Hi,

I have a document library and i want to disable inheritance which i have done via library settings. Now what i want is whenever anyone creates a folder in this document library this folder should not inherit permissions from document library. This can have permissions only to creator and no one else. Can this be done ?

Thanks, Rishi Pandit.

Subsite can't open documents in browser

I have a 12 server SharePoint 2013 farm and a 2 server Office Web Apps farm. Office web apps is working on all web apps, site collections, and subsites except one.  On that site collection we get errors when attempting to open excel and word documents in the browser.  They open in the client application fine.  Excel documents give me Server Error in '/x' Application and word documents return an error stating Soffy, there was a problem and we can't open this document. Looking in the event viewer for the WAC servers I see an error "Could not contact WOPI End Point.  Error details - FileNotFound url with a long URL.  I've verified that all points can access the WAC servers through the /discovery/hosting test url both inside and outside of the SharePoint farm.  What should I be looking for?

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible.(provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Hi,

We are seeing this error is being logged into our Sharepoint Front End for every request being made in the browser.

Issue: We are seeing Sharepoint  performance issues. Pages are loading very slow. We have engaged Network, Load balancing, Server team and everything is working as expected. The only issue we are left with is error message being logged into each Front end server.

1. We are using Named instance

2. Named Pipes and TCP/IP Protocol is enabled

3. Custom Port is used and it is not 1433

4. 64-bit with 32 GB Memory

5. SQL Server 2008 R2 and remote connections are allowed

6. SQL Team confirmed there is no blocks, deadlocks

7. Firewall is not enabled in the server

8. SQL browser service is running

9. Tracert, Ping and Telnet to SQL Server with port from the Web server is successful

I have gone through the post and verified all steps:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sql_protocols/archive/2007/05/13/sql-network-interfaces-error-26-error-locating-server-instance-specified.aspx

Please share your thoughts on this issue.

SharePoint Layout and Front End Servers Issue

Hello all,

I have started rolling out SharePoint in my Organization. I currently have 2 Front End Web Servers, 1 App Server and a SQL Server.

I have a couple of questions.

I do not have SharePoint Running on my SQL server, do I need that installed on that machine?

I have ran into a problem,

First of all, I am using the Network Load balancing product provided by Microsoft.

First Front End Server IP is .51, and the second is .52, and my virtual is .50

I have a DNS entry of sharepoint.contoso.com pointed to .50

I created a Web Application named http://sharepoint.contoso.com/

I created a test team site under sharepoint.contoso.com/sites/test_team

When I go to that page I get 404, File or directory not found.

Services Showing Started but Not Started

Hello All!

When looking at the Central Admin, I drilled down into the services and found that the Central Admin seems think that my Distributed Cache is either starting or Started, but when I look at the services I have Disabled for my App Server and Started for my two front end servers. Kind of weird.

Any Ideas?

Hi there,

I am running a test for migrating our SP 2010 to SP 2013.

SP 2013 upgrade fails if I backup SP 2010 data with site in read-only mode -

but works if site is NOT in readonly mode.

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much.

Access Services 2013

I cannot get Access Services to work to save my life. I followed this websitehttp://www.sundownsolutions.co.uk/blog/default.aspx?ID=37(which is pretty much a clone of the MS White paper) SOAP service is running, permissions are showing correctly. Everything is successful until I try to create the App with Access, then I get a correlation ID error. The ULS logs show this (see below) which isn't helping me too much either. Any ideas?

August 2015 CU - List attachments give "File names can't contain the following characters:" message

After installing the August 2015 CU's, all sites in all web applications in the farm running on the SharePoint 2013 user interface have the following issue:

Any type of list with attachments allowed > Add or edit list item > Add attachment (in ribbon) > Successfully browse and select any file to attach > Click OK to add the attachment to the list item

A pop up stating “File names can’t contain the following characters:  & “ ? < > # {} % ~ ?/\.” is displayed.

These same steps work correctly in the same farm for sites using the SharePoint 2010 interface - this only seems to affect 2013 sites.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Access Denied and Summary Links

Hello Everyone,

We have just noticed that some of our users cannot edit any page with a Summary Links Web Part.

For example,

A user has Owner permissions on the site.  If a Summary Links Web Part is on the site they cannot edit the page.  They get the Access Denied message.  If the Summary Links Web Part is not on the page they can edit the page.

If the user with Owner permissions attempts to add a Summary Links Web Part to the page they also receive an Access Denied message.

