SP licence enforcement not working when using domain local groups

$

I've enabled licencing using the Powershell from the link below and mapped it to a domain local group with a Standard parameter

I was expecting to find that when I removed the user from that group they would no longer be able to access SharePoint. However they are still able to access their sites

Am I missing something? Shouldn't licence enforcement mean that they can't logon anymore?

Please advise

Cheers

AAM for Host named site collection>

I have non-host header web application at port 80:http://wwwserver

It is AAM to https://wwwserver in same zone.

Now when i create host named site collection using http it works fine

New-SPSite http://hostheader.site.com/ -OwnerAlias domain\username -HostHeaderWebApplication http://wwwserver -Template "STS#0"

But when i do

New-SPSite https://hostheader.site.com/ -OwnerAlias domain\username -HostHeaderWebApplication https ://wwwserver -Template "STS#0" i get error Warning: The port specified for the new host header site does not match any known bindings in the specified web appplication . The new site will not be accessible if the web application is not extended to an IIS web site serving this port.

Now when i try to extend web application on port 443 it says it is already used by sharepoint. I do not want to screw aam since all my app store urls are configured through https://wwwserver. Any way to achieve https in host named site collection?

Sharepoint 2013 - Word Automation Services Error code 10

I'm trying to convert docx in pdf . I'm using Powershell script .

In WAS db Error Code returned is 10 . In Event Log error is 8317 for sharePoint Foundation Application .

Has someone resolved this issue ?

Failed to connect to the configuration database. Error during decryption. (SP 2013)

So we had to remove the WFE from a 2 node WFE/1 SQL db Farm and after resintalling SharePoint 2013 and Project server 2013.

We cannot join the WFE1 back into the domain, and the farm is running on WFE2.

Error:

  1. I followed the steps to reset the Farm password and aftewrwared timer and SP Admin services have been restarted.
  2. The installation account has dbo and security rights on the Config database.
  3. The SQL DB alias is working properly on the failing node.

I don't want to create a new config db if possible and prefer joining it back to the existing farm.

(why does it accept the passphrase first but lateron complains that it cannot decrypt it?)

Any help is appreciated

Cannot create PowerPivot or Excel Service - Cannot add the specified assembly to the global assembly cache: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddin.dll

Hey everyone!

Well our SP Admin quit sometime ago and I have been tasked with creating our new farm and moving over the content.

Things were moving along uneventfully until we looked to configure PowerPivot and Excel Services. I am receiving an error

"Failure while running action: Deploy Farm Solution" with the error "Cannot add the specified assembly to the global assembly cache: Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddin.dll" when running the PowerPivot Configuration Tool.

I am get another very similar error when I try to manually create the Excel Service, basically it fails on the GetTypes for the same dll.

We have a 5 server farm, 1 App Server, 1 WFE, 1 DB, 1 Search and 1 for BI(Excel, SRSS and PowerPivot).

Our SQL instance is SQL 2012 SP2 and we are up to date on service packs/patches.

I have tried most of the fixes - Timer Service restart and IIS Reset, Refreshing the SP Registry, Running as Admin, the running user is a Farm Admin and Local Admin.

At this point I am not sure what is left. Some help please?

User Profile Sync Service Refuses to Start

Thanks to a recent patch issue from August (we lag 30 days behind) one of the patches broke our User Profile Service (SP2013 SP1).  The first thing I noticed on the server was with the FIM Services, is they were now set to disabled so I set them back to automatic.  The Farm account has all of the local admin and log on locally rights needed, but I just cannot get the Sync Service Instance to start.

Once it fails, the FIM services go back to disabled in the Service Applet.  I have deleted the FIM Certificates in the Trusted Root Store, but is there another place where this could be an issue?  2010 didn't seem to have this issue.

We have 2xAPP & 2XWFE and the Sync Service is set to run on the 2nd WFE.  I inherited this so don't ask me why things were done the way they were.

Any tips or tricks, outside of blowing away the UPS would be appreciated.

