How to access site collection with a different name?

$

Hello,

I have a web application with an URL like http://testsite.  And, it has a site collection named http://testsite.

Can I have another site collection using the same web application like http://testsite/site and use alternative access mappings to map it to http://companysite?

Is this possible?

Thanks

Distributed cache

HI,

We have a server (Server 1), on which the status of the Distributed cache was in "Error Starting" state.
While applying a service pack due to some issue we were unable to apply the path (Server 1) so we decided to remove the effected server from the farm and work on it. the effected server (Server 1) was removed from the farm through the configuration wizard.

Even after running the configuration wizard we were still able to see the server (Server 1) on the SharePoint central admin site (Servers in farm) when clicked, the service "Distributed cache" was still visible with a status "Error Starting", tried deleting the server from the farm and got an error message, the ULS logs displayed the below.

..................................................................................................................................................

..................................................................................................................................................

We are unable to perform any operation install/repair of SharePoint on the effected server (Server 1), as the server is no longer in the farm, we are unable to run any powershell commands.

Questions:-

What would cause that to happen?
Is there a way to resolve this issue? (please provide the steps)

Backup strategy advice using AOAGs and DPM and SharePoint OOB tools

$

Hi

I am trying to create a backup strategy that will enable me to failover to a DR farm in the event of a disaster

I need to backup Content DBs, Service applications, Web Applications and File system locations

We are using AOAGs - the plan for content is to use DPM to backup from a secondary replica in the DR datacenter

Can also use DPM for the file system locations (15hive, GAC, ULS logs etc) but what about Service Applications? We can also backup the service application databases from the replica - but do I also need to backup the Service application proxies (must be done by Central admin/PowerShell)? Or can I restore to the DR farm just by attaching the Service App DBs and then creating new service apps pointing to the DBs (will that even work?)?

Web Application backups - The SharePoint tools (GUI and PowerShell) don't allow a config only backup which means either backing up all the Web apps and their content DBs to a network share (size, performance implications etc) - or nothing. By nothing I mean creating empty Web applications in the DR farm with the same configuration as the Primary and in the event of disaster attaching the restored Content DBs to the relevant web applications - again though, will that work?

What is the best way of ensuring that if we lose the Primary farm - we can not just recover the data but also ensure that the service applications also work as expected

At the moment I am thinking of using DPM to back up all the Databases except Search, use SharePoint to backup the Service app proxies and create empty web applications in the DR farm -

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers

J

Fields missing from Azure AD sync in to SharePoint Online

$

Hi all,

I'm currently experiencing some problems with the sync between Azure AD and SharePoint Online, but only for users that have been created in Azure AD (users created within our on-prem AD and then synced to Azure AD are fine).

The main field we've noticed that isn't working is the 'work email' field and as no email addresses are being copied across SharePoint alerts don't function.

Initially I thought this due to our users not have Exchange emails (therefore using the alternate email address field) but this doesn't seem to make any difference.

Comparing a Azure AD user account with a synced Local account on screen or with PowerPoint show's all the relevant information in the right place.

I have also tried to add a new mapping within the SharePoint profile but I have nothing listed in my source data connections to add.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Darren

Where does the search service expect to build its index?

$

I installed SP 2013 on a non-system drive.

When I installed SP 2007 and 2010, I also had to specify that logs and search indexs were to be built on the non-system drive, but it was really simple - just a few mouse clicks - to do so.

When I am installing the SP 2013 search service, I don't see any way to modify the topology so that I can specify that the index should be built on the non-system drive.

When I try searching the web, I see various powershell scripts of 20-40 lines of code that claim to be needed to do this.

Surely I am missing something obvious.

It seems so obvious to me that if I install SP 2013 on a D: drive, then the D: drive should be where logs and indexing goes - and if I want it on a different non-system drive, there should be a simple way to accomplish that.

I am hoping that my searches have once again led me astray, missing the simple answer.

Can someone help me find the simple way to accomplish there?

Thank you!

In attempting to move a wiki page into a folder located in the same folder as the page, user receives error "cannot be moved or copied onto itself or one of its branches." When I attempt to do so, as the farm administrator, I receive the same error.  When I use the farm's service account, it works fine.  Help?

SharePoint Server SP1 installation- Error related to workflow

$

This is what I did on my SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 app server ,1 web server and 1 database server

We Installed the below in the same order.

