Sharepoint Contacts App - Permissions

Hi

Is there a way to change the permissions with the Sharepoint Contacts App?

We are looking to have fields available to view depending on permissions if possible?

E.G User 1 can view Name, Address, Postcode.  User 2 can view Name Address, Postcode, Phone Number and Email Address

Many Thanks

UserAgent not available \ The URL is invalid when uploading documents

I'm getting errors when uploading\checking in documents to a library.  I get the message:

The URL [url] is invalid. It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web.

But it's not a complete failure - The doc is uploaded, just not checked in.  I can go check it in and get the same message.

The ULS logs have 3 noteworthy messages

  • UserAgent not available, file operations may not be optimized
  • SQL error code from last error 8143 - Parameter '@tp_Author' was supplied multiple times
  • The URL [url] is invalid.  It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web.

Also, I'm having trouble creating a subsite.  I get the same 'UserAgent not available' message.  This goes away when I flush the blobcache using this powershell command, but it keeps reoccurring.

$webApp = Get-SPWebApplication "https://staging.url.com"
[Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.PublishingCache]::FlushBlobCache($webApp)

The most common cause of the 'Url is invalid' error of this sort is a lack of SQL space.  Please note that I've double and triple verified that I have adequate SQL Server space.

It seems that it's the UserAgent issue that needs to be addressed.  Any thoughts?  Here's the relevant logs (note that I've removed a few columns for readability)

Hi,

I was trying to install SharePoint server 2013 on a Windows 2012 R2 machine and found out that I could not.  The error message I am receiving is "• Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role: configuration error".

Does anybody know where I could dowload SharePoint 2013 with service pack 1 or some other workaround other than using Windows 2012?

thanks,

Sherazad

Change Content Type Hub URL -- AAM Configuration

$

Hello, we initially setup our SHarepoint Web Application with Default Zone URL https://sharepoint2.contoso.com. We created a Content Type Hub and configured the URL https://sharepoint2.contoso.com/...... in the Managed Metadata Service Application.

We now changed the URL for the Default Zone to http://sharepoint.contoso.com and the last thing to change now is the URL of the content type hub.

My Question is what exactly will happen when i set the new HUBURI with powershell?

We have published the content types from the hub with the old URL to many site collections and are using them for over 1.000.000 documents. I want to ensure that there will be no impact on the existing content types. Will there be any impact. Will they get unpublished?

Distributed Cache Services and Search Services on medium size farm.

I have a question, how should I plan of installation Distributed Cache and Search services on SharePoint 2013 2 x Web Front-end, 2 x Application server? Some people say that is good to install Index Replica and Query Processing components on WFEs and rest of search components install on Application servers. But there is also recommendation to do not install Distributed Cache together with Search services. I'm really confused about this, what are your suggestions?

Hi

I have just uppgraded our news site from SP2010 to SP2013 without major incidents.
Though one small issue is that all our news post dates are blank. The user that posted the news and the news itself is ok. The site uses the publishing template.

anyone have any tips for fixing this?

Site Collection URL is not working

I am totally new to share-point and am still studying this. I just deployed my own sharepoint and here is what i am facing now.

I have created a web application and site collection with the path of intranet.mydomain.com. with port number 4343 I have chosen that port cuz i already have my exchange infrastructure that the outlook web app is using port 443 already and my router is forwarding port443 to excahnge server for owa access from internet. My internal domain is .local

I have created site collections under the path intranet.mydomain.com which is my web application and then intranet.mydomain.com/main is explicit site collection. everything is setup but now that I am trying to access the link intranet.mydomain.com or intranet.mydomain.local it says page cant be displayed.

for ourside access I have created a A record in my external DNS for intranet which makes intranet.mydomain.com point to my router public IP and forwarded port 4343 (which is the port I selceted while created the web application in sharepoint) to sharepoint server IP. now if i access intranet.mydomain.com from outside it opens up my outlook web app which means it is beign forwarded by my router to exchange server.

