User Profile: Creating Synchronization Connections => Crashes ?

$

Forum,

I have the User Profile service application and the User Profile Synchronization service application running on the same server and their status "Started".

My problem is:

Every time I try to create a new Synchronization connection >  Create New Connection > Filled all the fields correctly and tried both ports: 389 and 636 > Selecting the wanted/required OUs > Clicked OK: Shows “Working on it…” > After sometime… long minutes > It crashes and shows: “Sorry, Something went wrong” and thread was aborted > No Synchronization Connection was created.

As an immediate impact: The entire Web application of My Site goes down to all users and shows: “Something went wrong”. Even the User Profile Service page on Central Admin shows “Something went wrong”, and the only way to bring it back online is via IIS on all the SharePoint server.

I swear I followed all the instructions of Spencer Harbar and everything was working OK in the past, But we had issue where we had to reset the Sync DB and the service entirely. Since that day we are unable to create new connections at all.

Also, I have tried to adjust the timeouts used using Windows PowerShell as explained on: http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups2.aspx#ups7

I am still getting the same results...

SharePoint 2013 - People Picker and multiple domains

My environment

Old domain (still exist): olddomain.local

New domain (exist): Forest (contoso.local) with 2 domains:

  • newdomain.contoso.local (User)
  • newservice.contoso.local (Servideaccounts, Server, SharePoint)

New and old domain are still existing with a one way trust.

I configured the peoplepicker with a user account for every domain.

The SharePoint Server is in the newservice.contoso.local domain.

I used the follwing command to configure the people picker:

stsadm -o setproperty -urlhttp://allwebapplications -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -pv "domain:newservice.contoso.local,<newservice\LoginName>,<Password>;domain:newdomain.contoso.local,<newdomain\LoginName>,<Password>;domain:olddomain.local,<olddomain\LoginName>,<Password>"

And now I have the following problem:

Any ideas to solve this problem?

Thank you in advance!

Alerts not working when using Exchange 2007 server

Hello,

The alerts from my SharePoint 2013 site is not working.  I am using Exchange 2007. Are there settings in exchange that need to be done to enable SharePoint to use it for outbound emails?

I ran this command, and it ran successfully.

stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url http://site -pn alerts-enabled -pv true

The SharePoint jobs are running and set to send alerts immediately

Alerts are enabled on the page, the alert icon on the ribbon, where I can set alerts.

But no alerts are being sent.

Do app pool accounts need to be granted full control/read user policies to each web app

We have an SP2013 farm and have been getting intermittent 403 errors - logs contain thing s like

An exception occurred in UserProfileServiceProvider claim provider when calling SPClaimProvider.FillResolveClaim(): An error was encountered while retrieving the user profile..

and

[06/03/2015 09:46] Jonathan Read:

PortalSiteMapProvider was unable to fetch root node, request URL: /personal/<domainuser>/Documents/Forms/All.aspx, message: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)), stack trace:

Done some reading and some suggestions out there that app pool IDs of web apps need to be given full control in the user policy for the web app

Is this best practice?

Thanks

How-To: Restart the Database Server (SQL Server) in SharePoint Farm safely ?

$

Hello,

My farm has 4 SharePoint servers: 2 Application-Servers, and 2 WFE-Servers.

Each WFE-Server is running Distributed Cache service which means, I have 2 Distributed Cache service.

I must restart my SQL Server, But, How can I do that without losing the Cached data?

I can use Stop-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance -Graceful   which will move the cache from one server to another, But, what to do with the other one then?

I am really concerned because TechNet says: "Stopping the cache results in partial data loss. The Feed Cache depends on the Distributed Cache service.Tags and document activities are saved only to the Feed Cache.Tags and document activities are not persisted to content databases."

MySite create failure: ULS=Skipping auto-upgrade/instantiation

$

Hi.

I've got an issue I'm having trouble resolving.

SharePoint 2013 farm with MySite host configured and 64 MySites created by end users;
It was brought to my attention some users can't "follow", so I explained they need to setup a MySite... but users are now unable to create MySites.

So I tried replicating the issue and sure enough when they click on OneDrive, it just takes them back to their profile page.

