We have SharePoint 2013 on premise and Office 365. I would like to configure Site mailbox in Sharepoint 2013 on-premise and use Exchange online. This is possible by Hybrid setup accdg to the related thread (sorry i cant insert the link since my acct is not yet verified). Nonetheless, whether it's true or not, I was thinking about the steps on how to exactly do it. I'm hoping with this new thread I could get my spot-on answer. Thanks!
Configure site mailbox on SharePoint 2013 using Exchange online
Best Practice for Host Named Site Collections and Web Apps
Looking for advice on setting up the host named site collections. If I am reading many of the technet articles and blogs correctly I should 1) have only 1 top level web app for host named site collections and 2) not have a host header for that web app. If that's correct I am looking for advice. We have 7 separate domains that we support in our farm. Currently each of those domains is divided into web applications based on the domain, *.contoso, *.trains.com, *.bakers.com, etc. Is the concept now that all of the host named site collections fall under that one web app? How do we deal with the SSL for each of those separate domains which all have their own certificates?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

PSConfig Hangs on App Server
Greetings,
I have a scenario where psconfig hangs on a server and need to determine why.
BACKGROUND:
This is a fairly small farm containing 3 SharePoint servers:
Web Front-end Server - Server 03
Search Server - Server 02 (This is dedicated to search services)
App Server - Server 01 (this is where Central Administration runs)
All servers and services have been running.
On Saturday, I installed the March 10, 2015 CU on all 3 servers without any issues.
Afterwards, I was able to successfully run "psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force" on servers 03 and 02 without any issues.
On the App Server 01, I started psconfig (from PowerShell) and it got to the upgrade stage then hung. I allowed it to run for hours then finally interrupted it.
PSCDiagnostics:
Looking at the PSCDiagnostics log file, I noticed, starting at line 4636, I started seeing warning (WRN) entries.

SharePoint 2013 - random authentication issue where users are suddenly anonymous
Hi,
I've banged my head for too long now on this issue, so I'm hoping anyone here can shed some light on it. We're running on April 2013 CU but the problem has existed since RTM.
The issue is that some users (all of this random) can't access the site ("An error has occurred") and get an error page. The Web App is configured with Claims (NTLM and FBA Membership/Role Provider). No custom login page and configuration for the web.configs is verified. It works 99% of the times, but occasionally a user gets an error and I have to restart the Distributed Cache to fix it.
1 WFE & 1 APP with SP2013 April 2013 CU with a few web apps. There's also a WAC server connected, but that shouldn't make a difference. The Distributed Cache runs only on the WFE:
PS C:\> Use-CacheCluster PS C:\> Get-CacheHost HostName : CachePort Service Name Service Status Version Info -------------------- ------------ -------------- ------------ WFE.domain.local:22233 AppFabricCachingService UP 3 [3,3][1,3]
There's sufficient RAM to avoid the Distributed Cache to force purge data.
The logs seem to indicate that the user is seen as anonymous:

I'm figuring the Distributed Cache gets confused about the authentication tokens and starts handing out the wrong token to some users ? If I leave the Distributed Cache disabled it seems to permanently fix the issue, but that's not an ideal scenario.
All help is appreciated!
"HTTP Throttling error" occuring at off peak hours
Greetings,
Please suggest reasons why "HTTP throttling error" occurs not only at peak hours but also at off-peak hours (for eg. when 0 user is accessing the site).
Please consider the following error for your reference (I am not getting any idea about the given error even upon referring to the uls log)
The following error is displayed during off-peak hour time-
"Http throttling on SharePoint - 80 stops because there is no heavy load detected now. 0 requests have been throttled during the throttling period".
The following error is displayed during peak hour time-
"Http throttling second stage starts because a heavy load was still detected on SharePoint - 80. The excessive performance counters include: ServerName\ASP.NET\Requests Current: 760.57"
Thanks in advance.
Sharepoint 2013 REST API
Hi,
How does the session stickiness work in Sharepoint 2013 REST API ?
I mean if the communication from client to server is only through REST Apis and no browser interaction is involved, does the session maintain properly , given a F5 load balancer scenario?
disable grant permission option for entire web application in sharepoint 2013.
I would like to know is there any option, setting, power shell script to disable grant permission for entire web-application/site collection.
Requirement: Any user should not get option to grant permissions at site, list, item, library level.
My approach:
Providing Full control to Application owner at web application level
deleting all permissions level
creating custom permissions level and remove permissions option at site, list level.
Please share your thoughts to full fill my requirement.
Thanks,
GNK

