Hi,

I am trying to create external content type. i have consumed the webservice through BCS.

However while creating ReadList operation i am getting errors:

Errors and Warnings :

Is it possible to split host named site collections across multiple search content sources ?

$
0
0

Scenario : I have multiple host named site collections (HNSCs):

https://sales.contoso.com

https://hr.contoso.com

https://finance.contoso.com

All of these reside in the web application named https://web.contoso.com , and this web app has a root site collection.

Per TechNet article on planning HNSCs: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx

"Only the root site collection of the web application appears in the content source. Even though all other host-named site collections in the web application do not appear in the content source, by default search automatically crawls the other host-named site collections."

So, specifying https://web.contoso.com as the start address of a search content source will crawl all of the 3 HNSCs in the example above.

However, I would like to specify separate crawl schedules for each of the HNSCs, which would require configuring them with their own individual search content sources. I tried that but got an error stating that 'This item could not be crawled because the crawler could not connect to the repository'.

Question: Is there a way to have separate crawl schedules for individual HNSCs ?  (That is, without splitting them up into separate web applications)

Thanks,

Mario

SharePoint 2013 Administrative Account Permissions

I'm looking for documentation about the permissions needed to administrate SharePoint Server 2013. My administrative account needs to have access to Central Administration, web applications, PowerShell, and local server resources like the file system, event logs, services, etc.

I have found several articles that I had hoped would have the information but do not:

Plan for administrative and service accounts in SharePoint 2013 literally has the sentence:

This article does not describe security roles and permissions required to administer in SharePoint 2013.

This upsets me as I am looking for the documentation that does describe the roles and permissions required to administer in SharePoint 2013 and this line offers no help other than telling me what I need isn't here. For anyone from the documentation team that happens to read this I offer the feedback that following that sentence there should be a link to the documentation that I am asking about here (assuming it exists ;)

Initial deployment administrative and service accounts in SharePoint 2013 details permissions for the setup user account which is like an administrative account except that in my case the farm has been set up and I need to have administrative accounts.

Account permissions and security settings in SharePoint 2013 describes the permissions accounts and groups are granted on individual resources on the server. While this is informative, it doesn't describe what rights I need to grant an account so it can administer.

Use Windows PowerShell to administer SharePoint 2013 describes the permissions needed to run Add-SPShellAdmin to grant others administrative access, but doesn't actually describe the permission needed to use PowerShell to administrate.

Does this information exist publicly?

How can I edit the SamAccountName column from the list or be able to edit it?

Hello,

In my view for a SharePoint list, I see three columns for SamAccountName.  This list is for listing staff as a directory, so there are phone numbers, names, emails addresses, division, department and such.  The  SamAccountName column for some people has incorrect username or is blank.  When I edit a record in the list, the SamAccountName column is not available to edit.

How can I edit the SamAccountName column from the list or be able to edit it?

I do have user profiles working and importing profiles from AD, but the list still shows empty or incorrect SamAccountName for some records.

Hidden column expecting metadata

$

When I try to save a doc to a specific doc library Word says that metadata is missing or invalid but according to the DIP nothing is missing. So I go into the content type and unhide a couple of columns (setting them to optional) just to see if they are causing an issue.
When I go to the DIP now, one of the previously hidden columns is showing as required.
How can that be? How can a hidden column be expecting a value to be supplied. This column may have been required at some stage but has since been set to hidden. Surely this action would take away the requirement for metadata for that column?
There doesn't seem to be an option (under edit column) to remove the requirement which convinces me that this may be a bug?

People Search and a Custom Property

I am trying to surface a custom property in the people search query results. For example,

http://<servername:port>/_api/search/query?querytext='*'&sourceid='B09A7990-05EA-4AF9-81EF-EDFAB16C4E31'

I get XML results but when I look at the properties returned for each of the people result, there are no custom properties from user profile properties. How can I modify the custom properties so that they start showing in the XML results for people search?

Rank, DocId, AboutMe, AccountName, BaseOfficeLocation, Department etc.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

Update: I am using SearchExecutor class and its ExecuteQuery API.

Cannot create MySites for accounts from a trusted domain

I am trying to create the MySites on our development instance using my production domain login. I can login to the root site, and my name is rendered correctly in the drop down, but when I try to create the MySite, I am getting a user not found error. I am able to create a MySite using a dev domain account, but cannot use my production domain account. Does anyone know what security configuration needs to occur so that I can use my production account?