So I double check self creation, permissions, Manage User Permissions and managed paths all OK.
Checked logs and when ever somebody clicks the OneDrive link the follow appear:
User profile property 'EduUserRole' not found from from MySitePersonalSiteUpgradeOnNavigationWebPart::GetUserRoleFromProfile(). This should indicate that the current user is not an edudation user.
Skipping auto-upgrade/instantiation from MySitePersonalSiteUpgradeOnNavigationWebPart::RenderWebPart() because this user is a Profile Only user.

If I go to the User Profile Management page (under UPA) and check the box "My Site Upgrade:", then the user will have a MySite created and see the "Let's get social" page.

I'm stumped.

Any help/insight much appreciated.

Thanks.

How to configure and set a default view for contents of a data set

$
0
0

Here is my scenario:

I have a document library where each item is a "Plan".  "Plan" is of a custom content type that inherits from a Document Set content type but has some additional attributes such as Plan Type.  Inside each Plan, each item is a Plan Document which is of custom content type Plan Document which inherits from Document content type but has some additional attributes e.g. Document Status.

So the hierarchy is:

All Plans (document library)

Plan 1  (custom content type that inherits from Document Set but also has a "Plan Type" attribute)

Plan Document   (custom content type that inherits from Document but also has a "Document Status" attribute

When I click on the document library, I want to see all the folders (e.g. Plan 1) where one of the columns will be "Plan Type"

When I click on an individual Plan (e.g. Plan 1) I want to see the contents of that custom document set.  At this point, since this page shows contents of one document set, I want to see the column "Document Status" but NOT Plan Type since Plan Type applies to the document set as a whole, not to an individual item in that document set.

However, I don't think I have it set up correctly because right now the "Plan Type" column is visible both on the list of all document sets AND on the page that shows the contents of one document set.

I've found a discussion on this topic here:

http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/61565/how-can-i-set-a-custom-default-view-for-a-document-set

where one person said "When you click on a Document Set content type in library settings, one of the options is "Document Set settings". The last option in this dialogue allows you to select a defined view on the library that will be used to show the contents of that Document Set."  I don't see that view selection.  The last item on the document set settings page is "Update List and Site Content Types".  The field before that is for customizing the Welcome page.  However, I don't want to customize the Welcome Page as a whole, I just want to customize the columns that are displayed on the list of content of this document set.

thanks

Intel Dual core with Hyperthreading = 4 Cores?

Hello all,

I'm looking to purchase a laptop that I'll install a development SharePoint installation on. I understand I need 4 cores per https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262485(v=office.15).aspx.

Would Intel dual core with hyperthreading be sufficient?

Can we disable the ability for users to sites and subsites in their SharePoint 365 Profile Site?

$

We have plans to roll out a hybrid SharePoint with our profiles in the Cloud. Does anyone know if it is possible to disable the ability for users to create sites under their Profile site in the cloud? As it stands out of the box, it looks like every user can create as many sites as they want under their Profile. There is a concern that users will "self-service" their own solutions without going through the proper channels of governance. Has anyone had to deal with this or have experience on how to restrict this functionality? Thanks in advance! :)

Person or Group column problem

$

Hi, I have quite tricky problem with Person or Group column. We use that column in quite many places. When I create new item or edit list item properties I can find person just fine for example with lastname and choose it but when I save that item the persons name changes to someone else of our users.

What I noticed is that if I search person with beginning of their email address (firstname.lastname) everything is good even after I save the item. With some persons it works even if I find them with lastname.

Is there something to do with users ID in Site Collection hidden user information list vs User Profile Database?
Any ideas. Thank you.

Navigation Link failes : _layouts/15/AreaNavigationSettings.aspx fails to load on subsites

PROBLEM: The navigation link in Site Settings will only works on the root site. Any sub site I get the notorious "Sorry, something went wrong An unexpected error has occurred."  When I look at the logs I see the following that relate to the correlation ID below.  Any ideas on how to get Navigation working?

This was caused when I migrated sites from one farm to another and only if I created a new site collection and replaced the root site with one from the other farm.

What I've Tried:

I've done this on other site collections where I moved the sites but made them subsites and did not overwrite the root site and the navigation feature works fine.  Even sites where I didn't do a migration it worked great.

