Hi guys,

Since Microsoft ships SharePoint updates with windows update I would like to know the following build sequence is a right way for me to build my SharePoint farm:

  • Install SP13 bin (with SP1) on Win 2012 R2
  • Configure SP farm with basic services
  • Install SharePoint SP1 update (April 2014)
  • Install SharePoint  Feb 2015 CU (uber package) -  to support for AOAG
  • Install Windows updates and patches
  • Configure Distributed Cache
  • Install AppFabric CU5
  • Configure User Profile
  • Configure Search
  • Configure OWA farm

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have setup the thumbnail pictures for users in Sharepoint 2013. I can browse the library throughy this  link

http://myserver/sites/mysite/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/User%20Photos/Forms/Thumbnails.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsites%2Fmysite%2FUser%20Photos%2FProfile%20Pictures&FolderCTID=0x0120008BF2C6579F4E1947B6C670F4524E2C06&View=%7BDF932ADB%2D33D5%2D4024%2DA88C%2DA4B0253DBE98%7D

but when I open a user page, the picture is not loading. I see from the debugger that is calling the following url which is missing a "/" right after the sites/mysite

http://myserver/sites/mysiteUser%20Photos/Profile%20Pictures/j_doe_LThumb.jpg?t=63560464578

How can I fix this??

Recycle Bin not working on some sites

Hey,

i'm having the problem that on some sites the recycle bin is not working. Newly created sites work. Also some sites from the beginning.

There is no quota on the site, no limit on the sql database and the database is now up2date. The CA doesn't say it yet but the powershell command completes like this:

Here is the log entry:

I'm setting up an external content type to allow the User Profile Service to sync with our SQL HR table. I've got it all configured but I am not sure how to setup security. I do not know what Application mode to choose and what Secure Store Application ID I am supposed to be entering.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible to change a managed path from Explicit to wildcard using PowerShell? I need to add some more site collections to a managed path and don't want to remove and re-add the managed path.

Thanks for any suggestions.

SharePoint 2013 - Setup, Upgrade, Administration and Operations

We recently upgraded our version of SharePoint from 2010 to 2013, we also updated the server to SQL 2012.  As a result we are trying to determine what is the best practice as it relates to fragmentation.  Should we create a job in SQL to run automatically or does SharePoint 2013 have it's on defrag tool built-in?   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there

I have a question about an upcoming on premises (not hybrid) SharePoint Server 2013 installation - can you use One Drive for Business to create synchronised folders on a client computer?  If so could you direct me to information on how and where to configure settings for this application?

Many Thanks

Distributed cache and Windows AppFabric

got some issues with the Dist. cache

followed this in order to remove the servicenstance

Run Get-SPServiceInstance to find the GUID in the ID section of the Distributed Cache Service that is causing an issue.

$s = get-spserviceinstance GUID
$s.delete()

It deletes fine but when I try to add:

Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

I get this:

Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance : Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.Configuration, Version=1.0.0.0, Cul

how do I resolve this?

SharePoint 2013 check permissions unable to find permission level for AD user

$

In our environment for SharePoint AD groups are associated with individual AD members and AD group is given access to SharePoint group with a permission level. When I want to check for a user who are part on the AD group using check permission to find their SharePoint permission level it returns "none", but when I check what permission level the AD group has check permission returns correct permission level.

I am not sure if this is the right behavior for SharePoint 2013 not to display individual AD user permission using check permission, business users have to request IT every time they have to find a user permission level.

Why do my Visitors users get Access Denied in my New Forms - Mobile Devices Only

$

The issue I have is that I have a SP2013 Site with a group Visitors.

the default Site Permissions have been set to Read.

I then created a SharePoint List with a People Picker.

I broke the Security inheritance and gave the Visitors group Contribute Permissions

In Browser mode, they can access the site, open all links and even add content to list.

When I do the same actions on a mobile device, All the visitors get Access Denied when clicking on the Add Content Link.

The Link I make available is "https://myweb/sites/site/Lists/mylist/NewForm.aspx"

I have found some suggestions about unplublished content, but this does not explain why the user can perform the required actions on a desktop, but not on a mobile device using the same link

Extending Web Application - File Not Found

$

A quick search with no results and a ton of frustration are leading me here...I am attempting to use the very basic "Extend" functionality for a Web Application. We are trying to at the least add SSL/443 to SharePoint, if not convert entirely to 443.

I have tried simply extending the Web Application, or deleting the IIS Site (from Manage Web Applications -> Delete -> Remove SharePoint from IIS Web Site) and then extending the Web Application. Both are failing with the same error "File not found." A review of the ULS logs shows that the site is failing to find the web.config for the brand new IIS site it should be creating...which I guess makes sense, but shouldn't it be creating this file?

I am tempted to mess around with the newly created site in IIS to make it work, but we are doing this in Dev as a proof of concept to do this in production. Needless to say, this needs to become much more reproducible before we'd even consider doing it in production.

Some things I've tried:

  • Extending a Web Application with an existing site
  • Extending a Web Application without an existing site
  • Creating a new Web Application and extending existing port 80 site
  • Creating a new Web Application and extending after deleting existing port 80 site

I haven't tried creating a site 443 out of the gate mainly because I am afraid this functionality failing could be an indication of something wrong with the farm and want to fix this correctly, rather than deleting a Web Application and creating it 443 from the get-go. Also, this method would obviously involve downtime.

powershell site creation Sharing permissions issues

$

Hello, I'm new at this Sharepoint administration stuff.I created a new site collection in powershell with this:

$template = Get-SPWebTemplate "STS#0"

New-SPSite -Url "http://website/its/newsitehere" -OwnerAlias "main\userhere" -Template $template

And now, when I try to "Share" it by clicking on the top right of the site, the only permission option is "View".
I have made other sites through the GUI (Central Administration) and the other options are there. But when I create it through Powershell the only permissions available is View.

What can be the problem?

Thanks!

Migration and URLRewrite

We are doing an incremental migration, site by site.

My question is, can we rewrite/redirect a specific website to it's new location and what exactly would be the pattern

http://sp2007.com/Teams/mymovingsite/...

to

https://sp2013.mycompany.com/IT/mymovingsite/...

but not map if ends in "?migrated" so we can access if needed
