Hi,

I have big poblem with search service. Yesterday I had to delete search service, I did it simply from CA - click delete search service with associated content. After that come my problem, two databases didn't removed, and serach services didn't stop, I stoped service and removed databases by powershell but now I'm not able to run new search service, when I try to create I got below errors in CA:

Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application.

Modify ConnectionSynchronizationOU in user profile synchronization

$

We have configured a Profile Synchronization Connection for Users in a seperate, untrusted AD-Forest. For the synchronization we use "Active Directory Import connection".

If we try to modify the containers, who should synchronized into sharepoint, we can change and save it without errors. But if we open the connection settings again, the removed OUs are appeares again.

Therefore we have looked for a cmdlet or commandline to modify the OU-List, but we couldn't find anything.

Is it possible to modify the list of OUs in the container settings of a profile synchronization connection without delete and recreate the connection completely?

Thanks for your help.

Cannot create mysites from powershell: Original XSLT List View Web Part not found

$

0

I have a bizarre problem in my SharePoint 2013 farm. This does not occur in my test farm, only in the farm we were going to go live with.

I'm on windows Server 2012, SQLServer 2012 SP1, SharePoint 2013 April CU. 1 appserver/centraladmin server, 2 web servers.

When I log into our mysitehost and click newsfeed, it will create a mysite (even though first it displays "we are sorry there was a problem creating your site")

But from powershell, whether I use $UserProfile.CreatePersonalSite() or New-SPSite, I get the following error:

Original XSLT List View Web Part not found

So far I've only found one other person with this: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/2503e42c-e114-4e89-8e00-89fe70f0b154/cannot-create-sharepoint-mysite-programmatically

This is a brand new farm, created with the same scripts I created my test farm with, and same version of SharePoint. Only the service accounts are different. (Farm account has admin on the servers right now since I was setting up profile service).

Some other errors from the same correlation ID that look related:

It can't seem to find the listemplate 101

And something looks wrong with the MySiteDocumentLibrary feature

I have tried the following:

1. run psconfig.exe on each server
2. install-spfeature -AllExistingFeatures
3. looped through the directory under Features and for each called Install-SPFeature $dirname -Force
4. uninstalled and reinstalled MySiteDocumentLibrary feature
5. blew away the whole farm (removed all servers from farm, deleted all databases) and recreated it.
6. tried creating the UPA from the CentralAdmin gui.

The only real difference I can think of between the working farm and non working farm is, I installed the working farm using RTM, then as they came out added the March PU and April CU. For this farm I installed RTM and March and April, and then ran my build farm script.

I am at a loss. What do I need to do, re-install the binaries? That's all I can think of. What I love is that our test / POC system worked fine, and now 2 weeks before go-live I'm seeing errors on the production servers I've never seen before. Using the same scripts no less.

I've had other problems in this farm: the bug where when you add Administrators to a Search Service via the Manage Service Applications page, it removes the SPSearchDBAdmin role from the search service process account. That one did not happen in the other farm. At least other people have that one and I could just use the farm admin instead (still troublng of course).

SharePoint 2013 Open with Explorer returns error

$

Hello,

I have been working on this issue for hours over several days, but no resolution. When I click on Open with Explorer in the Library tab of a particular document library in SP 2013, I see this error:

"We're having a problem opening this location in File Explorer.  Add this web site to your trusted sites list and try again".

The site already exists in trusted sites, and even tried moving it to the Intranet Zone.  No difference - same message.  Also confirmed Web client is started, Desktop experience is installed on client and server.

Does anyone know how to get around this issue?  This is really hampering our use of the system to download multiple files.

The only other resolution I have seen posted for this issue as as follows:

Cause: There is a missing Root site collection...
Resolution: Check and ensure,  that the “Managed Paths” are not changed in the web Application’s page, there is a (root) explicit for this web application and there is a working Root site collection.

I am not clear on how to implement the above resolution, if this is in fact the issue.

Thanks!

Creating separate HNSC Web application and Path Based Web Application on the same farm

Hi,

I am in the midst of provisioning a new SP 2013 farm.

The idea is to have two web applications, one host named and one normal path based. Path based will be bound to a DNS of collaboration.company.com where as host named site collections will be bound to DNS s1.company.com, s2.company.com and so on.

I have not found any concrete documentation anywhere stating or denying that two web apps with HNSC and PBSC on the same farm are supported or not. Is any specific configuration required for having this topology, if supported at all?

Really unsure if this works and is supported so request your advice please.

Thanks

Tasks - Assigned To user is cleared

$

We've been having issues with Tasks Lists in SharePoint 2013 Enterprise On Prem.

The "Assigned To" user for some tasks on any given task list seem to be randomly clearing out for some users.  What's odd is that it's usually only one users tasks affected, but it happens to ALL tasks assigned to that user.

Sometimes it's the user who created the list and assigned all the tasks, other times it's another user.  But whenever it happens all the tasks for that user are cleared, regardless of anything else (due date, progress, etc).

Usually after re-assigning the tasks it works fine but sometimes it clears it again.

One other thing to note is that I recently setup the relationship between our Exchange 2013 and SharePoint 2013 server so tasks can be synced between Outlook and SharePoint.  This feature has been shaky at best, sometimes the tasks lists in SharePoint will sync, other times they won't.

