Sharepoint 2013 - Cannot create site collection

Hello,

I am trying to create a site collection but I'm not succesfull.

I created a web application.

In the user policy of the webapp I gave the administrator Full controll and full read privileges

(All zoneswin-sharep2013\administratori:0#.w|win-sharep2013\administrator Full Control, Full Read

I create the site collection choosing the correct webapplication, as Primary site collection administrator I chose the administrator.

But when I click on Ok I get an awful: "Sorry this site hasn't been shared with you"

I checked on the events log but I couldn't find anything.

I tried instructions found on another post:

$wa = Get-SPWebApplication -Identity "MY URL"
$wa.MigrateUsers($true)

but they couldn't help.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much!

Definition of Status property of a SharePoint Site Collection

Hi community,

when getting a site collection via a PowerShell command (Get-SPOSite / Get-SPSite), it returns a property called "Status" among others, which in my case is always "Active". But for what is it good for? I didn't find any definition of this property, neither via search nor via MSDN.

What values could this property have and how does a different status than "Active" influence the behavior of this site collection (is it still accessible, ...)?

Many thanks in advance and best regards
Christian

SharePoint 2013 Labeling deprectaed

Hello,

we are using Label in "Information management policy settings" for libraries to show the document version inside office documents  with "{Version}".

This feature seems to be deprecated in SharePoint 2013: https://support.office.com/en-US/Article/Discontinued-features-and-modified-functionality-in-Microsoft-SharePoint-2013-bbbb0815-2538-4f1d-b647-1f7f6d508c93?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US

Is there another supported way to show the document version from the list inside of an office document?

Thanks, Rainer

SharePoint 2013 - Permissions on People Picker?

$

I have a SharePoint list with several columns with the People or Group data type. A member of the site can open a list item fine, they will see people listed in those columns. However if they were to edit that item, those people listed in the people picker columns disappear even if they created that item themselves. Now take an Owner of the site, if they edit that same item, the people do not disappear. Obviously this is a permission issue, in the User Profile Service Application I have all authenticated users set to "Follow People and Edit Profile". Any help would be appreciated.

Ramifications for resetting Sharepoint 2013 Farm PassPhrase. How will it effect other parts of the Sharepoint Server?

$

Hi All,

We had an employee who no longer works for us set up our initial Sharepoint 2013 server. The intent was to put it into a farm with a second Sharepoint 2013 server that would be built at a later date. However, while he was setting up the server he did not correctly document the Farm PassPhrase. Now I am in the process of building the second Sharepoint 2013 server to add to the farm. I got to the point where it asks for the PassPhrase and found out the hard way he did not document the correct PassPhrase. So now I am stuck resetting the PassPhrase from the Sharepoint cmdlet. Which is fine, but the Sharepoint server the now ex-employee set up is actively being used and has data on it we do not want to corrupt or lose. So my question is.... If I use the cmdlet to change the PassPhrase on the first Sharepoint server what all will it effect? Do I need to go in and change anything anywhere else? Is it going to cause parts of Sharepoint to no longer be able to connect with our SQL server, or anything else?

Kindest Regards!

Load balancing host named site collection

$

I am jumping into the realm of host named site collection. While the learning experience has been good, still there are some questions unanswered. Please bare patience since my questions are long.

- I have a non host header site on port 80 that has https certificate added to IIS for supporting app store in https mode.

- I tried to created the host name site collection using https in this default port 80 non host header web application and was greeted with error. Then i extended the web app to different  zone with port 443 . Then created the host header site collection with https with web application name for extended 443 one. Creation went in fine.

- I tired to use IPs on now extended IIS site and bind certificates on that one. The site does not load. I do the same again in the default zone iss site, bind ips on that one and site loads. Now question is even though host header site collection was created using extended web application url , why binding had to be done on default zone IIS site?

- Second test, i changed the authentication mode for extended, no effect on host named site collection but as soon as i changed it in default zone it reflected in host named site collection. I am confused why it needs extended zone url to create the https site but every change done in default zone is getting reflected on this host named site collection.

Now for load balancing , it works fine with IP? But how to load balance these host named site collection using url. I talked with f5 team and they said i need to send some reply query string from each site. Where do i do that? Or is it even needed?

Accoring to this link : https://devcentral.f5.com/articles/name-based-virtual-hosting-with-ltm

. If the site hosts an application, though, the monitor should request a dynamic page on each webserver which forces a transaction with the application to verify its health and returns a specific phrase upon success. For application monitoring, the recommended best practice is to create such a script specific to your application, configure the monitor Send string to call that script, and set the Receive string to match that phrase.

Has any one done this before? I tired to search for resource regarding this for iis or sharepoint but was not able to get anything.

Thank you for your patience for reading such a long question.

Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper Error during SharePoint 2013 install using Hyper-V on Windows 8.1

Client Machine

Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

SQL Server 2012 (11.0.2100.60)

Hosted on Windows 8.1 Hyper-V

Doing a SharePoint Install and during the install (very near completion) I get:

Microsoft Setup Bootstrapper has stopped working

Error log shows the ugly:

2014/01/07   13:36:12:444::[3648] MSI(INFO): 'Action start 13:36:12: ArpWrite.'

2014/01/07   13:36:12:444::[3648] MSI(INFO): 'CustomActionArpWrite returned actual   error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation   happened inside sandbox)'

2014/01/07   13:36:12:444::[3648] MSI(INFO): 'Action ended 13:36:12: ArpWrite. Return value   3.'

2014/01/07   13:36:12:444::[3648] MSI(INFO): 'Action ended 13:36:12: INSTALL. Return value   3.'

...

