Documentation/Article of SharePoint Farm patching with it's DR (Hot Standby) with SQL Server AlwaysOn

While there are documentation available on the SharePoint Farm upgrade which also included the DR farm (in my case hot stand by) for the SQL server log shipping mechanism, I could not find any reference or article on SharePoint patching on a SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn setup with Asynchronous commit.

Although there is an article which says AlwaysOn Asynchronous replication is supported by SharePoint 2013, but in terms of SharePoint patching and what should be the approach nothing that I can find of.

If you are aware of any article, preferably Microsoft article or any blog post giving information on the above, please let me know.

Thanks in advance,

Sushanta

Site loads slowly from certificate check

I have a new web application that loads slowly if it's not used for about an hour.  If you try and access it after that it takes about 20 seconds to load the first time and after that it's ok.  The log files and developer dashboard reveal it's trying to validate a certificate for 19 seconds when this happens.  The message is, "SPCertificateValidator.Validate" and "Build the X509Chain".

I performed the steps in this KB article and they didn't help: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2639348

It tries to do this validation about 10 times in a row.  The site is only internal right now and doesn't even have an SSL certificate added to it so I'm not sure why this keeps happening.  Any help would be great.

2013 Online, public facing site, new user Self-Registration capability?

$

Hello,

We are developing a public facing site in SharePoint 2013 Online. The client would like to have new users register for an account, get a login and reset their PW on their own. I have read about Form Based Auth, and a few plugins for SharePoint that make this possible when installed to an on-premesis SharePoint server (need access to the SQL database and IIS).

Being this is SharePoint Online only, we are looking to stay away from on-prem, is there a new user Self-Registration capability, or can we run FBA on SharePoint 2013 Online?

Thanks,

Jason

denied access to everyone including site collection administrator/farm admin in sharepoint 2013

<location path="Lists/mylist/AllItems.aspx">
    <system.web>
      <authorization>
        <allow users="Ourdomain\Administrator"/>
        <deny users="*" />
      </authorization>
    </system.web>
  </location>

This simply gives access denied to everyone including administrator(super admin). I tried removing domain name\ but it simply does not work..

I just want only farm admin to access allitems(we have 5/6 confidential lists where we can not afford to give all items but still want user to add new item. I must give view application pages permission in order for user to add new(editform/newform) but this also makes user to access all items??

Sharepoint 2013 on premises- Powerpivot

We have a Sharepoint 2013 on premises environment with SQL Server 2008 R2. We need to configure Power Pivot /Power view reports/dashboards with Sharepoint 2013 using Excel 2013. From the TechNet blogs so far I understand that we need to deploy Power Pivot for SharePoint 2013 add-in for all Power Pivot Features or Sharepoint with Analysis Services in SharePoint Mode for Power Pivot workbooks in the browser.

For Sharepoint 2013 farm we need to have SQL Server 2012 SP1 package to use to deploy analysis services or power pivot add-in depending on the case. My question however is to know whether it depends also on the Sharepoint farm backend SQL Version, as I have SQL Server 2008 R2 running for the SP Farm.

In other words, given that I have a SP Farm SP2013 with SQL Server 2008R2 On Premises, Can I go on and install Power Pivot Add-in (packaged with SQL Server 2012 SP1) on this environment? May be a dumb question but will this work?

Thanks

Limit People Picker for a Site Collection to a specif AD Group

$

Hi,

I have followed the below article and have successfully been able to limit the people picker in our SharePoint 2013 environment to return users in a specific AD group.  Great!  The problem is it amends the people picker for all site collections in the web application.  Doh.  Due to various business reasons I need the people picker in each site collection (all in the same web application) to return results from different AD groups.

I have tried running the Set-SPSite -UserAccountDirectoryPath with the same "memberOf" query however this doesn't seem to work.  This command is only good for OUs not AD Groups.

Has anyone else achieved limiting the people picker to a specific AD group for a specific site collection only?

Thanks,

Mark

SharePoint 2013 Workflow error 200 when registering

I have a single web front end with a web apps server. I installed workflow manager on the web front end. When I go to register the workflow service I get the following error in powershell:

PS C:\Users\sa> Register-SPWorkflowService -SPSite "https://files.contoso.com/" -WorkflowHostUrihttps://workflow.files.contoso.com/:122190 Register-SPWorkflowService : A response was returned that did not come from the Workflow Manager. Status code = 200:<o:p></o:p>

If I look at the application log I see this:<o:p></o:p>

Alternate access mappings have not been configured.
Users or services are accessing the site https://apps.contoso.com with the URL https://workflow.files.contoso.com
This may cause incorrect links to be stored or returned to users.  If this
is expected, add the URL https://workflow.files.contoso.com
as an AAM response URL.  For more information, see: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=114854"/><o:p></o:p>

If I go to the pagehttps://workflow.files.contoso.com/:122190
I get the xml file as I should.<o:p></o:p>

The thing that is driving me crazy besides its not
working is I did all this in test and it works great...<o:p></o:p>

apps.contoso.com is my web apps server. Does anyone know
how I can get my main site or portal site of files.contoso.com to respond so
that workflows will work? Looks like apps.contoso is taking any web traffic
that doesn't have host headers or an aam setup. Thanks for the help!<o:p></o:p>

