sharepoint 2016 and office 365 5k list threshold limit

I read somewhere that in sharepoint 2016 and office 365 5k list threshold limit will be removed. Is this done for sp2016?

This creates lots of issues in storing data more than 5k in lists with careful planning of views filters etc...

"Add new pages to navigation automatically" not working in SharePoint 2013

$

I set the Global Navigation to use "Managed Navigation using term set".  In the Navigation setting page this is "Add new pages to navigation automatically" I checked box.  (Specify the default setting for new pages created in sites using Managed Navigation)

But when I created a new page, the page title is not created in the term store as a new term.   I understand when a new term is created in the term set I can link it to a page, if the page already created.  I thought if the above check box is checked it means when a new page is created the corresponding named term will be created in the term set that is used for navigation.

Can some one tell me what is the correct behaviour for this feature?

SSO options for SharePoint 2013

Greetz!

We are using a claims based SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with a single web app and multiple host named site collectoins with their own URL. We have customer logging in from all over the country to a particular URL. Each time an employee in our company navigates to a new URL in our farm they are prompted to login again. An employee might be responsible for 3 or 4 different sites. What are our options for getting rid of this behavior and having a single sign on experience? My original thought was to use ADFS but my boss shot it down. Are there other , perhaps less clean ways to accomplish this?

Thanks!

Changing SharePoint content db name

$

Hi,

Just wanted to check options here. We are migrating servers and it is a possibility that the content database name will be different for the new server. If I were to run the config wizard on the SharePoint front end server and insert the new content db name, does this change automatically propagate to service applications that have the content db name like the search service for example? Or do I have to manually re-create these service applications?

thanks,

Adding Access Services Database/Adding Access Apps

$

Hey friends on Microsoft forums,

I've been trying to set up a Sharepoint Trial on Microsoft Azure for a few weeks now, and have been having problems with Access Apps.  I read this whitepaper: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/JJ714714.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 and got all the way until the bit where I'm supposed to "Set a new application database server" and now I'm getting an error when I try to do that.  I fill in the server name in "Add a new database" for Access Services and it says something like "Error Sequence contains more than one matching element".  I get that that means that the database is returning two or more records for something where it should only return one, but I have no idea for what.  I looked at the correlation logs (I can post later, I shut down the server today) and I can see that it's checking if I have securityadmin (I do) and then it sort of fails.

Any help would be appreciated with that subject, and on another note I tried adding an access app anyways just to see what would happen, and it sort of worked but I can't get it through the domain.  So I'm not sure how I'm supposed to configure the domain, because all the servers are basically under the "contoso" domain via Microsoft, but when I configure my app url domain (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161236%28office.15%29.aspx) I use contoso and it messes things up.  So the app created (with a database error, because of above) but if I click it, I'm redirected to apps.contoso.com, which I obviously don't own.  I tried doing app url configuration in SP to apps.(sp name).cloudapp.net, but "server could not be found."

Help on either would be greatly appreciated, doesn't have to be immediate, have a great weekend everyone!

SharePoint 2013 and a stretched farm scenario for a disaster recovery questions

$

Hi

I am in a process of designing the SharePoint 2013 farms and considering high availability and disaster recovery model, using both data center and the office servers together.

Client decided to go with a streamlined topologies and have chosen Denver data center to have the SP 2013 farm. Farm consists of 2 WFEs Network load balanced and a single DB Server with a strong hardware setup. I believe based on our SP 2010 usage and number of users  less than 750, this is fine.

For the Failover scenarios, we have one VM setup for WFE and one DB server(physical) with the same production db configuration via mirroring. I believe log shipping approach we are taking.

Now here are 2 scenarios:

  1. Data Center Database fail:

When primary DB failed, we want to switch to mirrored database (we don’t have budget for witness server, so automatic is not an option) with minimal or no downtime. I worked with networkadmin and its less than 1ms latency and 1GBPS bandwidth. So switching from primary to mirror manually is very minimal downtime.

  1. When whole datacenter is down:

Need to redirect requests to the office VM(WFE backup server) and switch mirror Database.

My thought to consider the stretched farm scenario, so the 3rd VM(WFE) will be part of the Network load balancing servers. If Data center is down, automatically all requests route to only 3rd VM(wfe). We just have to switch the mirror db server, their by having minimal downtime.

The distance between data denver Datacenter and my office Servers(either Chicago or San Francisco) is more than 1000 miles.

My questions are:

  • By including my office VM in a NLB setup leads to any performance issue on a everyday requests or is it fine as long as the latency is less than 1ms?
  • If I go with a automatic switch from primary db to mirror db, witness server is must or is there any other script/timer approach we can switch?
  • Considering all these details, what other best practice approach you would recommend?

Many thanks

August and July Updates were installed on my farm (two servers App and Web) as part of regular windows patches cycle.

I was not able to open web applications and  service application page. Error was:

Method 'Upgrade' in type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.WorkflowServiceApplicationProxy' from assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not have an implementation.

I installed Service Pack 1. After running wizard App server had an error (failed to upgrade product), Web server no errors.

After SP1 instalation, I was able to open my web applications and service application. All functionality work except lunching workflows from lists.

I am getting errors

Sharepoint 2013 Customize/repair outgoing e-mail content for Personal Sites

$

We have upgraded our Personal Site collection from 2010 to 2013 and the preliminary users in the new farm receive e-mails from the system suggesting people to connect with.  The problem is links in the emails are broken and I would like to know how to go about repairing them.

