SharePoint Foundation Web Application service "missing"

Hi all,

I've got an unusual situation. I was getting an "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error when trying to create a web application which was a little concerning.

Although I've not got to the bottom of that yet I've discovered that the SharePoint Foundation Web Application service is "missing" when I go to the list of Services on Server in Central Admin. It's only a small farm (1 app and 1 web server) with the service running on the web server. 

It must actually be running because the existing SharePoint sites are running, but obviously something's not right.

Has anyone ever seen this happen before?

Word and Power Point documents not opening in preview

Hi All.

Word and Power Point documents are not opening for view in browser in my SharePoint 2013 FARM. OWA is configured as per the handover that I got I am supposed to have two servers but when I am running Get-OfficeWebAppsMachine on one node the health status is 'Un healthy ' on second I get error that server seems not to be part of OWA FARM. If I go to services on the server then the WAC is availabel and running. 

Any ideas and hint how I should trouble shoot this. Preview of Excel files is also showing error though if open for edit it is working fine.

Hello all,

I am working on a mysite site in SharePoint 2013. All configurations have been put in place and I can access the mysite site with no issue. However, when I try to add a new site in mysite I get the following message.

Error: Site creation cannot continue because of a configuration issue with the parent site

Has anyone seen this issue before? If so, how did you fix the issue?

OS: windows 2012 R2 Standard
Sharepoint 2013

Turning Auditing on for SharePoint 2013

Hello,

I'm facing issues turning the auditing on. I've turned in on but nothing comes up in the Audit reports. I've done the following so far:

1. Turned the auditing on content level and site collection level for everything at the minute

2. Turned the Reporting feature on

3.  Set "Optionally, specify the number of days of audit log data to retain: " to 1

4. Created a document library and set the "Optionally, specify a location to store audit reports before trimming the audit log: "

 to the document library

But when I access that document library I can't see anything in there.

Any suggestions?

SharePoint 2013 - Issue with Apps

Hi All,

I have just encountered a very frustrating issue;

As random as it could possibly happen, this morning all of our installed SharePoint Store apps have broken.

They still display correctly through their web\app parts, but the moment the header is clicked, we receive the following error;

Sorry, something went wrong

Accessing referenced file https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/_catalogs/masterpage/**MasterPage.master from https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/ImportantMessages/Pages/Default.aspx?SPHostUrl=https://intranet.**.com.au&SPLanguage=en-AU&SPClientTag=14&SPProductNumber=15.0.4420.1017&SPAppWebUrl=https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/ImportantMessages is not allowed because the reference is outside of the App Web.

Entries in the ULS Logs say much the same;

Application error when access /ImportantMessages/Pages/Default.aspx, Error=Accessing referenced file https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/_catalogs/masterpage/**MasterPage.master from https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/ImportantMessages/Pages/Default.aspx?SPHostUrl=https://intranet.**.com.au&SPLanguage=en-AU&SPClientTag=14&SPProductNumber=15.0.4420.1017&SPAppWebUrl=https://app-25d238edb9176b.**.com/ImportantMessages is not allowed because the reference is outside of the App Web.

I have done the following in an attempt to correct the issue;

  • Re-read through the steps on configuring the app domain
  • Reinstalled the Apps
  • Ran an IISReset

Any help would be much appreciated.

SharePoint 2013 Reporting Service Application in SQL High Availability mode

Hi,

We have a SharePoint farm which has two database servers with SQL High Availability AlwaysOn group. Farm has two WFE and two App servers as well. 

We have several service applications including Reporting Services Application.

When the farm was provisioned initially, Reporting Serivice DB wasn't added to SQL HA AlwaysOn group. Therefore when a SQL Fail-over happens all reports are not working. 

We've added the Reporting Service Application DB shown in the Central Admin to the SQL HA AlwaysOn group, but the problem still persists. 

Is what I'm doing make sense? Or are there additional steps / databases needs to be considering when making the Reporting Service Application related DBs in SQL HA Always group?

Scrolling in a List

Apologies in advance if this is a silly question, but I recently switched companies and my new place has SP 2013. I have been able to figure out most of the differences, but one that is bugging me is scrolling in a list.

I am working in a list of 1600 lines and updating data. When I try to drag a change down the list it will only allow me to drag until the end of the screen, and then I have to scroll the wheel on my mouse while holding down the right mouse button. I am able to drag like normal in Excel, so I was wondering if this is an issue with SP 2013, and if so, how do I fix it.

User continues to get removed from SharePoint Group?

Hey SharePoint Fam,

I have a weird issue that has been going on for almost 6 months now and I am not sure where to check to see what is happening.  I have a user that I have assigned to two SharePoint groups which contains several other folks, almost once every 2 weeks he is removed from both groups and I have to add him back each time.  No other user is removed from any group at all.  Any ideas or thing I can check to see why this specific user is removed from SharePoint groups every couple weeks?

