How do I remove a server from the farm

$

We set up a second SharePoint 2013 server in our farm for Search but never installed the search or any other services on this server. We decided we do not require a search server in this farm and want to remove the server from the farm. I've been trying to find instructions on how to properly remove it and have not found anything really relevant to SharePoint 2013. Does anyone know where I can find instructions, or how I can do this properly.

I have multiple farms experiencing an Issue with individual Office WAC servers randomly crashing. No explanation in logs why this is occurring. Only affects the WAC servers which is odd. Anyone seen this before? OS version is 2012 Server fully up to date and patched. The blue screen error is 0xd1

Outlook calendar connection to sharepoint does not sync all items

$

Hi there I am having an interesting sharepoint problem that hopefully someone else has come across.

Environment: Outlook 2013, outlook 2016. Sharepoint 2013

problem: The sharepoint calendar and the sharepoint calendar connected to outlook show different results. Every day there are one or two (mostly recurring, or recurring exceptions) not shown on the outlook copy of the calendar.

When i delete and re-add the calendar to outlook, I get a send receive error as follows:

"Task 'sharepoint' reported error (0x80004005) : 'Failed to copy one or mote items. for details see the log file.'

However I dont know where this "log" is located. I looked in %temp%/outlook logging but there are no files in there.

When i enable debugging from the options menu in outlook, i get a different send receive error:

Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The SharePoint List (XXXXXXXXXXXXXX) cannot be found. If the problem continues, contact the SharePoint site administrator.  HTTP 404.'

But there are still no useful logs generated. Nothing to do with sharepoint and no error messages.

So i have two questions. Anyone ever seen this behaviour? I can find reference to a few things it might be, attachments on the list or weird characters. However the calendar items that are not copied (95% of them are) have no special characters and no attachments. They do seem to all be recurring events, however most of the items on the calendar are recurring events.

the second question is where is this mythical log file refereed to in the first screen shot error message? I think if i got access to that it might help me narrow down the problem.

This problem exists for everyone who tries to connect to this sharepoint calendar. They prefer using outlook because its quicker to update than sharepoint, but as the calendar is not copying everything, it cannot be trusted so they are forced to use the slower sharepoint route. yes they could use datasheet view or whatever however i would like them to stay in the calendar interface and just want to fix the outlook sync problem.

UPDATE: before posting this i tried to run the debugging mode again and got a new error screen:

and when i go look at that file, and click on the "errors" section i get:

For several pages.

Im going to go look up that error now as maybe it has more info. Any help appreciated.

Is there a way to make " focus on content " as default for all pages?

I am trying to remove the left navigation pane on my sharepoint site. Even if I am able to modify the master page and make the "DeltaPlaceHolderLeftNavBar" property as invisible, there is some extra space that appears on the left hand side of the page. However, when I click on the "focus on content" button, it seems to hide the left empty space and the page title. I would want to set this as the default view for my page. Is there a way to do this?

Two same logins with different ID...How to migrate.

Hello. I am working on very complicated migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013...The main problem is that they have trusted domains and the problem is that many users have login  domain1\user1 and also the same user has many times access the SharePoint from second domain domain2\user1 ...On new server will be new domain but with same name like domain2...So on new server the users can access the sharepoint only from domain3\user1 ....I have no problem to migrate domain1\user1 to domain3\user1 but the problem is with old domain2\user1 ....This is for me like a hell....I have tested everything and it is not possible to do this:

 domain1\user1 -> domain3\user1  - No problem
domaint2\user1 -> domain3\user1  - this never worked for me because when I use this scenario the everything what was mapped to domain1\user1 is not accessible for domain3\user1

If I make this

domain2\user1 -> domain3\user1  - No problem
domaint2\user1 -> domain3\user1  this never worked for me because when I use this scenario the everything what was mapped to domain2\user1 is not accessible for domain3\user1...

So I am not able to migrate two same users from two different domains from old server to new server and one user...

Hmm...What you think is this possible somehow... Thank you

Event ID 6309. UPA - An error occurred when creating a property

$

I had some new attributes created recently in AD and the only way I could get them to be available to add in "Manage User Properties" was to remove the Synchronisation Connection and recreate. Those attributes were then available so no problems there.