The ULS log has this entry, which indicates I should be able to create the site:

Sharepoint portal external access through WAP

Hello,

I am trying to provide external access to sharepoint site using WAP. Followed the article to every step. But I am getting "webpage not available" error from outside.

http://www.sharepoint4developers.net/en-nz/post/wap-adfs-sp2013-kerberos.aspx

I am working with windows 2012R2 and Sharepoint 2013

1. I can access the site internally using http (not https). Kerberos is enabled and I verified the kerberos ticket is generated when I access the site.

2. From outside I can ping the site.

For testing I made changes on DNS so if I use https://portal.domain.com from inside network it redirects to WAP server.

It seems that it is hitting WAP and getting redirected to ADFS and I do see the ADFS login page but there is no login and password fields. Instead I see the error below (on the browser).

On ADFS server I see the error below

Server manager->ADFS

The incoming sign-in request is not allowed due to an invalid Federation Service configuration.

User Action:
Examine the Federation Service configuration and take the following actions:
Verify that the sign-in request has all the required parameters and is formatted correctly.
Verify that a web application proxy relying party trust exists, is enabled, and has identifiers which match the sign-in request parameters.
Verify that the target relying party trust object exists, is published through the web application proxy, and has identifiers which match the sign-in request parameters.

Question:

1. I am not sure why I cant get to WAP from outside

2. Can I use wildcard certificates  on all servers. I used the same certificates everywhere.

Help please.

Thanks

Restore-SPSite Error - 0x80070003

Hi there,

So my situation is I have a Content DB that is over 100GB in SP 2010.  My plan is to "split" it when I move the Site Collection to SP 2013.  So what I have done so far is:-

  1. Backup from SP 2010 environment;
  2. Restore to SP 2013 (SQL 2012) environment;
  3. Mount and upgrade Content DB to original URL - http://intranet/sites/Ops;
  4. Tests okay in browser etc in SP 2013 version
  5. Backup to a .bak file;
  6. Delete content from the mounted DB that is no longer needed
  7. Run the following command to restore to new URL and new Content DB
Restore-SPSite http://intranet/sites/NewURL -Path z:\SPS_Operations_7Apr1627.bak -ContentDatabase SPS_NewContenDB

SharePoint audit reports missing last View events from audit log

Hello,

I have encountered a problem with the SharePoint audit system, the last few read operations are missing from the audit.

My problem was the same as described here:

https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/364aba87-b19d-48a8-af12-8454f253f8f2/while-fetching-the-audit-log-programmatically-last-downloaded-document-is-not-fetched-from-auditing?forum=sharepointdevelopmentprevious

But after investigating I have found that it’s more than that, the same problem (missing last read events from the audit) also happens when I’m using PowerShell to retrieve the audit, and even when generating audit report from the site settings the excel is missing some audit entries.

The missing audit shows up with the correct time only after I perform an operation such as switching to a different page in the site (that’s why normally when generating audit report no entries are missing – because you need to switch to the site settings page).

I have couple of scenarios to reproduce the problem:

  1.       Using PowerShell

Open up a PowerShell and run the following commands:

Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

$s1 = Get-SPSite "http://sp-site-url/"

$q1 = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPAuditQuery($s1)

$s = Get-Date

$s = $s.ToUniversalTime()

Now, go to the SharePoint site that you want to retrieve audit from and download a file from it.

After downloading the file go back to the PowerShell and enter:

$e = Get-Date

$e = $e.ToUniversalTime()

$q1.SetRangeEnd($e)

$q1.SetRangeStart($s)

$s1.Audit.GetEntries($q1)

You should see that a view event on the file you’ve downloaded is missing.

Go back to the site, switch to a different page (go to site settings for example).

And now, back in the PowerShell, enter the command:

$s1.Audit.GetEntries($q1)

You’ll notice that now the view entry is present there.

  1.       Using Custom Audit Report

This scenario will show that audit is not only missing when collecting it from SPAPI or PowerShell scripts, but it’s missing even when using the auditing reports from the site collection administration.

First, open the site settings, go to “Audit log reports”, and go to “Run a custom report”.

In the custom report settings check all the events, and select a time frame of the next 5 minutes.

Leave this page as is and open a new page in addition, the same site collection that you’re about to generate audit report on, from this new page download a file.

Go to the audit report window and click OK to generate the audit report.

You should see that the view event on the downloaded file is missing from the audit report.

Just to be more clear, in both the scenarios I’ve given, let’s say that I want to collect all the audit on the site collection between 16:00 to 16:05, and at 16:02 I go to a site and download a file – I’ve used PDF files and not text files to avoid browser caching which also cause loss of audit, but that’s because of the caching so it’s not a real new download that is missing.

So, in both ways of audit collection (using PowerShell or the audit report generator) when I’ll collect all the audit between 16:00 to 16:05 I won’t see the file download (view event) in the audit (assuming, of course, that I haven’t performed another action after downloading the file).