SharePoint 2013 - Office web apps intermittent issue

From past few weeks we are seeing issue while opening the documents from sites error message says “Sorry something went wrong + An unexpected error occur on the Server”.  This happens with individual users accounts(Since it is expected behavior with Service account for Office web Apps). After identifying on which server we are seeing the issue we are performing theIIS reset on that effected Server and then issue will resolve but after a week or 10 days this is repeated again.    If anyone has seen this issue in(SP2013+OWA) please share your inputs for permanent fix.

SharePoint Search

I have created a SharePoint Server Search application on a SharePoint 2013 farm. I created the service using a generic Service Application domain account "domain\sp_serviceapp".

I then changed the default content access account to "domain\sp_contentaccess", a dedicated crawl account.

I then changed the "Windows Service - SharePoint Server Search" service to use a dedicated service account "domain\sp_searchsrv" (it had defaulted to the the farm account).

Now I  keep getting event log errors on the SharePoint Servers that say the domain\sp_searchsrv account cannot connect to the SharePoint Configuration database because of permissions.

My understanding is that when one assigns the "Windows Service - SharePoint Server Search" from the "Configure Service Accounts" page that the new search service account would be added to the "WSS_Content_Application_Pool" database role on the both the SharePoint Admin and SharePoint Admin Content databases automatically, but it has not.

Can anyone explain what, if any, permissions the "Windows Service - SharePoint Server Search" dedicated account needs in SQL, should it be in the "WSS_Content_Application_Pool" database role for both SharePoint Admin Content and SharePoint Config databases or not?

EDIT
#####

After reading this post: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=391 I've come to the conclusion that a dedicated "Windows Service - SharePoint Server Search" is probably not required and that I should probably revert the account back to the default account used which on my set up which was the farm account. The documentation around search configuration is weak in relation to this service and what best practise might be.

Calculated field needs two values to filter

Hello,

a list has a calculated field (=TEXT(date1,"yyyy") ) as a string .  In allitems.aspx, if a choose year 2010 it doesn't anything. If I choose 2010 and then 1985, it shows all the items with year 2010. If I choose 1985 and then 2010, it shows all the items with year 1985!

Any ideas?

Thank you

health analyzer throwing error missing server side dependencies

Health Analyzer is throwing an error on a site that was migrated from a 2010 farm to this 2013 farm. How do I identify which feature/solution this error is referencing and how do I deleted it?

[MissingSetupFile] File [Features\FT-01-060f355e-f0de-3a4e-52e2-e5e93daac49d\solution.xsn] is referenced [1] times in the database [WSS_Content], but exists only under Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 setup folder. Consider upgrading the feature/solution which contains this file to the latest version. One or more setup files are referenced in the database [WSS_Content], but are not installed on the current farm. Please install any feature or solution which contains these files.

User profile sync computing membership in SP2013

$

My starting point for this question is this article which I've used in the past on our 2010 farm to repair stale memberships:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2703630/en-gb

We have since migrated to 2013 but retained the 2010 'look and feel' for now until that side of migration work is complete. Since migration, the membership web parts do not update to reflect membership changes, new memberships, or remove old memberships.

When running the script in the article above, it errors on the first step

get-member : No object has been specified to the get-member cmdlet.
At line:19 char:28+ $memberGroup | get-member+ ~~~~~~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : CloseError: (:) [Get-Member], InvalidOperationException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : NoObjectInGetMember,Microsoft.PowerShell.Commands.GetMemberCommand

I have a suspicion that memberships just don't work in 2013 as they did in 2010 - would this be right? Can anyone confirm or assist before I embark on a google mission?

Thanks

SharePoint 2013 - Administrator Approved Form Template gives Missing Server Side Dependencies error

$

Good morning

We have been having this issue for the past few weeks now and I have been unable to resolve it. Hopefully somebody is able to assist

We have a SharePoint 2013 Farm running with a SQL 2012 database. We are getting a configuration error 'Missing Server Side Dependencies'. Initially there were lots of items listed under this error (MissingWebPart etc). Everything else has been easy to clean up with the exception of this one error:

[MissingSetupFile] File [Features\FT-01-22643a93-f035-2962-79aa-50a8c014c821\solution.xsn] is referenced [1] times in the database [WSS_Content], but exists only under Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010 setup folder. Consider upgrading the feature/solution which contains this file to the latest version. One or more setup files are referenced in the database [WSS_Content], but are not installed on the current farm. Please install any feature or solution which contains these files.

