Hi All,

There is a business requirement where developers are creating a creating common custom CSS, jQuery and JavaScript that has to be deployed to the 15 hive and these CSS, JavaScript will be referenced by all the web applications.

  1. Which is best way to deploy these custom files on to SharePoint 2013 environment? Does copy these filesmanually to application and web server right approach?
  2. Does providingfarm scope in Visual Studio 2013, using SharePoint Mapped Folders and deploy these files can be used?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Import Excel Workbook Fails with an Unexpected Error

Hi

I had a user request to import file in a new list on an on premise SharePoint 2013 farm that has May 2015 CU applied.

Should be a couple of mouse clicks for the this tactical request

Things I have tried

  •  save file as .csv
  • search and replaced %20 in any of the urls in the file
  • Tried  the import in SPD
  • checked that IE has my web app in the trusted sites
  • Turned on permissive mode at the web app level  ( NO IISRESET as Live )
  • Shouted at the screen ;-)

Tried an excellent codeplex tool : SP-Importer ( there is a link to the office 365 / SP 2013 version) ... Unfortunately this crashes too which makes me think environment ....  Anybody seen this issue.  I seem to remember coding up a import with PS script for another client but I would be nice to get to the bottom of this.

Dedicated Distributed Cache Server and ports issue

$

Hi All,

We are in process of setting up a dedicated distrusted search server.

While we passed the ports (22233-22236) to network team that are required by distributed cache server. We have already set up SharePoint and configured so it's connected to farm. In turned on Distributed cache service both via Powershell as well as in Central Administration UI. We received "A failure occurred in SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance::Provision. cacheHostInfo is null for host ‘DCServer’ "error in PowerShell and in Central Administration UI it it showedError Starting. We have already conveyed this to network issue and they mentioned it's an application issue and not port issue

1. Is it really a port issue as this new DC server is not able to netstat the ports  (22233-22236). Here is the SharePoint ULS Logs on Distributed Cache Server

05/17/2015 15:43:46.40	OWSTIMER.EXE (0x043C)	0x0B64	SharePoint Foundation	DistributedCache	af6fq	Unexpected	A failure occurred in SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance::Provision. cacheHostInfo is null for host 'DCServer'.	1030079d-4c0e-20ef-7652-61fdc639746b

Re-run the action via UI or command line on the specified server. Additional information is below. cacheHostInfo is null	1030079d-4c0e-20ef-7652-61fdc639746b
05/17/2015 15:43:46.40	OWSTIMER.EXE (0x043C)	0x0B64	SharePoint Foundation	Timer	3899	Critical	Error executing service instance (un)provisioning job. Service instance: "Distributed Cache" (id "7f6951dc-7bbc-4cc3-8c28-0131a8db6b0b) "cacheHostInfo is null""	1030079d-4c0e-20ef-7652-61fdc639746b

We referred tothis URL http://www.ericjochens.com/2014/02/sharepoint-2013-distributed-cache-issues.html and author mentions that 1st issue is port and if its ports are not opened, distributed cache server may not function correctly?

2. We have 1 Application server, and 4 web front end servers. We have removed the Distributed Cache instance across servers as we have dedicated distriubuted cache server.
Will this dedicated cache server can manage all WEFs and Application server for all social workloads? How can verify if it's new service is working for all servers?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Error while editing properties via excel

Hi,

I have encountered an issue while trying to edit properties of excel files. Here what is happening:-

I upload an excel file to the doc library; it is in Checked out mode. Now I click on the file I get this pop-up which is not of my concern

When I click Ok, I get  to the excel and get an option to edit properties

It is now when I click on the Edit properties button I get this error:

If I click cancel, I get the the edit properties bar with a "people or group" type column shown in red-dotted line.

Filling it doesn't show this error again.

Does anyone know why am I getting this list.asmx web service error. One point to mention, this is happening in one library, and not in other.

SharePoint 2013 Content Database Upgrade hangs on 4.22%

Hi,

I am currently in the process of upgrading my SharePoint 2010 environment by using the Database attach method.

Everything has been going fine until I have come to attach and upgrade my largest content database which is 125gig. I have attached four other databases with no problems at all and they have upgraded and are available in my 2013 environment.