  • Installed SharePoint Server 2013 Service Pack 1(KB2880552 april release)
  • ran PSCONFIG on both app and web servers
  • Installed Workflow Manager CU1 (KB2799752)
  • Installed Service Bus CU1 (KB2799754)
  • Re-registered SharePoint Workflow Proxy.
  • Restarted all Servers

I  get this below error when I navigate to a document library , upload a doc, select it and click on "Workflow" ribbon  button which loads workflow.aspx.

(error occurs even if there are workflows attached to that document library)

Method 'StartWorkflowOnListItem' in type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.FabricWorkflowInstanceProvider' from assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not have an implementation.

SharePoint 2013: clicking on list item Workflows link returns error

$

I discovered that, after installing the August 2014 PU, that when users clicked on the Workflows link, on a list item popup, that an error was displayed rather than the Workflows page.  This was the error:

Method 'StartWorkFlowOnListUItem' in type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.FabricWorkflowInstanceProvider' from assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not have an implementation.

I don't know if this error manifested itself prior to this update, since I didn't check for it.  In any case, I then researched this error and found a TechNet posting that addressed exactly this issue: SharePoint Server SP1 installation- Error related to workflow.  According to this posting, the error is resolved by installing UpdateKB2880963.  So, I installed it on my development farm, which mirrors production.  Prior to installing the update, the Workflow Solutions Framework component build number was 15.0.4571.1502.

After installing KB2880963 on the WFE (there's only one, presently), clicking on the Workflows link returned this error:

File Not Found.

and the Workflow Solutions Framework component build number was 15.0.4615.1001.  I performed an IISreset, but this didn't resolve the error.  I ran the Products Configuration Wizard, but this also didn't resolve the problem.

I would be grateful if someone could present a solution or workaround: presently, my users do not have access to list Workflows pages.

These are the ULS entries for the error:

SharePoint 2013 Service Accounts

$

Hi All,

SharePoint Service Accounts are controlled by a vendor. Vendors are bit reluctant to assign multiple service accounts.

However, SharePoint requires a couple of service accounts and I sent them, minimum 3 service accounts for SharePoint

  1. sp_farm (Windows Timer Service, Central Admin and User Profile service)
  2. sp_sql (SQL Server Service account)
  3. sp_install (or sp_admin) ( for installing lay SharePoint binaries)

They are asking to install sp_farm account can used to install SharePoint.

I know its not correct, but can SP_FARM account used to install SharePoint server?

Q: What implications to server if I use SP_FARM account and not SP_Admin (SP_Install).

I always follow Todd blog http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=391

What advise should tell them as them manager the servers?

Thanks for your help.

How can I update Workflow Manager Farm OutboundCertificate?

$

0

So I followed the steps written on http://www.harbar.net/articles/wfm3.aspx to update invalid certificates on a Workflow Manager Farm, everything went as Mr. Harbar's post said it would, but then I noticed that the Workflow Farm provides options for changing only theSslCertificate and the EncryptionCertificate and not theOutboundCertificate, ultimately leaving it unchanged.

My challenges are:

  1. Find a way to update the OutboundCertificate on the Workflow Farm without having to delete all databases (which by the way seems the only option left) or
  2. Understand why the OutboundCertificate is not meant to be changed (or in which case expect it'll never expire) or
  3. Get to know the best practice for this type of configuration.

Thank you in advance.

Emilio.

PS: Service Bus Farm certificates, 2 in total, updated flawlessly.

What permission does the Service account requires on AD for the Workflow manager 1.0 to be configured in SharePoint Farm?

The workflow manager configuration wizard crashes with the below error when used a domain account (setup account with full prvilige on sql and server). It requires some specific permissions on AD ? I couldnt see any documentation stating what permission it requires.

Can anyone help ?

How to set PicturePasteDisabled to false in Office Web Apps Farm

I'm sure this is probably something super trivial. But I have several farms that have PicturePasteDisabled set to true. This was not defined during the creation of the farm. I'm trying to set it to false. Specifying -PicturePasteDisabled:$false doesn't show an error, but doesn't change it, either. I've tried $null as well. Am I missing something?

Work Management Service (WMS) Application on mulit-farms

Hi guys,

Is there any limitation for configuration the Work Management Service (WMS) Application on multi-farms?

I have 2 farms – farm A hosts all SAs and farm B hosts only web contents.

I understand there is dependency between WMS and search and UPS. Does that mean I cannot deploy my WMS on farm A?