I've tried the following found at this link which seems to be the most popular solution but I've had no luck.https://praveenix.wordpress.com/2014/03/16/sharepoint-2013-left-navigation-and-top-navigation-bar-does-not-render-links-and-shows-error-an-error-occurred-while-rendering-navigation-for-requested-url/

Anyone have any ideas on how to get Navigation working?

Restore wss_content database from network farm to VM

$

Hi

Here is my set up: We have a SharePoint 2013 farm on our network. An extranet solution is being developed by a third party which they are deploying to this server. We have a bespoke Contact Management system that has some integration with our existing SharePoint 2007 extranet. I need to test the integration process also works with the new 2013 extranet. I have therefore set up a couple of VMs - one local domain controller and one the runs the CMS and current extranet. The third party have sent me a copy of their SharePoint development VM which is it's own DC. I have set up a trust between the two domains.

I need to update my local SharePoint 2013 VM with the latest solution/content from the farm on our network. The third party have suggested doing a backup and restore using Central Admin. However, I am having problems restoring the wss_content database and get a message that says 'The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication'

The account I am using for the import in the VM is a Farm Administrator, the account the Central Admin application pool is running under and is sysadmin on the database.

Any suggestions on what I could try would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Some users can Drag and Drop onto the screen. Others can't??

I've noticed on SP 2013 that some users can drag and drop right into the doc library while others don't have that option.  They all have the same permissions.  Is there a Windows setting or something not installed that could be different on these machines?

The ones that CAN have "+New Document / OR drag files here"  . the ones who cannot only have +New Document.

SP2013 User Profile Exclusion Filter for Users - exclude inactive accounts

On my User Profile Sharepoint 2013 Exclusion Filter for Users, I currently use  both filters "userAccountControl bit on eqauls 12" OR "userAccountControl Bit on equals 17" however, inactive accounts employees that no longer in the company are still included in the import. Any idea? Are there any filters missing?

Updated Site Zones and AAM - Now Social features URLs are wrong... Sometimes?

$

0

So we just deployed the following SharePoint sites into production with the default site extended to the Extranet zone as followed:

Default - https://share.domain.com:444 - NTLM Auth

Extranet - https://share.domain.com - ADFS\SAML Claims Auth

Default - https://my.domain.com:444 - NTLM Auth

Extranet - https://my.domain.com - ADFS\SAML Claims

Default - https://search.domain.com:444 - NTLM Auth

Extranet - https://search.domain.com - ADFS\SAML Claims

The default zone is used for search only while all users access SharePoint through the Extranet zone. Search works fine when looking for documents and people. My issues start showing up in the social features.

For instance, if I click on the "Sites" link in the top bar I see the sites I follow along with the suggested sites. The URLs for the sites I follow are correct. However, the Suggested Sites all return the Default Zone URL. When I follow a document or site however, the URL is always of the Default zone in my activity feed. Alerts for new content use the Default zone in the email; yet alerts for sharing approval use the correct Extranet zone. To top it off if I search for anything on any of the sites, the URLs are correct for the zone I am in. Now here is the real crazy part. We have the same configuration in a Test domain deployment and everything works perfectly!?

Any ideas? The only thing different is that production goes through an F5 for both internal and external access. While test goes through a reverse proxy for external access and internal access goes straight to the WFE server.

Webpart Title and Border Does not Work

$

The Chrome type "title and border" does not display the title or border on webparts. The problem is trivially reproduced:

1. Create a new blank site.

2. Add a webpart to it. Not important which one.

3. Change the chrome to title and border.

4. Apply the changes and save.

5. Note the absence of title or border.

Try changing the chrome type to either title or border and they work individually but together they do nothing. I have seen others report this issue of various forums but never a resolution. This worked in 2010 and does not work in 2013. I am using IE 11 but it also didn't work with older versions of IE.

I was perusing events on Domain Controller and there are thousands of event 4769 in the Security logs. The Client Address is that of our SharePoint Server using the account name for our farm. As far as I can tell all the services are running on the SharePoint server so I am unsure why it is "Audit Failure." Everything seems to be working though I would love to abate events as it shows in logs every 55 seconds and logs 11 times in a second. That's more than 15000 in a day.