This error is caused an Administrator approved infopath form template that has been activated to a site collection. We can get rid of the error message by de-activating the form template and Reanalyzing the Missing Server side dependencies error - the problem with go away. However as soon we reactivate any form template to a site collection (it can be a brand new form) the missing server side dependencies error will return upon Reanalysis of the Missing Server side dependencies item. The frustrating thing is the activated form works perfectly in the site collection, its just this error persists under monitoring.

We use Infopath 2010, but also tried using Infopath 2013, uploading a brand new empty form each time. We have also built a seperate SharePoint 2013 farm. As soon as any admin approved form is uploaded and enabled in any farm, this error will appear in the farm.

I couldnt see this particular error listed in any of the cumulative updates for SharePoint 2013, so we have not applied any CU's to our Farms

The easy solution would just be to remove the form template and not have any administrator approved forms in our farm, or we could disable the Missing server side dependencies configuration item, bu twe dont really want to do eitehr of these - there must be a better solution. If anyone can assist to fix this error it will be most appreciated.

regards

James

Sharepoint 2010 Workflow on SP 2013 cloud Workflow

$

Hi I have just started working as the SP and DB Admin. SP 2010 migration to 2013 Cloud through a vendor occurred before I came onboard. The workflow is setup up to assign a task to user (The user is pulled from AD). The problem that is occurring is the users aren't being pulled from AD the first time it's coming as an error, ( you can go in and manually put the user name and email in and it will catch), then when you go to e-mail the assigned users, they aren't receiving emails... however if you cc someone they will receive e-mails.

Any help is appreciated.

I can submit a picture if need be.

Cannot Activate Site Collection Publishing

$

We have one web application with multiple site collections underneath. The top level site, sp2, does have SharePoint Server Publishing active. I am also able to activate the same feature on other site collections, except for two of them. So we have our central admin, sp2 - underneath sp2 we have the following site collections (which all fall under /sites/):

- HR

- Company

- Collaboration

Now on the HR site, publishing is active. However if I attempt to activate it on either the company or collaboration site, I get the following:

Site

The feature being activated is a Site scoped feature which has a dependency on a Site Collection scoped feature which has not been activated. Please activate the following feature before trying again: SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure f6924d36-2fa8-4f0b-b16d-06b7250180fa

Web

The Site scoped feature being activated has a dependency on hidden Site scoped feature 'FeatureDefinition/15/22a9ef51-737b-4ff2-9346-694633fe4416' (ID: '22a9ef51-737b-4ff2-9346-694633fe4416'). Hidden features cannot be auto-activated across scopes. There may be one or more visible Site scoped features that auto-activate the dependent hidden feature.

Web

The Site scoped feature being activated has a dependency on hidden Site scoped feature 'FeatureDefinition/15/dffaae84-60ee-413a-9600-1cf431cf0560' (ID: 'dffaae84-60ee-413a-9600-1cf431cf0560'). Hidden features cannot be auto-activated across scopes. There may be one or more visible Site scoped features that auto-activate the dependent hidden feature.

What am I missing? I am the Primary site collection administrator or the company site. For the HR and Collaboration site I am the Secondary site collection administrator. I am not sure that makes any difference, but I am not sure what else I need to look for in order to activate this feature. Please help!

Any Benefit to having User Profile Service on more than one server

$

I have an application that uses UPSA and UPSS, the User profile Service and Sync Service are started on the same server

Is there any point in having the User Profile Service started on a second server for redundancy.

I understand that a UP Sync Service can only be associalted with one User Profile Service Application

Can I make my User profile Service Fault tolerant by starting the service  on more than one server?

I am not looking to create  a second Use Profile Service Application to have seperate DB's and things

Just to have User Profile still avaialble when the serevr hosting it has an issue

Good Day,

I am trying to install SharePoint 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2. When I clicked on Splash.hta, visual studio is opening but it is suppose to open SharePoint 2013 wizard (Blue wizard), using that wizard we normally install prerequisites and after that we install SharePoint 2013.

Kindly please suggest me.

Thanks in advance