Unable to delete User Profile

$

Hi all,

I get this message when I go to "Manage User Profiles" in Central Administration and try to delete a specific user profile:

"Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you."

I'm logged in with the SharePoint Admin account which is able to delete other user profiles. Just this one makes troubles.

About this "specific user profile": We have AD synchronization and this account got deleted in AD. But somehow UPS didn't get it.

I searched for PowerShell commands but couldn't find anything which lets me delete a specific user profile.

Any help is much appreciated!

SharePoint 2013 alerts not sending emails to users

$

Worked on this all day yesterday and to no avail.

Followed up on every one of these fixes and they are all correct/have been run.

http://www.sharepointdiary.com/2012/02/sharepoint-alerts-not-working-troubleshooting-checklist.html

I got a telnet session to work as well but still, no alerts are being sent to users when something changes.

I poked holes in the firewall, set up a receive connector in exchange server as well.

In outbound email settings, I tried putting in the IP address and the server name (which both should work) but nothing happened.

Any suggestions anyone?

SP site becomes unresponsive unless Application Pool is recycled

Everyday random SP site becomes inaccessible to users connected via WFE. Sometimes it's whole site collection, sometimes it's specific subsite. Common symptom has been high CPU usage by w3wp.exe process (AppPool) on affected WFE. After couple minutes of wait time, users get error message: "Something went wrong ....." Upon check with correlation ID, it seems like request is waiting, possibly on DB; but when I look up on DB and App servers, there is not hike in system resource or error logged.

We are able to temporarily fix it by recycling AppPool on affected WFE but unable to find root cause and solution. Best bet looks like to open case but wanted to give a shot or atleast try to identify the source of issue.

Env: PROD, SP Server 2013  Topology: 2 WFE - 2 App - 2 DB (SQL - AOAG)

Changing the auhtentication order 1)claims then 2)anonymous

We have a multi domain environment.

After enabling Anonymous to allow a non-trusted domain into our authenticated Intranet environment, everything works, except that now authenticated users by default get the anonymous look and feel, meaning they don't see their links (which they would automatically see) until they click on "Sign In".

Before they would automatically get logged on, but after enabling Anonymous it looks like the authentication order is anonymous  and then if they click on Sign In they log in.

Is there anyway to switch it so that first goes through claims and if not authenticated it lets you in as anonymous?

Thanks for your help in advance

User Profile Pictures

So, I am trying to get a picture from a picture library into that user's profile in SharePoint using PowerShell. I've successfully gotten the picture into the PictureURL value but I don't think it's working properly. For one, the picture maintains it's original size (as seen here).  I want SharePoint to go through the process of making the three images (small, medium, and large). Is there a way to perform this operation using PowerShell? Here is my current PowerShell:

Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

$mySiteUrl = "http://mysiteurl"

$site = Get-SPSite $mySiteUrl
$context = Get-SPServiceContext $site
$profileManager = New-Object Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileManager($context)

$profile = $profileManager.GetUserProfile("ADTestUser")
$profile["PictureURL"].Value = "http://mypictureurl/ADTestUser.jpg"
$profile.Commit()

$site.Dispose()

Update-SPProfilePhotoStore -MySiteHostLocation $mySiteUrl -CreateThumbnailsForImportedPhotos 1

SharePoint 2013 Search this site returns no results

We have a web application with several site collections in our SharePoint 2013 farm. When regular users search for site content using "Search this site" box, it usually returns data for the most sites. There are certain sites where it doesn't return any data, even if I search being a site collection administrator. But, if I try to use the farm account, it returns data. I know it's some kind of permission issue, but I didn't find anything special in those sites, site collections and lists permissions.

Anyone knows possible reasons why this happens? I will appreciate any help.

However, one or more users could not be converted to Claims

I followed this article:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg251985(v=office.15).aspx

section "Convert SharePoint 2010 Products classic-mode web applications to SharePoint 2013 claims-based web applications" to convert our SP2010 site to SP2013 CLAIMS mode.

After I run "Convert-SPWebApplication –Identity <yourWebAppUrl> –To Claims -RetainPermissions" and completed. It prompt for warning:

WARNING: The conversion of web application and most of the users to Claims mode
is completed. However, one or more users could not be converted to Claims
mode. Refer to the ULS logs for the details. For the troubleshooting tips refer
 to the http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=236943 article.

I tested login with a few users and seems good.

1. Is the warning valid?
2. How can I find the related log? It even not providing the correlection ID.

Thank you!

Office Web Apps Server - Access is denied

Hello,

I was able to create an Office Web Apps server and was able to create a new farm for that server all without any issues, everything works great.

Unfortunately right after creating the farm, when attempting to run any other related powershell commands such as:

Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm

Remove-OfficeWebAppsFarm

I get this error in powershell:

Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm : Access is denied.
At line:1 char:1
+ Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (:) [Get-OfficeWebAppsFarm], SecurityAccessDeniedException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.ServiceModel.Security.SecurityAccessDeniedException,Microsoft.Office.Web.Apps.Adm
   inistration.GetFarmCommand

Although everything is actually working on the server, I'd like to be able to use those other commands in the future so I can check configurations, use "Remove" for running updates, etc... Unfortunately it appears as though this Access is denied error may interfere with those activities.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thank you