"Sharepoint 2013" is giving error that prevents local domain users authentication for "Team Foundation Server"
I am getting 2 errors through the event viewer that prevents TFS 2013 authentication for local domain users, also this error started appearing after having TFS upgraded to [ 12.0.30723.0 (Tfs2013.Update3) ].
1st Error (from administrative events):
The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUsageImportJobDefinition (ID a51a0244-765d-433b-8502-0bb0540ad1fd) threw an exception. More information is included below.
Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS' is denied.
Tried so far:-
- changed the path to another folder from "Diagnostic Logging" in another drive, but still getting the same error.
2nd Error (from application server):

Which I already got fixed using the following steps on a thread I opened before (but still getting the same error).
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/3896e35c-b99a-4d30-b662-f92d337c8d6f/windows-servers-components-services-and-regedit-permissions-are-grayed-out-for-my-admin-account?forum=winservergen
Other Fixes I tried
- Found on another topic that it is not sharepoint that is causing the problem, but it is the generated ASP.NET web pages used for testing is causing the memory to fill up due to cashing on RAM, the fix suggested to change IIS cashing from RAM to HD to prevent loading up using w3wp.exe from processes.
Concern
- by checking other topics for people having the same problem, it was mentioned that this error appeared after the lastest TFS update, is there is a fix for it ?
Sharepoint 2013 claims users
What happens if an claims based user(say ADFS) never logs into sharepoint site and just performs the CRUD operations using backend REST APIs?
Sharepoint 2013 ULS logs
Identify columns then set visibility
We have 2 columns that are across all libraries in a web application.
In all cases they should be hidden from the edit and view properties forms.
How can I (powershell) loop through the web app and report on those libraries where this is not the case.
Report: Site name: Library name: Column that is not hidden in one or both forms.
Not looking to fix this in the script at this stage, just flag it in the report.
SQL 2012 SP1 PowerPivot and Windows Server 2012 R2
I'm trying to install PowerPivot for SharePoint and I keep getting this error.
PowerPivotConfigTool has stopped working.
The setup:
- SharePoint 2013 (15.0.4649.1000 )
- SQL 2012 SP1
- Windows Server 2012 R2
I have double checked the installation Binged and Googled and cannot get this resolved. Any help would be appreciated.

UPSA Errors, SQL Errors, Timeouts, Event ID 3, Event ID 3355
Greetings,
My User Profile Service has been running without issue for the last week or so; once I was able to provision it.
Yesterday morning, we noticed it was in a "User Profile Sync is not currently provisioned" state.
I went through the normal steps to start the service and after 15 minutes it stopped again. The certifications are there, I saw the 2 Forefront services start, then I saw a number of errors being logged. Then, of course, the sync service stopped.
I am investigating the errors logged I see many Event ID 3; SQL timeout. I am familiar with how to increase the Forefront timeout configuration but am wondering if the issue is something deeper.
This is a small 3 server farm; 01 - Application Server (Central Administration), 02 - Dedicated Search Server, 03 - WFE.
The UPSA and sync is configured to run on 03. However, when I look at failed timer jobs, I see the "User Profile Service - User Profile Incremental Synchronization" job failing on both servers 01 and 03. These jobs are running every minute and have thousands of failures.
Why would this job be running on 01? I have never scheduled it to run on the 01 server?
I'm not sure if this is related, but I also see intermittent Event ID 3355 in the logs. This event indicates the following:
"Cannot connect to SQL Server. {Our SQL Server} not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
Table 'TimerJobHistory'. Scan count 1, logical reads 4, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0."
Intranet/Extranet authentication modal.
If I create a new host name site collection in 1 web application, how authentication will work on existing site collection?
Can I create 1 web application with 1 host name site collection and that can be accessed by 2 urls?
- intranet.dev.con.au
- extranet.dev.com.au
intranet will use AD authentication and extranet will use a custom authentication.
Sync Tasks To Outlook Gives "Sync disabled due to errors" error?
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help with an issue we are having trying to get the Task Sync Feature working between SharePoint 2013 and Outlook 2013 using Exchange Server 2013 all on premises. Originally we had an error message saying it was unable to sync with Exchange but after reading "lots" of articles on the internet we finally figured this out to be a script that needed to be ran on Exchange server as well as the Exchange EWS installed on Exchange and SharePoint, finally we made sure our "mysites" was HTTPS.
After getting though this issue we are now presented with the current issue which is simply saying "Sync disabled due to errors. Last try <date/time>". We have gone though forums on the intranet to try to sort the issue out without success. A lot of the forums are pointing to rights issues so we have made sure the User Profile and the Work Management Service have permissions together. Also on top of this as a "test" we have given the user profiles involved Admin rights on the SharePoint and the SQL server as well as giving the users dbAdmin rights on SQL and still see the error (we don't plan to keep it like this mind you!).
Any help or guidance on this error and how to fix it would be appreciated, we can see nothing in the event log of SharePoint, Exchange or SQL servers to identify what could be going wrong?
Many thanks in advance
Mike
