UI Upgrade from SharePoint 2010 to 2013

Hello,

I've a huge sharePoint content database. This Content database was migrated to SharePoint 2010 approx. 2 years ago.
Now I'm trying to migrate this database to SharePoint 2013.

I executed Test-SPContentDatabase, Mount-SPContentDatabase and the database attached successfully to the new SharePoint 2013 farm. All the migrated content is available and all custom Features are working as expected.

But the UI-Upgrade process is producing over 9.000 Errors. A lot of them are:

SharePoint DSN Changing in the registry

$

Hello All,

We are seeing some strange behaviour with a SharePoint 2013 SP1 farm. This Farm has been running for a while but is still in pre-production at the moment.

The issue we are seeing is the DSN key in the registry in this location

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\secure\ConfigDB.

is being changed from this

Data Source=SPPRDAlias;Initial Catalog=SPPRD_Config;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=45

to this

Connect Timeout=45

Obviously SharePoint stops working on the server until we edit the registry and put the correct key back.

The Farm has 4 servers, 2 are acting as Web Servers and 2 as Application servers, it only seems to be the web servers that are affected at the moment.

I am unaware of any group policy setting that is causing this.

SharePoint 2013 with WebApps enabled: Login prompt when accessing office/pdf files as anonymous user

$

Hi!

We are running SharePoint 2013 and would like to have a public facing site distributing a couple of pdf / office files.

Central Admin settings:
The web app is using Claims Authentication/NTLM and I have enabled anonymous access on the web application. Client Integration is Disabled. There are no Anonymous Access Restrictions - all zones have "None-No Policy" selected.

Moving on to the site collection itself:
When I go to "Site Settings" and select "Site Permissions" I have enabled anonymous access on "Entire Site".

We also have Office Web Apps deployed which is working correctly for users that are logged in. The default open behavior for browser-enabled documents is set to "Open in the client application" both on the Site Collection level and in the document library.

End user experience:
The user is able to access the site, but when attempting to open a office document (docx, xlsx, pptx etc) or a pdf file a login box appears. Same result when using Chrome, FireFox and Internet Explorer. If the users clicks "Cancel" on the login prompt he is presented with a "401 Unauthorized"

IIS Settings:

In IIS 8.5 I have entered "OPTIONS" and "PROPFIND" on the HTTP Verbs settings of the relevant Site.

All help greatly appreciated :)

Automatic Selection of Authentication Provider in Mixed Mode (AD + ADFS)

$

Hi,

our SP2013 Farm uses both AD authentication and a Trusted Identity Provider which is ADFS. We have to have AD authentication enabled for backend functionality (self service catalog + search) to work properly.

When the user browses to the webapp he sees this login screen: https://URL_login/default.aspx

I want ADFS to be autoselected for the users that browse to this webapp.

I have tried this solution which was targeted for SP2010 in Codeplex: https://spautomaticsignin.codeplex.com/

However, I did not get it to work.

Is it possible to autoselect a certain Authentication provider?

Thanks

Sven

SharePoint 2013 app showing blank screen after 3 login prompts (even with DisableLoopbackCheck in the registry)

$

Hi everyone,

I'm currently having some trouble viewing the recently added app from the Microsoft SharePoint 2013 App Store.

Downloading & installing the app works fine, but when I try to navigate to it, I get three login prompts and a blank screen.

The DNS is correct, the dedicated web application without a host header is created and I've already set the DisableLoopbackCheck registry item.

I can navigate correctly through the whole site; I'm only experiencing this when I want to view a recently added App.

Can someone please help me with this issue?

Thanks in advanced!

Kind regards,

M. Hekman

Hi guys, I have Sharepoint foundation 2013 that is installed together with Team Foundation Server. Now I need to enable external access and I installed Unified access gateway 2010. Now I wanted to use UCC certificate that I have in order to secure sharepoint. Can you please give me step by step instruction how to do that? I found several articles and they had different steps, some said that I need to enable trust for the certificate in sharepoin and some said that I just need to crate binding in IIS. I tried with binding but it didn't work. PLease help.

Thanks

AppFabric won't install - tried various solutions

I'm trying to install the prerequisites for SharePoint 2013 (on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1)

Like many others, I'm having troubles installing SP 2013 because the AppFabric part of the prerequisites is not installing.  Unlike others, there is really no error in the log.  After it starts installing appfabric, it shows the finish window, with AppFabric: installation error, and reboots machine.

I have tried:

Altering and then removing the PSModulePath environment variable.

