Failed to get document content data SharePoint 2013 - Opening .jpeg´s in DocLib does show black x in IE 10

Hi together,

I try to open Pictures (JPEG) out of a document library. Since the Migration from SharePoint 2010 to 2013 it is not possible to open JPEGs. There is shown a black X if you click on a formerly working jpeg.

We are using SharePoint 2013 with Dezember 2014 CU.

If I click open in Explorer view, I am able to open these pictures with Windows Standard fax Viewer. One of these pictures I can open correctly within the browser.

Here are some of the ULS log entries I am getting arround the test I made with verboseex logging activated:

Failed to get document content data. System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Cannot complete this function at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSqlClient.GetDocumentContentRow(Int32 rowOrd, Object ospFileStmMgr, SPDocumentBindRequest& dbreq, SPDocumentBindResults& dbres)
Could not get DocumentContent row: 0x80004005.
Failure when fetching document. 0x80070012

I have no Idea how to resolve.

Opening These Pictures in Firefox is possible.....

Any ideas or suggestions?

Well I used the Wizard.....

I took an admin course before the company I work for bought a Sharepoint Enterprise server mainly for BI.

I am now thinking that I should have done more of the Site collection admin course because after watching some MVA's I really should not have used the config wizard. ( But it was SOOOOO Pretty ).

I have created some web apps and on each a site collection for the site. Yup apparently that is not really good.

Now I am trying to build an intranet site and pull data from each of those sites. well I bet you know how this is going.....

So I need to Move these sites to a Host-Path right? Trying to follow https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx

but my first problem is that port 80 was already used so I quickly changed the main web app to 8080.

I guess I am saying there there a Noob guide to how to convert all these web apps into one? Searching has failed me so far.

PerformancePoint Services with multiple web front-ends throws Event 4625 Null SID in Windows logs

I have a multiple WFE with a single app server set up. When attempting to connect PerformancePoint to a SharePoint list, I get "Unable to retrieve list", presumably only when hitting the WFEs ("Connection successful" when hitting the app server). There appear to be no SP errors in the ULS.

When these lists can't be retrieved, I check the windows event logs on the WFEs and get 4625 with NULL SID. it references the account that I am using as the unattended service account.

I've tried everything I can think of, including adding the servers to the BackConnectionHostNames in the registry. Disabling the loopback check is not an option in this production environment.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as we cannot create dashboards until we can successfully connect to the lists.

Thanks.

cannot create web application

Hello guys,

I recently deleted an existing web application. However, trying to recreate this web application seem to be a challenge because I get this error

The process cannot access the file 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\80\_app_bin\Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.ApplicationPages.dll' because it is being used by another process.

How can I get around this.

How to make my excel PowerPivot document access the connection file saved in document library instead of using the embedded one

Hi All,

I want to create PowerPivot tables in excel and upload them on sharepoint. One shrepoint I want to be able to refersh the data . For this I am  been using this link below to create a separate connection file and uploaded it to trusted data libraries.

https://maheshvd.wordpress.com/2012/01/20/excel-error-occurred-establishing-connection/#respond

Step 7 - Upload the connections to a document library -> I did this step and uploaded the connection file

Step 11 - In the connection File text box navigate and add the ODC file location that was added to SharePoint DataConnections library

Here I am not able to add the sharepoint url of the uploaded connection. I can just browse to the connection file which was saved in local.

This seems pretty basic but because of this I get below error

The data connection path in the workbook points to a file on the local drive or is an invalid URI.
Verify that the path to the data connection file in the workbook points to a data connection file in a Data Connection Library. The following connections failed to refresh:

Moving SQL Server Data to RBS ...

Hi All,

We have couple of Site collections that we wish to move to RBS.
We have followed the http://blogs.technet.com/b/pramodbalusu/archive/2011/07/09/rbs-and-sharepoint-2010.aspx

and using section H)  Move Content In and Out of RBS, we followed following scripts to move SQL to RBS.

----------------------------------------------------------------

$cdb = Get-SPContentDatabase WSS_Content_RBS
$rbss = $cdb.RemoteBlobStorageSettings

$rbss.Installed()
$rbss.Enable()
$rbss.MinimumBlobStorageSize=524288 //Set 524 Byte to content before migration.
$rbss.Migrate() //Actual migration from SQL to RBS
$rbss.SetActiveProviderName($rbss.GetProviderNames()[0])

-----------------------------------------------------------

But no data is pushed moved to RBS store.
What are doing wrong?
Please let me know, how I can fix this?