...SharePoint\global\oserver.MSI   ErrorCode: 1603(0x643).

A couple of posts seemed related:

I have had a few virtual machines that built fine... one I’ve been using to test with works about 33% of the time and fails with the same error other times. I have tweaked the RAM and the # of Virtual Procs and nothing seems to consistently fix it.  Specifically I've disabled dynamic memory, set the RAM to 8GB and the number of procs to 4. I've also downloaded the SharePoint ISO from multiple sources (MSDN/TechNet/Trial) thinking the installer was possibly corrupt - same issue.

At this point I'm thinking it is either an issue with Hyper-V on Windows 8.1 + SharePoint or else something specific to my hardware but it is terribly hard to troubleshoot an error that is intermittent. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

How to remove user profiles? SharePoint 2013 User Profiles

Hello,

I did a full import of user profiles, but there were some unwanted user profiles.  So, I went to edit the user profile synchronization connection and deselected the profiles.  I did a full import again, but the ones I deselected still show up in the manage user profiles.  How to get rid of these that I deselected?

Thanks for your advice.

Trouble Shooting Usage Reports for SharePoint 2013 Farm (Error: Something went wrong)

$

0

Background: the SharePoint Server 2013 Standard SP1 on a multiple server farm, 2 WFEs, and two ASs.

The Usage and Health Data Collection Service Application was set up using a PowerShell script.  The Health report part is working since the beginning.  However, when accessing any usage reports, namely "popularity trends", under Search Service Application, Site Collections, Sites, and Libraries, it always returns "Error: Sorry, something went wrong. An unexpected error has occured" when one try to download a report file.   A Correlation ID is always provided, but offer little information for exactly where we should look up. (See the end of this message.)

So far we have checked the following items:

1. The Usage and Health Service Application and its proxy has been created and started.

2. The associated Usage and Health database is running and has a healthy size, several GB.

3. Under CA->Monitoring->Configure usage adn health data collection, "Enable usage data collection" checked.  Log File location exists in all servers.  But only has an ".ini" file under each subfolders here.

4. Under CA->Monitoring->Review job definations, "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import" was set "Minutes", "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing" was set "Disabled". Has since updated to "Hourly".

5. Under CA->Monitoring->Check job status, "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import" was reported "suceeded" for all servers.  but for "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing" only repored suceeded from two Applications Servers, not from the WFEs.  (Although under "Scheduled", the WFEs are also listed with Scheduled job.")

6.  Under Management Shell, "Get-SPUsageDefinition" shows there is no "Receivers" set for any entries; so "EnableReceivers" are all set to "False".   Based on the scripted provided in http ://geekswithblogs.net/bjackett/archive/2013/08/26/powershell-script-to-workaround-no-data-in-sharepoint-2013-usage.aspx, we have turned on the receiver for the entries of "Analytics Usage" and "Page Requests".  But not for anything else yet.

Here is a typical segment of the error log obtained using "Merge-SPlogFiles" with corellation id provided:

How to install Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2013?

I'm currently running on a single server instance of SharePoint Server 2013 RTM (15.0.4420.1017) and Project Server 2013 (no sure if CU's for sharepoint will affect this).

I would like to install SP1 on my SharePoint server. Does anyone know of any in-depth step by step guides I could follow?

Thanks

How to Setup Kerberos Authentication for SharePoint App Domain

How are we supposed to configure kerberos for the SharePoint apps?

I have an environment set up with three web applications using host headers on port 80:

DNS entries all point to my web front end server, and I have configured SPN's appropriately and set everything up so that at Kerberos authentication is all working.

We are now developing SharePoint 2013 apps and wanting to deploy them to our environment. We have a further wildcard DNS entry *.mycorpapps pointing also to the WFE server.  This is set as the app domain in central administration.

The apps install, but when we then go to view the app we are prompted for credentials.  Should I be setting a wildcard SPN (is that possible)?

Something like: SETSPN -A HTTP/*.mycorpapps mydomain\app-pool-service-account

Also, because we are using host-headers on port 80, I had to setup a web application (with a blank team site) on port 80 with no host header, to even get IIS to respond to requests for SharePoint apps. Is this where we should instead be using host-named site collections?

Thanks for any help,

Richard

Unexpected exception in FeedCacheService.IsRepopulationNeeded: Communications with the cache cluster has experienced a delay

Hello All

I'm seeking assistance with a specific error that is logged every 5 minutes, I have come across similar posts online but none that provide a definite solution.

Please do not direct me to this link or this link as I have already had a look.

I see the following error on my Application Server, the AppFabric caching service is running and has been running for a while, so are the Forefront services.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Public updates vs. cumulative updates

All Enterprise Keyword options are greyed out

I just did a migration from SPO to SP13 on-prem. When I go in, I can see the keywords have been moved over, but the area to add them is greyed out. I went into the options for one of the libraries, and checked the Enterprise Keyword settings, and it is enabled, but also greyed out. Thoughts?

Can I install or deploy a developer's app without an app catalog or apps enabled?

I have an app which is available in the SharePoint app store. Our SharePoint environment is hosted by an external vendor, and APPs functionality has not been set up. In order for them to set it up will cost us money we can't afford - we are a charitable organisation. I contacted the app developer and he has kindly provided the app and removed license checks, but I don't know how to make the app available in the SharePoint site where I want to use it.

I did create an APP Catalog and uploaded the app, but when I attempt to add it (From Your Organization) to the I the site where I want it I get the "Sorry, apps are turned off...." message.

I am a farm admin, but I don't have the access to create DNS forwarders etc.

Is it possible to deploy an app without all the DNS forwarding and APP domain setup etc?