But, since then, one of the other custom attributes that had been added was no longer mapped.  I tried to recreate and get the error in the UI "An error occurred when creating a property" and in the Event Viewer, get 2x Event ID 3's and Event ID 6309 (see below).  I am able to delete the attribute and try again but still get the same.  I have a feeling that this attribute may have been changed in AD from a Single Value to a Multi Value so not sure if this has something to do with it?

In any event, how can I rectify this.  I did see a suggestion somewhere about deleting the UPA (andjust the Sync DB) and recreating?  Any help would be appreciated as without this mapping, it is affecting a number of our forms relying on this mapping through a web service.

Thanks!

Sharepoint 2013 - Excel Services - Intranet/Extranet Access

Hi,

I have some Excel Reports stored on Sharepoint 2013.

When I access them from Intranet, no problem I can open them in the browser.

When I access them from Extranet (Internet), I get the following error message after the Excel Services "logo"

"Could not open the workbook. The Workbook cannot be opened".

I can download the file without problem.

The only difference is from where I access them:

Intranet URL : http://intranet

Extranet URL: http://sharepoint.mydomain.com

Any clue where I should be looking at?

Thanks

Cannot check-in file of more than 50 MB

Hello TechNet SharePoint Community,

I am having an issue checking in mostly Excel files that exceed 50 MB. I am able to check out the file, but after editing when I try to check it out, I got this error:

"This document was checked out to your local draft folder but the local copy could not be checked in to the site. Close any application that is editing the document and try to check in again, or discard the checkout"  and there is not any application open when I am trying to check out the file.

*** We have increased the maximum upload files from 50 MB to 250 MB but this didn't work.

Some details about our farm:

 2 WFEs with SharePoint 2013 Enteprise (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1, Xeon E620 2.4 GHz, 24 GB RAM + 2 SQLs + 2 Search Index Servers ), 2015 CU

I will appreciate any help you can provide me on this.

Thank you

Hi All

We have deleted certain hashtags created for UAT purposes by testers and BSAs from the term store. However the hashtags still appear under 'trending tags' webpart in their respective mysites. Pls help advising what could be the cause. I have verified that search account has read access to term store. We are running a continuous crawl on search section.

Thanks very much in advance.

2 application pools use the same Search Service

$

After rebuilding my 2013 Search Service, I found in IIS on the CA server that there were 2 app pools that both referenced "SearchService", along with another pool that referenced "SearchAdmin".

How does this happen?

How can I get rid of one SearchService reference without messing up the other (assuming both entries point to the same service)?

Can't delete an apppool if there is an application assigned to it, and there is no point in moving the duplicate to a different app pool. The problem is that it is a duplicate reference.

Thanks in advance.

Version control for a whole list?

I'm managing several Sharepoint-List. Up to now, I did not find the way, how to set back a whole list to a previous version. Version Control for items in the list is enabled. I also know, how to set back a single item to a previous version. What I want to do, is setting back the whole list, which means every single item in the list will be set back to a previous version. How do I do that?

Thanks for your help!

My Site provisioning stops on OOTB feature activation

Hi,

We're suddenly experiencing an issue with My Site provisioning, which fails on activating an OOTB feature:

  • Feature Activation: Activating Feature 'ShareWithEveryone' (ID: '10f73b29-5779-46b3-85a8-4817a6e9a6c2') at URL http://my.contoso.com/personal/blabla.
  • Calling 'FeatureActivated' method of SPFeatureReceiver for Feature 'ShareWithEveryone' (ID: '10f73b29-5779-46b3-85a8-4817a6e9a6c2').
  • The security validation for this page is invalid. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again.
  • Feature Activation: Threw an exception, attempting to roll back.  Feature 'ShareWithEveryone' (ID: '10f73b29-5779-46b3-85a8-4817a6e9a6c2').
  • Failed to activate template-associated site-collection-scoped features for template 'SPSPERS#2' in site 'http://my.contoso.com/personal/blabla'.
  • Failed to activate site features when provisioning site at url "http://my.contoso.com/personal/blabla" with site definition "SPSPERS#2".
  • Failed to apply template "SPSPERS#2" to web at URL "http://my.contoso.com/personal/blabla", error The security validation for this page is invalid. Click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and try your operation again.