If then I’ll go to a different page on the site, and again collect all the audit between 16:00 to 16:05 I will see the file download at 16:02.

This means that the audit I collect (in either way) is unreliable, and if I collect audit periodically (each time I collect audit for the last 5 minutes) it means that there might be audit entries that I’ll never retrieve.

Is there a working workaround for this issue? Will it be fixed any time soon?

Thanks.

SharePoint 2013 - random authentication issue where users are suddenly anonymous

Hi,

I've banged my head for too long now on this issue, so I'm hoping anyone here can shed some light on it. We're running on April 2013 CU but the problem has existed since RTM.

The issue is that some users (all of this random) can't access the site ("An error has occurred") and get an error page. The Web App is configured with Claims (NTLM and FBA Membership/Role Provider). No custom login page and configuration for the web.configs is verified. It works 99% of the times, but occasionally a user gets an error and I have to restart the Distributed Cache to fix it.

1 WFE & 1 APP with SP2013 April 2013 CU with a few web apps. There's also a WAC server connected, but that shouldn't make a difference. The Distributed Cache runs only on the WFE:

PS C:\> Use-CacheCluster
PS C:\> Get-CacheHost

HostName : CachePort Service Name Service Status Version Info
-------------------- ------------ -------------- ------------
WFE.domain.local:22233 AppFabricCachingService UP 3 [3,3][1,3]

There's sufficient RAM to avoid the Distributed Cache to force purge data.

The logs seem to indicate that the user is seen as anonymous:

I'm figuring the Distributed Cache gets confused about the authentication tokens and starts handing out the wrong token to some users ? If I leave the Distributed Cache disabled it seems to permanently fix the issue, but that's not an ideal scenario.

All help is appreciated!

Permissions needed to allows non site owners run Site Usage Report

Hi All,

We are running SP2013 Enterprise, and are looking for some help with Site Usage Reports (Popularity Trends), and the permissions that needed to to granted to a non-site owner to allow then to open the site usage report (not site collection)

In SP2010 there was a user permission for sites "View Web Analytics Data", that could be granted to non-site owners that allows non-site owners to view the old style reports.

From my investigations it seems that in SP2013 users seem to need the "Manage Web Site" permission, (and a few others) to get access to the site usage report, this permission gives users access to actions such as "Delete this site".

Has anyone else come across this issue and been able to find a satisfactory solution ?

The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role

when I install prerequisiteinstaller.exe in sharepoint 2013, got the below error:

Error when enabling ASP.NET v4.0.30319

Error: The tool was unable to install Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role.

Last return code (-2146646015)

anyone can help this? thanks in advance.

Incorrect Picture URL for People Search

$

Hi

I am having a weird issue relating to People search using the wrong Picture URL in this case pictures are not displaying cause they are coming through as HTTP when all is set to HTTPS.

Problem:
Picture URL within People Search is pointing to HTTP not HTTPS. Within the User Information List, users that have not logged on before, have HTTP pictures. Users that have logged on, their names within the User Information List, simply redirects to the MySite Page and displays the HTTPS image as expected(in MySite). So this begs the next question why is people search displaying incorrect image for both logged on and inactive users.

To note:
-This is a new install and has not gone to production yet.
-MySite using SSL
-'Setup MySites' configured correctly and displays HTTPS and linked to correct search center.
-MySite profile for the users that have logged display the correct images to HTTPS(desired outcome)
-Viewing profiles via UPS -> Manage User Profiles, all images are there using HTTPS(desired outcome)
-Users that have not logged on have the HTTP picture within the User Information List(undesired outcome)
-Search using default content source with sps3s://mysitehost.domain.com not https://mysitehost.domain.com(tried this too no effect)
-Crawl Rule added as both https and sps3s with mysitehost.domain.com
-Tried switching MySite web application AAM around to default being HTTP and Internet HTTPS and visa versa. Left as default HTTPS and Internet HTTP now.

What I can gather:
-UPS sync updates pictures and seems to not be related to the problem.
-Search does not throw any errors within crawl logs and mysite content can be accessed fine.
-How can I update value within User Information list? Better to just delete and re-add to permission groups?
-Search is being unreasonable and will not crawl sps3s://mysitehost.domain.com

To still test:
Try update something within AD and see if change actually comes through via people search and UPS

To add to the confusion, I have an UAT environment which is working as expected with same configuration.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

User Profile Synchronization Service Stopped

Hello,

We're having a problem in our Sharepoint 2013 enviroment in starting User Profile Synchronization Service.

I've already checked this technet article and I can verify that we don't have these problems but it still keeps stopping.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg750257(v=office.14).aspx

Isn't there any way to see what is the exact problem?

Thank you