The e-mails come from 'personalsite@domain.com' sent by the My Site Host.

Subject: We found some suggestions for you on SharePoint

You may know

    User 2

If you don't want to see emails like this, you can change your email settings.

Learn about opting out of suggestions and related topics in the Manage the information you share through your My Site article.

The links above are incorrect.  "Email settings" doesn't include a protocol or server, and the "Manage the information" link points to the central admin server help file, and that doesn't find any help using the article keywords specified so I get the message "We don't have anything in particular to recommend for what you're doing, but feel free to look around!".  Other users can't get to the central admin server so they just get a broken link.

Has anyone else faced this?  Thank you for your insight.

when try to use picker on the administration web application.

Also on a site in the web application when trying to open the web page on UMLS appear:

Requested registry access is not allowed - User Profile Service Application

Hello,

Just installed a new SharePoint 2013 farm.

No errors during powershell deployment.  The user profile service application was configured without any errors as well.

When trying to access the User Profile Service Application through the Central Admin and selecting Manage I get 'something went wrong' error.

When looking up the splogevent using the correlation ID I get the message below.  Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks,

DOCAVE for Sharepoint 2013 - Procedures - Best Practice

Dear All,

We are going to deploy DocAve Backup and Restore solution for Microsoft SharePoint as Backup software, our infrastructure description a single domain, single site and single SharePoint farm contains the following:

2 front-end Servers (Hyper-V VM) – software load balanced

2 Application servers (Hyper-V VM)

2 SQL instances– Active-Active cluster

I don’t know this point will help or not but we have (TSM) Tivoli Storage Manager which is responsible for backing up the SQL servers and other servers.

It’s my first time to deal with DocAve, so if there is any advice, procedures, suggestions, concerns or best practices for deploying, implementing and managing DocAve with the SharePoint farm I will be so glad to share it with me.

How to find List name from List internal name

Hi

I have SharePoint 2013 farm.  I got an error when saving a Site Collection as site template.  The error indicates a missing List on the site.  I traced the correlation ID in ULS and found the error on the missing List but the error only listed out the List internal name as below:

List does not exist
ListInternalName={6E2A5D6E-E881-4C5B-A563-E0FDB3352435}

I searched for ways to converse the ListInternalName to List name but none successful so far.

If anyone have found way to get list name from its Internal Name,  please share.

Thanks in advance for any advise / suggestion.

SharePoint Hybrid Load Balancer/Reverse Proxy

Current SP farm has Load Balancer for WFE's and also SharePoint site exposed to Internet using TMG.

Now we want to Implement SharePoint Hybrid. if we want to implement InBound topology TechNet says that we need to implement ReverseProxy.

Questions:

  1. Is ReverseProxy and LoadBalancer are same? If we have already LoadBalancer then Do we need to setup another Reverse Proxy?
  2. Is ReverseProxy and existing proxy that we setup for enabling Internet Access are same? If we have already Proxy then Do we need to setup another Reverse Proxy?

duplicated WSS_Content database type "MetadataWebService" has error from Database status: database is too old upgrade required

After cu upgrade and configuration wizard run, the Database status shows:

Database          Type                                       Status

WSS_Content   MetadataWebServiceDatabase   Database is too old and upgrade is required

ManagedMetaData   MetadataWebServiceDatabase   No action required

it seems that there is already a database for MetadataWebServiceDatabase type and that is fine.   The WSS_Content is used for "Content database" type already, but it also used for MetadataWebServiceDatabase type, that really should not be there (it could be that I setup Managed Metadata service initially using WSS_Content database but then re-set that to use dedicated db.

Is there a way to get rig of that MetadataWebServiceDatabase type associated with WSS_Content?

Issue with SharePoint 2013, Office Web Apps 2013 and redirected URLs

OK, I give up on trying to figure out what to search for in Bing!

I have a SharePoint 2013 farm that has been connected to an Office Web Apps server and working just fine.  We are going to be changing the hostname for the primary web application, so I extended the web application to the Intranet zone with the new host name.  Both are HTTPS only.  After set up was completed and the F5 load balancer correctly configured, you could go to webapp1.foo.com or webapp2 (using the short name on the Intranet zone) and everything worked fine.  The preview pane loads Office documents and you can open office documents in the approprate Office Web App.

In our qual environment, I then implemented a redirect from webapp1.foo.com to webapp2 using URL Rewrite.  This places a redirect rule in the applicationHost.config file, which you have then manually add a couple of things to, but after that the redirect was working fine; except that Office Web Apps no longer works.  There are a variety of error messages, depending on the type of document you are trying to preview/load:

  1. Unable to Open the File.  We couldn't find the file you wanted.  It's possible the file was renamed, moved or deleted;
  2. Sorry, we are having a problem showing this workbook.  Something is preventing us from opening the workbook.  It might be blocked for security reasons;
  3. Microsoft Word Web App.  Sorry, there was a problem and we can't open this document.  If this happens again, try opening the document in Microsoft Word;

ULS logs on both SharePoint and OWA aren't showing anything particularly useful, nor is the Event Viewer.  The issues I'm seeing are similar to ones others have reported, but I've gone through the potential fixes and nothing works.  Again, it works fine so long as the redirect isn't there, but if the redirect is active, I have issues whether or not I start with the webapp1.foo.com and get redirected or start with webapp2, which theoretically shouldn't trigger the redirect at all.  BTW, I also tried using just the HTTP Redirect.

Server OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 for all servers.  I'm just at a loss on what to try next. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