Thank you.

SharePoint with DPM

Hi, if I use DPM with SharePoint for item level restores can I also take SQL backups of the content databases? I assume that DPM and SQL would share the same backup chain and so this would be problematic. Is this true? How does DPM interact with the database files from a SQL perspective?

I want to have SQL backups of content databases so that I can restore them if we need to rebuild farm.

Could I have DPM protecting my AOAG instances but take SQL backups of a readonly secondary replica?

Thanks.

There are no servers available or actively being initialized

Hi all,

we are in a serious trouble with excel services and BI with SharePoint 2013.

We have a three tier Farm, 1 WFE, 1 App, 1 SQL with a fourth dedicated BI SQL with analysis (not in SharePoint mode). A Office Web Application server complete the infrastructure.

We are trying to make the powerpivot for SharePoint working. At the moment we have installed all the components using most of the various guide in the internet. We also created all the Kerberos SPN & delegation for all the components involved.
The same configuration was done in a test farm, identical to the produciont one, and it's working.

In production we are struck with the PowerPivot service application with the workbook activity chart with red X in it, and a error like "The data connection uses Windows Authentication and user credentials could not be delegated. The following connections failed to refresh" if we try to refresh the data in the server health part above.

In the logs we have:

"We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model" and, most specific:

ExcelService.PostProcessRequest: web method: EnsureWorkbookModel, got exception Id=NoStreamingServers; Microsoft.Office.Excel.Server.CalculationServer.SessionException: We cannot locate a server to load the workbook Data Model.

Digging more, we found this error:

There are no servers available or actively being initialized

According to :

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/analysisservices/archive/2012/08/02/verifying-the-excel-services-configuration-for-powerpivot-in-sharepoint-2013.aspx

I have communication issues between the servers, But I know that this kind of message could be generic.

I have tryed to telnet the Bi SQL server, opening the SQL MNGT from the SPS App server, I have no firewall active on the servers and they are virtuals on the same infrastructure. So I can't find out the problem. I suspect that is not a real network issue.

Please, anyone can suggest me how to understand where is the problem ? We are becoming crazy with this problem.

Thank you very much

Sharepoint Workflow 2013 Default App Permission Scope

Hello,

I've created a list that creates subsites through the REST API that uses a project site template. The site template i'm using has workflows that talk back to the main site using the REST API. The problem is I'm getting Access denied because the workflow has not yet been trusted outside the site scope. Is there a setting i can use to default the workflow to be trusted throughout the site collection so i don't have to manually trust each workflow as these subsites are created? Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

SharePoint 2013 Document Library alerts to Distribution List

Hi,

I would like to see if I can add library alert to a Distribution List. When I add the email address to the Users field, I got "Sorry, you are not allowed to share this with external users." error.

I followed the information here - http://davidmsterling.blogspot.com/2013/10/send-alert-or-email-to-group.html but I still got the same error message. I tried and I was able to add the "Universal Security Group" to the SP visitors group.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

User Accounts for Installation, Configuration and Administration of SharePoint 2013

I believe there are various accounts to be used in SharePoint for various purposes. For example, there is an Install Account, Farm Account, SQL Admin account, Service Account and so on. Can anyone please point to me some good link or material, where I can find detailed info on this. This has always been one of those areas, which causes a lot of confusion. I would like to know the various types of accounts, what privileges / permissions should they have at various levels, what are they used for and what they can / cannot do in SharePoint. Can anyone please guide me?

Moving Sharepoint Server to Different Subnet

$

Hi I am just wondering if anyone has tried to move sharepoint to a different subnet, which would involve changing Sharepoints IP address.

Is there any issues with doing so, or things that I should be aware of? Right now I know that I will have to change the external and internal DNS entries for sharepoint sites accessible from the internet, but what about central administration, anything to do in there?

Can't edit Sharepoint 2013 site page.

I'm running into an issue in Sharepoint 2013 where I can't edit a page on a sub-site, that it appears I should have permissions to, and I'm the sole administrator. I click on 'Edit Page', and most of the options are greyed out. What's interesting is that I can still edit all of the Lists, Libraries and Wikis within the page, just not the main page layout.

This isn't the case on any of the other Sharepoint sub sites, or the top level site. The permissions are inherited, which means that it should work.

Is there a way to reset the permissions, like a propagation downwards in Windows?