When I run the following command in SharePoint management shell - "Mount-SPContentDatabase-Name DatabaseName -DatabaseServer ServerName-WebApplication URL"

It shows as 4.22% : SPContentDatabase Name - <Name of Database>

This then hangs and does not complete. I have left it for a full 24 hours and it did not complete. I did read somewhere due to the size of the transaction files whilst the update is taking place needs at least three times the space of the database which the disk does have.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks,

Jord

SQL error: Failed to open the explicitly specified database

Recently our SQL server harddisk is almost full. I cannot perform any update action in SharePoint. So I remote in the SharePoint server and use PowerShell to delete some site collection and then their corresponding content databases. The content database is disappeared in the CA and I thought it is good.

However, our DBA told me the database still exist in SQL server in single user mode. I guess the deletion have only processed in half due to the insufficient harddisk.

Also, below log keep coming up at SQL server: Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\FarmAdmin'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database.

The SQL server harddisk is in good siutation now but the log keep coming. What should I do?

Approach on Subsite Migration at a time

$

Hi All,

We are doing migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 where in we have one bloated site collection with lot of subsites and this site collection is hosted in one content db and this content db has crossed the persmissible limit and is currently around 500 Gigs, over here our approach is to migrate one subite at a time instead of taking a big bang approach where in we would take one subsite and promote it as one top level site collection hosted in a different content DB.

Now the question is what is best appraoch, do we do use export/import method which is out of box but it comes with limiations where certain important data can be lost and hence we were thinking of taking an approach to take the backup of this parent content db, delete all the subsites that are not required and keep one subsite which you want to migrate, take a backup & restore it.
(Anybody has any previous experience with this approach and could share some details/learnings on it, it would be gr8)

Now, one more thing that comes to mind is what approach do we take to make that one subsite readonly in SP 2010 prod environment while we are migrating in our QA environment, so that once we are done with the migration for this particular subsite we release it with a new URL ... and we this is a tricky part how we do set a Subsite readonly which needs to taken care for every artifacts within that subsite and what should be the roll back approach in case there's a delay with our migration activity for this particular subsite (Will really appreciate if you could share some thoughts on this any idea how we could handle this efficiently)

Thanks ...

Changing User Name on SharePoint List

$

Here is the scenario that I'm in.  UserA uploads a document to a SharePoint 2013 site list. All permissions on SharePoint are using AD groups which this user is a member of.  UserA changes last name, so I change this user account in AD.

When looking at the original document uploaded, the name is showing the old name.  If I click on the name I get this:

http://servername/my/Person.aspx?accountname=with a bunch of gibberish for the rest of the url and the error message:

Not Found - HTTP Error 404. The requested resource is not found

If I edit the item and remove the user it lets me and when I try to add the user using the new name which it resolves successfully I'm able to save my changes, but the name displayed stays the same.

Any ideas on why this is happening? and/or how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated...thanks.

Can't open IRM protected document in office applications and office web apps

$

I'm using SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with Office Web Apps 2013 and Information Rights Management Configured. (All of our servers are on-prem including the ADRMS)

I have two universal distribution groups that I have users assigned to.

SharePoint-RMSReadOnly
SharePoint-RMSEdit

I am unable to open IRM protected documents from sharepoint in Office Web Apps or the associated Office Applications.

When I open the document in Office Web Apps I get the following error

Sorry, Word Web App can't open this document because it's protected by Information Rights Management (IRM). To view this document please open it in Microsoft Word.

When click "Open in Word" I'm prompted for my domain credentials. I enter my credentials and receive this error/prompt.

This content could not be accessed using your current credentials do you want to use your microsoft account to access this content?

The Permissions on the document I'm testing with I have the Read Only distro group in the Read Only section and the Edit distro group in the Edit section.

I've tried using accounts from both groups to access the document, but receive the same errors on both. I've also read that you should be able to access IRM documents through Office Web Apps in Read-Only Mode.

How do I configure IRM so I can access IRM Protected documents in Office Web Apps and Office Applications?

Thanks

Sharepoint and OWAC server certificate

$

Good day!

We use Office Web Apps Components server 2013SP1 and Lync 2013.

Currently we use certificate from internal CA on OWAC like owac.contoso.local with SAN owac.contoso.com.

OWAC is published for external Lync users with IIS ARR and we have a certificate on IIS ARR from public CA with a SAN owac.contoso.com.

Everything works fine.

Now we plan to implement SharePoint with OWAC integration. And we plan to use SharePoint from external network (Internet) and internal.

We require that external users should work from Internet with SharePoint and OWAC without any SSL issues.

The question is - should we reconfigure ssl certificate on OWAC server for this ? (or external users will work with SP and OWAC with OWAC's certificate from internal CA?)

May you help me with this question please ?

Thanks'.