Downloading and running the AppFabric setup using the command window with the appropriate parameters (/i CacheClient,CachingService,CacheAdmin /gac).  Also started up the prerequisite installer from the command line specifying the appfabric setup file.

AppFabric is not and was not installed prior to installation. (it is not available to uninstall).  WIndows update is on, and I have applied all available updates.

Here are the relevant lines from the log:

Initiall SharePoint Server 2013 setup -- unable to manage new User Profile Service Application

$

During initial farm setup, creating an initial User Profile Service Application works fine.  However, once it's created, I cannot 'manage' it through the Manage Service Applications page in central admin.

I get a generic error (Sorry, something went wrong / unexpected error) with a correlation ID that doesn't seem to match any ULS log entries. (Yes, I merged logs from all machines in the farm.)

A Windows event log entry says:

A failure was reported when trying to invoke a service application: Endpoint Failure

Also frequent errors in ULS logs:  (see below)

  1. UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException
  2. User Profile Application      Proxy failed to retrieve partitions from User Profile Application: Micro…
  3. SPDistributedCache DataCacheException

I did notice that the file 'ProfileService.svc does not exist in SharePoint's web services app at the URL you see in the error. (below)

I also found it interesting that the event log error shows 1 active endpoint and 3 failed endpoints.  I have 2 WFEs and 2 app servers.  But I'm only trying to get the user profile service app running on the application servers.  I have deleted and recreated this service app several times under various names (deleted/recreated its app pool as well) and wonder if these other failed endpoints could be orphans from previous instances...

Any thoughts on how I might successfully create this service application?  I've already been Binging my head against a wall long enough that I would have been better off reinstalling the entire farm...  I may still do that.

FYI, my farm came from a slipstreamed SP1 install package, and received the July CU after several other things were already configured, including the already-failed UP service application.

Creating Publishing Pages

In SP2010, the steps to create a page was Site Actions > More Options > Create > Page

Then we'd have the options to select a Page, Publishing Page, or Web Part Page.

I can't seem to figure out where this is in SP2013.   I know I can go to Site Contents and select Pages > File > New Document.  That gives me the option to create a new Page, Article Page, Welcome Page, or Error Page.    Where can I create the pages above like in 2010?  The Publishing feature is enabled by the way.

thanks

Any help is appreciated.

We are installing Office 365 (2013 not 2010) and would like to make XXX.sharepoint.com/Pages/default.aspx non-accessable and instead point them to xxx.sharepoint.com

We would like to prevent them from accessing xxx.sharepoint.com/Pages/default.aspx directly, in effect disabling that page.

Thanks you for your help

Do newly created users need an audience compilation before they become memebers of a audience?

Or is the compliation related to the rules of the audience memeberhsips?

Workflow Manager and SharePoint Designer publishing error

Hello all,

I'm hoping for some help in fixing this issue.

I've been trying to publish a workflow using SharePoint Designer only to find that I get this error:

"Errors were found when compilint the workflow. The workflow files were saved but cannot be run."

After clicking on the advanced button it shows error:

System.InvalidOperationException: Operation failed with error Microsoft.Workflow.Client.WorkflowCommunicationException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. Client ActivityId : 6a78ad9c-6ac6-f03a-0680-003bd46e5f68. ---> System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The requested operation requires an HTTPS (SSL) channel. Ensure that the target endpoint address supports SSL and try again. Target endpoint address:

Note: the message cuts off after the "Target endpoint address".

Looking on the SharePoint server, when I try and pull up the Workflow Manager site (https://localhost:12290/) I get this response:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">

<Code>AuthorizationError</Code><message><Message>The caller does not have the necessary permissions required for this operation. Permissions granted: None. Required permissions: ReadScope.</Message></message></Error>

I am running this farm with HTTPS and I have registered the SP workflow service with the appropriate application. I have also set the Workflow Management Site bindings in IIS to utilize the same certificate as the default SharePoint site.

At this point, I don't know if the error that I received from Designer is related to the Site error, although I do know that I also have a Development environment that is able to publish workflows just fine. However, this farm uses HTTP rather than HTTPS so I can only assume that the differences are what's causing the issue. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer. Thanks!

Enabling Developer dashboard not returning any data

HI,

I have enabled the Developer dashboard using powershell as below. (Usage and Health data collection is enabled in service application).

$svc = [Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPWebService]::ContentService
$dds = $svc.DeveloperDashboardSettings
$dds.DisplayLevel = "OnDemand"
$dds.Update()

I can see the Icon on the site. but no data is getting logged. In the "Get-SPServiceApplication", I can see the service application. How to see data in developer dashboard? I am using publishing site, which has a custom master page.

Thanks