What i have done wrong in here? is there an miss config cuz my internal domain is .local and i have configured web application and site collections wrong? or what is happening? in IIS i checked and site binding is fine too just according to what is configured by sharepoint.

thanks in advance for the help and detailed guidance

Save Site As template Sharepoint 2013 PowerShell

As in my question in :

http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/111609/upload-site-template-powershell

I tried to upload a saved Site Template (.wsp file) to my new Site the way i can create new subsites based on this Site template, when i tried the recommended Microsoft method (for farm solution) which is to use `Add-SPSolution` then to do `Install-SPSolution` this did not work because the site template did not figure among the Site Templates.

But when a buddy proposed me to use `Add-SPUserSolution` and `Install-SPUserSolution` which are made for SandBoxed solutions, I did found the site template in the solutions gallery and found it among my custom templates. And what the main differences between `Add-SPSolution` and `Add-SPUserSolution` except the Sandboxed/Farm thing?

First,

Can anyone explain me why did this happen? i have a farm solution and i have found my self using Sandboxed cmdlets to solve my problem ... why ? Am i missing any detail? Of course if there is any other solution, feel free to propose it to me...

Secondly,

In Sharepoint 2010, i saw that there was a cmdlet called Install-SPWebTemplate that i can't find since i am using SP2013, A big Why did Microsoft remove that cmdlet in SP2013?? any reasons doing that ?

Finally,

Am i right when i think that microsoft made this operation Harder in sp2013 comparing to 2010?

Can anyone explain that to me please?

Managed navigation only shows for me

As the subject suggests only I can see the global managed navigation across the top of my publishing portal site, no other users can see it when logged in.  I have each term set to simple link or header so the sites can be browsed to when clicked.

My farm is a single web app with multiple site collections

Any idea why?

News Feed UserProfile Picture pointing to old url

Originally when the site was setup the my site was setup with an incorrect URL.  So I created another site collection using the mysite host template and then when into the mysite settings and changed the url.  This fixed the links to mysites but the images in the site feeds are still referencing the old URL and not displaying the image.

Any idea on how to update the reference?

Search not working in SharePoint 2013 - Event ID 1314 - Crawler:Gatherer Plugin

I have one web application and three host-named site collections. I had read an article that I just need to have the web application URL in the content source for the search to work, but that didn't resolve my issue.

https://webapplication - main root web application

https://staff.domain.com - Host name site collection

https://services.domain.com Host name site collection

https://sharepoint.domain.com host name site collection.

I have also created the registry entry for BackConnectionHostNames also.

Under Search Application topology I have all green check marks, but searchable items are listed as 0.

I am getting the following errors on my SharePoint 2013 server.

The start address https://sharepoint.domain.com cannot be crawled.

Context: Application 'Connect_Search', Catalog 'Portal_Content'

Details:

Looking for migration preparation resources

When SP 2013 came out, I figured "well, let's see - create a sp 2013 farm just like the sp 2010 farm, then shut down 2010, backup the content databases, restore and mount them, and we are done". I mean, we are not interested, in this time, in reorganizing things, and we are in no hurry to update the Look and feel.

My predecessors started in SP 2003 and migrated to SP 2007. I migrated (with a lot of support) the content from 2007 to 2010. We have minimal add on customization or home grown code on the farm.

So, what resources are available to let me know what kinds of things are most likely to cause problems? Is there a "preupgradecheck" type function that works for SP 2013 like the stsadm function did for SP 2010?

Is it true that authentication has to change from sp 2010 to sp 2013? If so, what impact on users would such a change make?

I am in search of resources to help me get up to speed in planning a migration.

Thanks!

SQL exception 4104 when incremental crawl is run, causes runaway w3wp process

$

Every Timer Job on this server runs successful.
Memory leaks have been investigated and no cause has been found.

When my crawl job runs an incremental crawl a w3wp process uses a large amount of memory from a steady 700MB to 4GB, and the CPU can peg.

This causes a non responsive WFE

the event viewer records many

"Unknown SQL Exception 4104 occurred. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

The multi-part identifier "ListOrds.ListId" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "ListOrds.ListId" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "ListOrds.ListId" could not be bound.
The multi-part identifier "ListOrds.ListId" could not be bound."

The crawl job finishes successfully and search is working well.

I ran a profiler on exceptions and there are a few hundred of these (event viewer halts the recording).

If I stop the crawl this w3wp condition does not happen and no events are recorded.

Is there a way to rebuild the Search Service and Crawls from scratch to see if that will clear this up?
Is there a way to identify which part of the crawl is causing this?
