Manage Profile Services - Unable to edit User Properties or User Profiles

SharePoint 2013 - fresh site, with Mysites, and the User Profile Service running.  The UPS is ran under a separate account, and the farm account has securityAdmin rights and directory replication rights.

When I enter Manage User Properties, I get a complete list of properties but no way to edit them, the same happens when I go into User Profile Properties, there is no where to edit the users.  Has anyone seen this before and if so what step have I missed in setting the UPS and MySites Up.

Both Administrator and Farm Admin have Administrator rights to the UPS Application, and it's the Profile User Service that's running at the minute not the Profile User Synchronization Service.

Any help would be appreciated.

Importing Site Collection Managed Metadata using PowerShell

I used the following article to create a backup of my Managed Metadata Term Store: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/taj/archive/2011/01/11/site-collection-backup-restore-and-managed-metadata.aspx

However, what I noticed after I completed my import was that the only Term Sets which were restored were any Global Metadata terms that I had created!  All of the local site collection terms that I had created were not restored/present at all!

Please advise as to how to backup and restore Managed Metadata that was created in a Site Collection to use Managed Navigation.

Adding initial App Catalog fails - Title already exists

Hello 

I am trying to add an initial App Catalog fails with message below. 

There are no App Catalogs listed in CA> SharePoint and Office Store Settings. 

There are Apps listed in Site Contents> Your Apps.


 

Error:

The following exception occurred: A list, survey, discussion board, or document library with the specified title already exists in this Web site.  Please choose another title.

Site restore breaks old Newsfeed posts

In 2013 we're seeing a consistent issue when restoring, copying, or moving sites around. All of the Newsfeed posts come over after the operation, but they can't be further commented on, "Liked", or deleted. Here are the errors we're seeing:

Microfeed - SPMicrofeedPostIdentifier.FromString Exception caught [Microsoft.Office.Server.Microfeed.MicrofeedException: ServerErrorPublishedFeedListNotFound

Microsoft.Office.Server.Social.SPSocialException: The target of the operation was not found. Internal type name: Microsoft.Office.Server.Microfeed.MicrofeedException. Internal error code: 5.

Is this a known behavior as a portability issue with the Newsfeeds, or are we missing a step in the process? Future posts behave as expected.

Changing the UPS sync service account

Hi,

I have  a Sharepoint 2013 farm, with SP1 + April 2014 CU.

I want to change the service account for the User Profile Synchronisation service account, from the farm account to a dedicated service account (which has permissions in AD).

What steps do I need to take to do this? I've tried to change the account in service accounts, but the change to the new account does not persist when I come to start the actual UPS Sync service.

import datat from public facing site

Hi,
I see a lot of blogs about publishing data from your local farm to your public facing web site.

What if i want to collect data on my public site and import it to my local farm ?

For example using an HR scenario of recruiting an employee we need the recruit to fill out forms and submit resume on the public site with anonymous access but we want to analyze the data in our HR sub site on our local farm.

Is there a built in way of doing that like Content deployment or Publishing site (but in the other direction)  ?

sharepoint 2013 with tableau only works with basic authentication for oauth

We are trying to connect to tableau with getting data from sharepoint 2013 lists.

But it only works when we enable basic auth for oauth. Did anybody connect tableau and create reports based on sharepoint list?

Does request Managment need to be started on each server forRequest mangement server to be in place?

I have a farm where it is not started on any server but I still see entries when I use powershell

$w | Get-SPRequestManagementSettings

What does having the servcie started in CA signify?

Hi all,

I have a post on newsfeed in my site that it can't be deleted, actually it doesn't exist (I have seen the logs and the ID is not exisiting anymore) in the Database. However, I don't know why it appears on my microfeed... I tryed to delete it, but when I refresh the page it appears again. The thing is when I want to comment that post the following error appears:

Microsoft.Office.Server.Social.SPSocialException: The target of the operation was not found. Internal type name: Microsoft.Office.Server.Microfeed.MicrofeedException. Internal error code: 5.

I have been searching for that error but I couldn't find any clue about this.... any thoughs about that??

how can we do pagination of large sharepoint 2013 list(50000 records) in spgridview. We can not bring all 50000 in one go. if we give itemlimit then how filter and search is going to behave? In sql server we can bring start and end. In splist how to do this.In oob listview there is really good pagination control. Can we reuse that control or code?

Unexpected error when attempting to view Global Navigation (root site top navigation)

I am getting an “unexpected error” when attempting to view Navigation settings at the root site of our SharePoint environment.  We are running SharePoint 2013 site collection in SharePoint 2010 compatibility mode.  The error happens when you try to view Global (Top-Level) Navigation Settings in our SharePoint root site. (Relative URL:  /_layouts/AreaNavigationSettings.aspx). 

I copied the exact errors from SP Logs below.  There is some null reference cited.  Where is the root of the problem?   Any information would be helpful!

SharePoint 2013 Contemporary View not working

I have setup a sandbox SharePoint 2013 team site and was just testing the new mobile contemporary view on several mobile devices and the contemporary view fails to load.  The mobile view is active in Manage Site Features so I'm not sure why the page won't load at all on my mobile devices.  Any thoughts?

Wildcard search not working

Hi,

I have a Sharepoint 2013 with a working local Sharepoint search application.

If I try to search with wildcards in a site search, I get results.

If I use operators (AND/OR) on a list search, I get results.

When I do a valid wildcard search (like the 1st scenario, above), I get no results.

Why do wildcard results not work? The list in question has been re-indexed and crawled, and it's results are set to appear in search results.

ADFS login page does not direct to SharePoint site

Ihave SharePoint 2013 configured with ADFS 2.0.  When I go to the SharePoint site, it directs to the adfs login page.  It authenticated and specified that I am signed in.  However, it does not direct me to my SharePoint site.  Can someone pin point me to where the problem might be?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi ,

I am doing upgrade  SharePoint2013,fallowing DB attached Process.

Existing environment: SP2010 ent.. Sp1 /Branding/4 dll i have/no solution find in solution management but some custom web part exist/DB 300+GB/customized layout page/master page

After complete the restoration and mount the database.Got 49 error and upgrade has been failed.

Kindly let me know if any body have idea how to resolve below error:

Expandable/Collapsable Lists on Home Page

Hi,

I am hoping to set up a body of text in the home page of my site in SharePoint 2013.  I would like to set up a few bodies of text, with headers for each body of text or series of bullet points.  My intent is to have the headers visible, and to have the section expand to show the body of text if an arrow or the header is clicked.  This information is very necessary for the home page, but having it all visible at once is too much text.

I have looked online a little bit, and have seen that this usually requires JavaScript.  I'm not very familiar with JavaScript, and I'm hoping there is something in the UI that can make this functionality possible.

I would appreciate some advice/instruction to make this possible.

Hi,

I have a Sharepoint 2013 farm I am trying to provision search for (not the same as my other thread). However, I get the below error:

Exception calling "Activate" with "0" argument(s): "Topology does not contain any components of type Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.Topology.AdminComponent"

In my script, I have the following:

New-SPEnterpriseSearchAdminComponent -SearchTopology $clone  -SearchServiceInstance $SearchServiceInstanceServer3 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue

So I am not sure why the error happens, when I am trying to set this component. However, it's not the first component to be set (index partition on non-local servers first). I can make it first, but why does this error happen?

UPDATE: I have noticed that the usage and health proxy on my farm is/was stopped, but I am not able to access the server(s) to look at this right now. Could this cause this issue?