Thanks

Access External List with SharePoint 2013 Workflow

In a SP 2010 designer workflow you could access/update an SQL table using an External List (ECT).

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff394479(v=office.14).aspx

When I attempt to do the same thing in an SP 2013 workflow the External Lists don't show up in the Data Source drop down. Steps:

  1. Create a test SQL table
  2. Using SP Designer 2013, create an External Content Type with all operations (Create, Read Item...)
  3. Create an External List from the test ECT
  4. Using SP Designer 2013 create a list workflow (against a standard SP list i.e. a task list)
  5. Add a Create item or Update item action
  6. Click 'this list' and look for the External List using the List drop down
  7. Issue: the External List is not in the List drop down

I can't find any references to this feature being deprecated in 2013.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

The Secure Store Service application Secure Store Service Proxy is not accessible

I am working on setting up a new SharePoint 2013 Farm for our external web site which is currently running on 2010 SharePoint. Because this is an External Website for our organization we have an internally available Publishing Site and there is an Web App Extension to provide Anon Access to users using the www address. Currently I am doing everything on a single server for testing with HOSTS entries to loop back so I can test with real host headers and not impact the 2010 prod environment. We will be setting up 2 more WFEs with a NLB before moving this into prod but it isn't there yet. We brought the Site Collection Databases over but are still running in 2010 mode for now.

I migrated a copy of the Secure Store Database over from 2010 and had it put on the 2013 Farm's Database Server. Set up Secure Store and the Secure Store Proxy. I went into the Secure Store Proxy in CA and refreshed the Key with the proper Pass Phrase. After doing that I could see the Target Application IDs listed. Everything was looking good so I went off to test. If I am on the publishing site I can go to a page that has the solution on it and it operates as expected. It does a query to a non SharePoint database and returns information filtered based on the search parameters. The only odd thing I see is if I click on the "Site Actions" I get a message "An error has occurred with the data fetch. Please refresh page and retry." Need to look into that more but it only happens on pages that have these solutions. Maybe a clue. If I go to the Anonymous Access page (www......) and try and use the solution, it immediately (way too quick to appear like it is doing anything) comes back with "The security token request cannot be completed."

If I dig through the usage logs I am finding the following.

The Secure Store Service application Secure Store Service Proxy is not accessible. The full exception text is: The security token request cannot be completed.

Unexpected exception from endpoint address : https://[Servername]:32844/4e87fd3aabb640fb8cc3ed52188cf5c0/SecureStoreService.svc/https

Logging unknown/unexpected client side exception: InvalidOperationException. This will cause this application server to be removed from the load balancer queue. Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: The security token request cannot be completed.    at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSecurityContext.SecurityTokenForServiceContext(Uri contextUri)     at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPChannelFactoryOperations.InternalCreateChannelActingAsLoggedOnUser[TChannel](ChannelFactory`1 factory, EndpointAddress address, Uri via)     at Microsoft.Office.SecureStoreService.Server.SecureStoreServiceApplicationProxy.GetChannel(Uri address)     at Microsoft.Office.SecureStoreService.Server.SecureStoreServiceApplicationProxy.Execute[T](String operationName, Boolean validateCanary, ExecuteDelegate`1 operation).

Initially I was fighting a firewall issue because it wasn't working (different errors) on both sides. Had Network Engineers open firewall ports needed and now it works on the publishing side. Still the same error on the Anon side. I suspect I have missed something when it comes to configuring the Secure Store to allow access to anonymous connections.

Let me know if you need any more information but that should paint a pretty good picture as to how things are set up.

Thanks for any help on this one. Searches haven't found much that has helped so far.

I basically followed http://www.pointbeyond.com/2012/12/31/surfacing-data-from-sql-azure-in-sharepoint-2013-online-office-365

Can you help me work out what i've not done, I don't know where to configure Azure firewall as this message suggests. The error is below:

Cannot connect to the LobSystem (External System). Reason: 'Cannot open server 'uf7prto4sj' requested by the login. Client with IP address '157.55.225.241' is not allowed to access the server. To enable access, use the Windows Azure Management Portal or run sp_set_firewall_rule on the master database to create a firewall rule for this IP address or address range. It may take up to five minutes for this change to take effect. Login failed for user '*REMOVED*'. This session has been assigned a tracing ID of '9389a67c-dc78-4134-9167-545ec963be3a'. Provide this tracing ID to customer support when you need assistance.'
