Last week our system admin install some patches on our SharePoint 2013 server. and seems one of the updates MS16-004 caused problems with our list view. and i read that installing this hot fix "KB 3114508 – Download location: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=50667" will/should fix this issue as mentioned on this link. so i install the hot fix , and the list views worked well. but as an additional step i run the product configuration wizard, while raised this exception :-

and our content data base became on "upgrading status" as follow, where i am unable to access our site collections' pages:-

now i restart the whole server and i run the product configuration wizard, and now for more than an hour i am still seeing this :--

so can anyone adivce how i can fix my database status ? and force the product configuration wizard to complete successfully ?

now i check the logs while the product configuration wizard is still running for more than 2 hours , and i find many sql server timeouts errors

We have built our new intranet using Office 365 (SharePoint Online). Need to perform the following administrative tasks on a regular basis,

1. Track adoption rate

2. Track who visited the site

3. Track logins (who, when, how many times per day)

4. Generate Reports

Are these features available in SharePoint Online? Do we need a third party tool.

I'm wondering if the Maximum number of terms in a term set applies for the folksonomy?

In general will that also apply for any term set under the System Group?

I also wonder, I see that the Maximum number of term sets in a term store is 1000 but what about the Site Collection term set, technically every site collection consuming that MMS will represent a term set and that can easily grow beyond the 1000 limit.

I'm trying to get Office Web App working in SharePoint. I've followed the instructions but it's like SharePoint doesn't recognize the change. There are no menu changes. Documents attempt to be opened in Office and not the browser.

I've got it setup for HTTP because we don't do SSL on our internal SharePoint.  I followed the instructions for http.

I turned on the "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default" on the site collection. (Not sure if I needed to do that.)

I've been waiting for a change to take effect.  So far nothing.

Is there a way to migrate data from one Sharepoint farm to another?

I have a limping SharePoint 2013 farm that barely works.  We've had numerous consultants working on this farm.  Some servers are incorrectly setup ie SQL installed on the application servers, application services running on every server and causing services to keep on crashing.  I figure it's probably better to start off fresh, build a new simple farm to start and migrate the data from the current farm to it.  Has anyone done this?  Any guidance would be appreciated.  Thank you.

on this Windows Server 2012 Standard server with local SQL Server 2012, SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard will not go beyond Step 3.

On Wizard: "Failed to connect to the configuration database" and 2 lines we can find in the log:

Hi there I am having an interesting sharepoint problem that hopefully someone else has come across.

Environment: Outlook 2013, outlook 2016. Sharepoint 2013

problem: The sharepoint calendar and the sharepoint calendar connected to outlook show different results. Every day there are one or two (mostly recurring, or recurring exceptions) not shown on the outlook copy of the calendar.

When i delete and re-add the calendar to outlook, I get a send receive error as follows:

"Task 'sharepoint' reported error (0x80004005) : 'Failed to copy one or mote items. for details see the log file.'

However I dont know where this "log" is located. I looked in %temp%/outlook logging but there are no files in there.

When i enable debugging from the options menu in outlook, i get a different send receive error:

Task 'SharePoint' reported error (0x8004010F) : 'The SharePoint List (XXXXXXXXXXXXXX) cannot be found. If the problem continues, contact the SharePoint site administrator.  HTTP 404.'

But there are still no useful logs generated. Nothing to do with sharepoint and no error messages.

So i have two questions. Anyone ever seen this behaviour? I can find reference to a few things it might be, attachments on the list or weird characters. However the calendar items that are not copied (95% of them are) have no special characters and no attachments. They do seem to all be recurring events, however most of the items on the calendar are recurring events.

the second question is where is this mythical log file refereed to in the first screen shot error message? I think if i got access to that it might help me narrow down the problem.

This problem exists for everyone who tries to connect to this sharepoint calendar. They prefer using outlook because its quicker to update than sharepoint, but as the calendar is not copying everything, it cannot be trusted so they are forced to use the slower sharepoint route. yes they could use datasheet view or whatever however i would like them to stay in the calendar interface and just want to fix the outlook sync problem.

UPDATE: before posting this i tried to run the debugging mode again and got a new error screen:

and when i go look at that file, and click on the "errors" section i get:

For several pages.

Im going to go look up that error now as maybe it has more info. Any help appreciated.

I’ll be completely frank. This kind of stuff is beyond me, and I’d hate to blow up the brand new SP server I’ve built (although I have taken backups & snapshots with each major action). Can someone assist by telling me in laymen terms  of how to do this?  Much appreciated. 

I have a new on premises SharePoint 2013 server and assigned a single user "view only" rights to a document library. In the "permission levels" window, this permission is described as "Can view pages, list items, and documents. Document types with server-side file handlers can be viewed in the browser but not downloaded."

Setting up Kerberos to support a "normal" SharePoint web application is pretty straightforward:

setspn -s HTTP/servername accountname

setspn -s HTTP/servername.domain.org accountname

But what about the SPNs needed for the SecurityTokenServiceApplication which is a subweb to SharePoint Web Services? The Web Services root application runs as localservice and thus cannot have an SPN assigned. But the individual subwebs below it can run under different accounts e.g. SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool running as the farm account, the SearchAdmin.svc (named as a GUID) running under a custom domain user account...

I can certainly do

SETSPN -s HTTP/servername:32843 domain\serviceuseraccount

but then what about the SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool running as the farm account? That is also hosted over the same port! If I use the same SETSPN account above but specify a different user, that is forbidden. It creates a "duplicate" SPN.

Help! What am I missing?

We will be using new service accounts for SharePoint and SQL Database for the new domain.

I have come in this morning and my Global Navigation is not working. This is connecting to the Managed Metadata Service. I've gone into CA and getting the below errors:-

The Managed Metadata Service or Connection is currently not available. The Application Pool or Managed Metadata Web Service may not have been started.  Please Contact your Administrator.

When I click on the Managed Metadata Proxy, I am getting the below:-

Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {BDEADF26-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F} failed due to the following error: 800703fa Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800703FA).

All Application Pools, Service etc all appear to be started.  I have scheduled an IISReset for out of business hours but hoping that somebody might know what could be causing this so I can resolve it beforehand?

We have already installed SharePoint foundation 2013 and all our projects has Target Framework as 4.5. Our customer wanted us to upgrade .NET Framework 4.5.2. So, I did the following to achieve upgrade

1) Download and Installed .NET Framework 4.5.2 Developer Pack from https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=42637

2) After installing above developer pack, the following has listed under "Programs and Features" in Control Panel

• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 Multi-Targeting Pack
• Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 Muliti-Targeting Pack (ENU)

3) Open Visual Studio 2013 and right click the project properties and found that .NET Framework 4.5.2 has listed under "Target Framework" dropdown for all the projects except SharePoint Projects.

4) For SharePoint Projects, .NET Framework 4.5.2 has not listed under "Target Framework" dropdown, instead it displays only.NET Framework 4.5

I just want to know why sharepoint project has not listed .NET Fralework 4.5.2when other projects has this option.

PS: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3087184 - I understand through this URL, sharepoint foundation 2013 will support .NET Framework 4.6 and .NET framework must be install on top of sharepoint 2013. Like the way, I ran .NET framework 4.5.2 on top of sharepoint foundation 2013.