Question about Recycling Bins in SharePoint 2013

I'm fairly new to SharePoint 2013, I just need some clarification on a certain topic. So when a user deletes an item it goes to the recycling bin, and in this recycling bin it only shows what that user deleted correct? Now how does the quota that automatically empties the recycling bin go by amount of data that is stored in the bin, or does it go by how old it is? So if the recycling bin is emptied via user or hits the quota it goes to a second recycling bin that only the administrator can view correct? This second recycling bin does not have a quota, so how much will it keep, should there be a quota on this secondary bin? If there is a quota and it deletes from the second bin how do I go about retrieving a single document? Every night I back up using what is in the picture, but I was reading that you cant restore  a single document without having to roll back the entire site to the day that contains the file. I'm not sure if this is correct, ANY clarification is greatly appreciated!

Searching on http://Inranet gives search results pointing to http://MachineName/filename

Hi there

When I search on my SharePoint site from the URL http://Inranet
- I get some search results pointing to http://MachineName/filename 

How to fix please? I will expect the serch URLs to always point whatever URL was used to load the site.

People/Group column in Datasheet View with ADFS Authentication.

Greetings,

We use ADFS & NTLM Authentication on our web application, but NTLM is only used to allow search to crawl the farm.  So all users login and use their ADFS account when accessing the farm.  When users are editing a list in Quick Edit/Datasheet view when they try to edit a People/Group column they get "The user does not exist or is not unique." unless they enter in the full claim. e.g. "i:e0.t|adfs|test@domain.com".  The user will then resolve properly.

Has anyone else run across this or know how to solve this problem?

Picture Sync Erroring on FIM

So I have finally gotten my UPS set up, now my picture sync is causing problems.  I have the mapping set up for the thumbnailPhoto in the UPSA.  When i do the full sync, FIM comes back with a bunch of "stopped-extension-dll-exceptions".  In the Synch Errors section, it lists all the Photo MVID's and lists them as Binary.  In the Mapping in UPSA I cant set the Picture type to Binary, it has to be URL. 

Any ideas?

Display Quota Available on for each site collection.

Hi All,

I have a business requirement where management wants to display site banner along with Quota available for that site collection. There are some minor customization on home page as well. Management wants to make this least available efforts.     

For e.g. Contoso Home   (50% available of 100 GB). 

To achieve this, I am make planning as follows:

  • Custom master page as a feature.
  • Write custom code for quota calculations using object model.
    • Will visual web part be helpful in this?
  • Display the Quota on the home page.

Please advise what other techniques can I use to achieve this?

Hi All

I Want to Configure Sharepoint  2013 Froms-base Authentication.I created Web Application and Sql database.

but in iis7 when I want to change web.config file through iis ,I can’t see providers feature in asp.net group.providers feature is missing on my site.I don’t want to  pasting the information of RoleManager Providers and Membership Providers in the web.config file.

.Net Framwork  in application pool of my site is V4.0

help me to find providers on iis7 in FBA web site

Does SP2013 Standard Volume license okay to build extranet portal?

My client has SP2013 Standard volume licensing  and started simple intranet site.  Now client would want to build extranet for their customers. So I am trying to evaluate licensing needs.  So as per my understanding SP2013 standard would required to build external portal and CAL/ user to build intranet.  What is the license cost for

1000 internal users and 500 external users.  ( approximately 1000 Internal users are for intranet site and approximately 500 users are for extranet site.  Intranet site is different from extranet site. These two are not same in case either functionality or access wise.) So what is the required license for this and what is the approximate cost .

Website publishing problems

I rebuilt my current website in SharePoint using The Berlin template. There is minimal html coding I did, mostly just to change colors and to get the logo and company name into the right alignment. It all looks good in Edit mode and in preview mode.

The problem comes when I publish the website. It ignores my coding for placement and color and spacing between the banner and body. The font (verdana) isn't spaced correctly and looks pixelated.

Does anyone have any ideas what is wrong? I have spent hours/days on this and don't want to dump it now and rebuild again.

Several months ago I posted a question on the AppFabric Caching forum about the various Distributed Cache symptoms I was seeing in my SharePoint 2013 farms. That forum was retired before I could post the ultimate answer to my problem (which we got by opening a support case with Microsoft's SharePoint Admin team). I thought I’d post it here for others who might be seeing the same symptoms.

Hi,

We have SharePoint 2013 on which we have multilingual site in English and Arabic both with https configuration. We have created discussion board and added discussion board on the page. This page is accessible to anonymous user. When we open the page with windows user it is working fine. But when we open the page with anonymous user and click on unanswered question tab the text will get hidden and below error come in developer tool bar.
