Installing SharePoint 2013 - Cannot install database on second instance on remote SQL 2008 R2 SP1

Environment:

- OS:Windows 2008 R2

- Type: Virtual

- Sharepoint 2013 pre-requisites installed

- Remote SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1, instance 2

Problem:

When entering the values for the configuration database, it doesnt allow one to specify which instance on the destination SQL server to use.  How do you get the wizard to not use the default instance of SQL, but install on instance 2 instead?

Hi,

I've just installed SP2013 Ent RTM in my lab and can't for the life of me get MySites working. I can edit user profiles e.g. uploading a photo and chnaging the About me field etc. but the main area of the screen says 'While we set things up, feel free to change your photo, adjust your personal settings, and fill in information about yourself.' then:

We're sorry. Something went wrong with your My Site setup.
Please try again later or contact your help desk.

How to troubleshoot Search installations in SharePoint 2013

Hello,

I am installing SharePoint 2013 via PowerShell. The scripts should be working fine, as I already have set up an environment with those scripts. I am deploying it now for another customer, but I get (in the overview of the topology):

  • warnings : Admin & content processing
  • and errors : Analytics, query processing and index partition

The only component that is registered successfully, is the crawling component. Can anyone tell me where to start looking or what could be the cause of this ? I am talking about the following setup :

  • 1 app server: admin, crawler, content processing
  • 2 WFE servers: Query processing, Index partition
  • Analytics is only activated on one WFE

The three services instances are online, and the host controllers report the same RepositoryVersion.

Where can I find the reasons for the errors and warnings now ?

As a newbie, I will first profess that it has not been without several full days of Technet site research as well as trying every conceivable script offered by Dynamics to fix a problem with this WSP activation. No matter what I attempt I cannot get it to Activate. I keep getting box with "

Sorry, something went wrong

An unknown exception occurred while executing a sandboxed code solution request in the worker process.\r\n|0

every activation attempt. I have Spt running on Domain AD Controller. Only because it is virtual and with other machines running on network I am plumb low on RAM allocation availability. If somebody has gone through this kindly advise and save me a weeks worth of life. Thanks in advance.

My conecrn would be please let me have your thoughts or some good article if it has some negative impact or I need to take care of any special scenario which will be needing attention while doing the migration.

Office Web Apps 2013 installation issue in HTTPS

Hi,

I'm trying to install Office Web Apps Server in HTTPS mode but keep getting an error. When I run the command  New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName owaserver, it says "WARNING: The server did not repspond. Trying again (attempt 1of 5)." When I go into Event Viewer, I see this error for each attempt:

An operation failed because the following certificate has validation errors:

Subject Name: CN=<url>, OU=Domain Control Validated - RapidSSL(R), OU=Seewww.rapidssl.com/resources/cps (c)12, OU=<OU>, SERIALNUMBER=<serial number>
Issuer Name: CN=RapidSSL CA, O="GeoTrust, Inc.", C=US
Thumbprint: <thumbprint>

Errors:

SSL policy errors have been encountered.  Error code '0x2'..

I've installed the Root CA from the provider, registered the .cer files in CA -> Security -> Manage Trusts, and via PowerShell. I've reset IIS multiple times and rebooted the OWA server and the WFE. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the cert or a SharePoint issue.

Thanks

2013 Host Header Site Collection Site Content Add Apps Issue

I have a standard path based site as the default on my port 80 web app. I have then created a host header site collection on the web app. All seems to be working except the add an app feature. When I click add an app to try to add a basic SharePoint library , it just shows loading but doesn't go anywhere. Is there something I need to do specifically for a host header site collection to get this to work? It works from the default web. Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Sharepoint 2013 and authentication

$

Hi

I am looking for some help on how to plan  On a new sharepoint 2013 setup

Current setup is using oldest version on sharepoint

There are around 10000 users across more than 100 main subwebs. Most of these subwebs are using unique web permissions and using standard features such as lists, Document liraries.

This was running fine on a standalone server here  are few questions  I am looking at:

1) Microsoft recommends claims based authentication  for sharepoint now , is it secure and are there any restrictions/bugs when we cannot use Claim based authentication.

using Claim based authentication does this mean that we dont need any ACtive directory  based domain for w  web server and SQL servers.

are there any differences/complications  in backup process  if claim based authentications are used.

2) can we  create web applications/subwebs using a list  through powershell.

Hello,

I´ve already ask this on:

Also on a site in the web application when trying to open the web page on UMLS appear:

Hi,

When I try to open SharePoint store with tenant site i get error "Sorry, apps are turned off. If you know who runs the server, tell them to enable apps." It works fine with normal site.

Steps tried so far:

1. Added "APP management service application" to teant service application group

2. Make sure it is working fine for normal sites

3. Created appropriate DNS entry

Quick reply would be appreciated

Installed Sharepoint 2013 Foundation on WIndow 2010 server -- Issues activating sandbox solutions

I have several Sharepoint 2010 Foundation solutions(wsps).   They activate withou issues in Office/365 sites that have been upgraded to Sharepoint 2013 (although I am told its not exactly Sharepoint 2013 but close).   However on a new Sharepoint 2013 Foundation site I installed on a Windows Server 2012 server I can not activate these solutions (although there are other simpler wsp that I could activate).

The activation error is Sorry Something went wrong. unknown exception in sandbox worker process.  Here is the ULS log trace