What I have so far tried to resolve this:

  • Verified all My Site settings (My Site Host location, managed path, self-service site creation, etc).
  • Recreate the My Site Host.
  • Recreate the My Site web application using the existing content database.
  • Recreate the My Site web application using a new content database.
  • Run the Configuration Wizard on all servers in the farm (to re-register features etc).

I have obviously deleted the user profile before running each test, to ensure a fresh My Site provisioning process.
Manually activating the "ShareWithEveryone" feature throws no exception.

Running SharePoint 2013 with August CU.

You gurus are my last resort. Thanks. :)

Monitoring Storage Usage

Hello together,

Does anyone of you knows, if it is possible to get an overview of all the storage which is used by the websites and website-collections in the SharePoint-Farm?

I know that I can get storage information in SharePoint Designer or in the Configurations – but with this way I have to select every website step by step.

What I’m meaning is an overview like
Intranet: 3000 MB
Marketing: 400 MB

Also good would be the same for databases, so that I could see, which databases are getting bigger disproportionately.
I have tried it with Report-Builder in a SharePoint-Document-library but didn’t find any way.

Thank you for your help!

Best Regards
Dennis

SharePoint 2013 Farm Backup.

$

I'm working with a client to perform a Full Farm Backup for their SharePoint Server.

When I go through the UI in Central Admin the  estimates estimated disk space required is 443.96 GB, after the Full Backup completes it's a total of 17.8 GB.

To me 17.8GB does not seem correct, I feel like it should be larger (One of their site collections alone is 166GB.)

Does anyone have any input what the backup would be so small for an estimated 443.96 GB?

Thanks

SP 2013 production,SSRS add-in for SQL Server 2008 R2 supported?

$

Experts,

I have a situation that our current production server is SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with SQL Server 2012 with SP1(not yet live). There is another SharePoint 2010 server box that runs datawarehouse reporting. My plan is to have the dataware house server connecting to SharePoint 2013 in a separate web application after setting up a SQL Server 2008 R2 add-in. That way there is nothing change from database end. My questions are:

1.Is this possible to have a sql server 2012 for one web application and for another reporting web app, can we connect to SQL Server 2008 R2?

2.SQL Server 2008 R2 add-in takes care of report data and display from sql server 2008 and web app still in sql server 2012 portal?

3. Should we migrate the SSRS reporting databases from sql server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 Reporting services? as in one of the MSDN link said, only supported scenario with Sp 2013 and SSRS is with SQL Server 2012 reporting services and no sql server 2008 reporting service? I s this true?

Any advise from you are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Does SharePoint Change Security on SQL Stored Procedures?

$

We created a SQL cluster to store our on premise SharePoint 2013 farm. A security scan was done on the SQL cluster prior to installing SharePoint. It found no issues regarding the extended stored procedures within SQL. After the SharePoint install and farm configuration another scan was run.  This found a number of the extended stored procedures had their security changed.  I would prefer not to say which ones for obvious reasons.  My first question is to get confirmation the SharePoint install and configuration caused the change.  My second question is will I break anything if I change it back?  Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.  Jim Mc Fadden

If-Modified-Since header not working on SharePoint Farm

$
0
0

Upon cache expiry, the content delivery network (CDN) will send a HTTP GET to the origin to check for any updates. We are experiencing an issue in our site wherein if we modify a file from the Origin Server, CDN wasn't able to get the updated version properly. Because our SharePoint farm is always returning 304 NOT MODIFIED, even if the IMS is older than the Last Modified Date. The correct response should be 200 OK.

These are the expected behaviors of CDN to the origin server:

a. If the IMS is equal to the Last Modified Date, farm should return 304 NOT Modified
b. If the IMS is older than the Last Modified Date, farm should return200 OK

As per initial investigation, this may be due to caching in SharePoint such as BlobCache, output cache. We also noticed that Etags and If-None-Match are generated and if we used this to compare if the files are modified instead of the IMS, it'll show the expected result. However, since the CDN uses If-Modified-Since header, we're still stuck on the same problem. Does anyone here successfully configured Content Delivery Network for SharePoint 2013?