Site Collection and Farm Admins can edit the page no matter what.

Can anyone tell me what I can look at to find a solution?  This was working at one time, but no one is aware of any changes that were made.

Thanks for any information,

Ian...

Share Functionality Not Proper on Office Web Apps

Hi,

We have the below folder hierarchy

Folder1->subfolder1-file1

Now document library has been added as an app on one of the page.

Now after opening the file1 through Office Web Apps.

I am clicking on Share option which is on the top.

It is redirecting to AllItems.aspx with dialog box to enter the username.

But as per the expectation it has to redirect to the subfolder1 where file1 resides.

Please let me know to correct any settings for the same.

Hi

I need to migrate file server contents (basically it contains documents) to my SharePoint 2013 Document libraries. The size of the file server is 100 GB. Would that File explorer option is suitable to perform this operation? I have advised not to use any third party tools as we have restrictions on that.

Kindly advise

Hi,

a costumer would like to know how many Standard and Enterprise CALs he has in use (should plan in the future). For example he has a site, which is activated with Performance Point and 10 Users are authorised to display this page. On another site there are only standard features activated.

Is there any solution to count user for standard and enterprise usage?

Thanks

I recently updated security patch for SharePoint KB3054858 (MS15-081: Security update for Word Automation Services on SharePoint Server 2013: August 11, 2015)

Now I cannot follow or unfollow documents or site using the default Follow button.

Every user gets an error message "Something went wrong"
Sorry, we couldn't follow the document.

Technical Details
Unexpected response from server. The status code of response is '400'. The status text of response is 'Bad Request'.

I try the usual things and ensured that the AppPool Account has all required permissions on the database. But as this function worked right before installation of the Security patch I digged deeper into the ULS logs and found the following message:

In dead the KB mentions that there are updated version of UserProfile.dll and js in this package. But what the hack...

Search, UPS, MySites ... are working fine.
Current SP version is 15.0.4737.1000 (July 2015)

I have the same issues on 4 different farm I manage (dev, test, prod).

Is there any help or has anyone else seen this problem (and hopefully has a solution for me?)

Thanks a lot.

Dear All,

We have a client where they have SP 2013 and OWA installed and configured. In their SP portal homepage, we have some OWA webparts INBOX, tasks, calendar and once the user clicks on it, it again asks for username and password to sign in OWA.

Client don't want to happen this, and once they click INBOX , it has to directly open their INBOX

Please let me know how to achieve this.

THanks in advance

Restricting Scope of people picker to only the Site Collection level

Dear All,

We have a SharePoint farm where there are are internal as well as external users added. Now as per the current situation, an external user can find any internal user using People picker. This might pose a security concern. Can we restrict the results from people picker to only show users added to that particular Site Collection?

I found this article which is "applicable to" Office SharePoint Server 2007". Is there a powershell command for shrepoint 2013 as well or will this stsadm command hold good for SharePoint 2013 ?

Disconnecting from farm and re-join results in an "Error during decryption. Ensure the passphrase is correct."

I was troubleshooting an issue and removed an app tier server (not the central administration service server). I went to re-add the server to the farm and it resulted in an error message. Below is some verbose output from me manually running the connect-spconfigurationdatabase operation on the server. I attempted to reset the passphrase on the farm just to make sure it was correct but it didn't work either. This fails the same way in the Wizard and the PowerShell command connect-spconfigurationdatabase.

Sharepoint 2013 - Remove "Recent" from left menu

Hello All -

My client has requested that she be able to remove (or hide) the "Recent" menu header from the left menu in Sharepoint 2013. This is for specified site collections/sites/pages, not farm-wide.

So far, I've tried to do this via JQuery by adding the following code

<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
 jQuery(".ms-core-listMenu-item:contains('Recent')").parent().hide();
});
</script>

via both a script web-part and via a content editor web-part (using embed code), but to no avail. I've also tried adding the code above to a .js file (without the script tags) and calling it as

<script type="text/javascript" src="/_layouts/15/menu.remove.recent.js"></script>

instead, but it still doesn't work.

I've checked the page source and I can see the script is included. The "Recent" menu item however, is still there. My prefered solution would be to hide the menu item rather than remove it - I suspect removing it will probably cause issues as Sharepoint likely expects it to be there.

There's no requirement to use JQuery - it just seemed to me to be the best way. I would also rather not edit master pages unless there's no other choice.

Any ideas?