Access Request email not working

Hi,

We have SP2013 farm. Access request emails are not getting triggered. I am getting following error:

Failed attempt 3 sending mail to recipients: shundal@contractor-mcdermott.com. Mail Subject:Shidnal, Vinayak S. wants to access 'TestSecurity'.Error: SmtpException while sending email: System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender     at System.Net.Mail.DataStopCommand.CheckResponse(SmtpStatusCode statusCode, String serverResponse)     at System.Net.Mail.DataStopCommand.Send(SmtpConnection conn)     at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Email.SPSmtpClient.Send(MailMessage msg)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.Email.SPSmtpClient.TrySend(MailMessage msg)

Some blogs suggest that there might be a problem with Exchange server. i have few questions:

1. Under which service account does email is sent, is the the app pool account or timer service is responsible to send it?

2. What are the steps to resolve this issue.

Your help will be highly appreciated

Sideloading in SharePoint Online - still possible?

$

Background:

We're trying to program an app that'll sit in an AppPart in the Master Page for SharePoint Online sites; it'll manage navigation.  My developer has asked me to enabled sideloading for a test site collection.

My account is a Global Tenant Admin, as well as Primary Site Collection Administrator, and I'm following the instructions here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/officeapps/archive/2013/12/10/enable-app-sideloading-in-your-non-developer-site-collection.aspx

both to the letter, and with my own 'log on to SPO script (handles credentials slightly differently).  Both methods run

but I'm still getting:

Error encountered when trying to enable SideLoading feature https://{ourTenancy}sharepoint.com/sites/AppTest : Exception calling "ExecuteQuery" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."

Is there any chance that SideLoading has been disabled for some reason?

Edit: I'm aware that we can (and have in the interim) create a site from the Developer template that will allow our AppPart to sit in the master page.

Sharepoint App Store Issue - Sorry, we can't seem to connect to the SharePoint Store. Try again in a bit.

I have just setup a SharePoint 2013 server and attempted to enable the App store by using the following guide: http://www.naumanahmed.com/2012/07/sharepoint-2013-app-management-service.html#!/2012/07/sharepoint-2013-app-management-service.html

Everything seemed to go ok until i attempted to download an app.

When SharePoint attempts to get to the app store i get an error saying 'Sorry, we can't seem to connect to the SharePoint Store. Try again in a bit.'.  If i look at the logs the only error i can see relating to the App Marketplace is this:

An exception was thrown while running task 'GetOfficeMarkets'. Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: Sorry, we can't seem to connect to the SharePoint Store. Try again in a bit.
at Microsoft.SharePoint.Marketplace.OfficeProxy.OfficeProxy.GetMarkets(String userDefaultBillingMarket, String userDefaultContentMarket, String userIP, List`1& markets, Boolean& validDefault)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.StorefrontBase.GetOfficeMarkets(HttpRequest request, List`1& markets, Boolean& validDefaults)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.StorefrontBase.TaskGetOfficeMarkets()
at Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.StorefrontBase.TryRunTask(TryGetOutput taskMethod)

The server was using a proxy to connect to the internet, but since getting this error i have allowed it to directly access the internet on port 80 and 443.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

want to know if office 365 is ready for new projects(replacing on premise sharepoint development, deployments, workflows)

Hi MVP's out there,

I want to know if office 365 is ready for new projects(replacing on premise sharepoint development, deployments, workflows)

We will have new projects which we usually do in sharepoint 2013 on premises. Is it correct time to move new sharepoint client projects to office 365? Is someone actually doing this in production to have complex workflows, complex forms, database driven logic, security, import/export from excel into sharepoint(custom import) using office 365?

If anyone has real time project exp. using office 365(not simple calendar or simple app work- it needs SSO, custom sts, security, complex workflows, complex tab based forms, database pull/push) to share that will be great!

I also do not wish to have hybrid approach because we do not have scale to make it more complex.

We have small to medium complex sharepoint projects which we can either do on premise or office 365.

How to change host header for a site

$

Hi,

I installed sharepoint foundation 2013 and was trying to change the host header for the sharepoint application.

I used sharepoint central administration to remove sharepoint application from the IIS site (without deleting the site) and after that extend the application to the site again, this time using the host header.

The problem is that I lost the access to the website, I couldn't access the site anymore ("this site hasn't been shared with you")

Of course I tried to manage users and permissions using the sharepoint central administration, but I couldn't get access to the application again. If I create a new application the result is the same.

I uninstalled sharepoint foundation, installed again and don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for any help.

Intermittent Upgrade Required Error in the SharePoint 2013 Farm

$

Dears,

I've been seeing this Upgrade Error status intermittently in our SharePoint Farm and the fact is there isn't anything which needs an upgrade in reality.

Also, I found the solution that running, Get-SPProduct -Local  in the server which shows the status fixes this issue but this would again show up in next couple of days.

A related error in the event viewer would be,

"The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPProductVersionJobDefinition (ID a07e8822-482e-4c62-b07d-4911220f3ead) threw an exception. More information is included below.Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute."

Can someone pls help me if you have already come across this and have a permanent fix ? Thanks!

Mukesh
