SIte Migration fromSharepoint 2010 to Sharepoint 2013

We are planning site migration from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. The site collection in SP2010 is a root site when it was created (not managed path). We will test the content database for SP2013 compatibility and attach it to a staging web application to convert it to SP2013., detach from Staging Web App once database upgrade is complete. Anything I need to do when attaching it to a Site collection in a Host named site collection (HNSC) ?  I believe there are PowerShell commands that will allow me to drop the temporary content database for the site collection (in HNSC) and attach the migrating content database. (Can someone point me to the PowerShell commands for replacing content database for HNSC based Site Collections). Any issues due to the fact that the database was for a root site collection in SharePoint 2010 ?

Thanks

Hi all,

I am trying to install SP2013 on WinServer2008R2 in a VM. I installed IIS7,WinServer2008r2,VS2012,Sql 2008 R2 SP1, after sp2013 installs and is configuring the database it is giving anerror

I had installed sql in mixed mode authentication and added myself domainname\admininstrator as one of the admins after creating a dummy domain SV. The installation instance name is the default MSSQLSERVER. So in the datbase name I enter MSSQLServer and in the username i enter my domainname\administrator but i get the error ,

Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at machinename\MSSQLSERVER. The database might not exist, or the current user does not have permission to connect to it.

Next i try with .\MSSQLServer and I get the same error.
I then put the machinename in databse server textbox, and try, this time while sharepoint is running the wizard,it gives the error as below and fails.

An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException was thrown.  Additional exception information: User cannot be found.

I have verified that the user domainname\Administrator exists in the sql server.

Kindly avise.

SharePoint 2013 - "Personalize this page" option is not showing under User Logon name for person.aspx page.

Hi

I want to add a web part to person.aspx (About Me) page.

I have SharePoint 2013 Enterprise verion and have 2 SharePoint farm (Test and Prod).  On one of the farm I see the option "Personalize this page" option under User Logon name on person.aspx (About Me) page or Any My Site page.

On the other farm,  I just don't see the option "Personalize this page" on person.aspx page at all.

I logged on with the same account and have give Farm Admin and grant Web Application permission to both farm.  I also check that web application all personalize permissions are checked on both farms.

I can't think of any thing else.  Can someone shed some light to this?

Thanks in advance for any advise or comment.

SharePoint 2013 Audience validation failed for site

I currently have a test SharePoint 2013 environment and recently run into a problem with the Content Type Hub.  I have deleted the old content type hub (http://contenttypehub), the database the site was in and the Managed Metadata Service associated with it.  I have recreated the MMS with a new content type hub site (http://contenttypes).

When creating Host Named Site Collections I get the "sorry something went wrong" error and the below is in the ULS log.

It looks like this is looking for the old site but I cannot fins anywhere to change this behaviour.

Any insight/help appreciated.

Thanks

Andrew

Host Header Site Collection and Web App Setup - Thoughts

$

I am trying to understand relation between AAM and web app extension .Please share your expert opinion. I have not seen any TechNet article talking about it clearly.

Here it goes: in 2010 it was recommended Not to use AAM with IIS bindings without extending the web application. This was mentioned in several TechNet articles also its  a known “Mistake #4” on TechNet articles.

So question is, is that still the same case in 2013?

Most of the times it is recommended to remove web app host header from IIS if you are using this web app for HHSC, otherwise sites will not be accessible. I have find no issues by leaving web app host header and adding more bindings for host header site collections any thoughts on this ?

Thanks.

Unable to export data from Web Access Data Sheet in Sharepoint to local excel or access file

$

Greetings and good morning.

I'm going to start off in broad terms with this question because I'm not 100 percent sure what information to provide.

Long story short, we've got a Web Access Data Sheet list hosted in a Sharepoint 2010 environment. It is accessed and used by multiple people throughout the day. It contains several thousand line item entries. I'd call it a large data sheet.

I think the size of the data sheet is casuign some instability in the list. I'd like to be able to export a defined range of data from the list into a local excel or access file. After that, I'd delete the stuff on the Access list to improve performance.

But...when I attempt to use the Sharepoint Action bar to export - Excel locks up/crashes. If I try to export to Access, I get a similar issue.

Any ideas? Could anyone begin by telling me what other information is required?

Confusion around Host Named Site Collections, Host Header Web Application and MySite host

$

Hello

I am confused about the best practice to set up web applications in a corporate environment.

We have got a Three Tier SharePoint 2013 platform setup. We are confused about the best practice of using HNSC, Host header web applications and where to host MySite Host.

Based on our requirements, We planned for

  1. Web Application without Host Header on port 80. we are planning to use this web application to host HNSC. This is for one part of the group which wants to have their own site for each of its location.
  2. Web Application with Host Header (http://websiteB.company.com) on port 80. I think because we have used Host Header in Web site level we can't host HNSC in this web application. This is other part of the company which wants to have only one site for all of its locations.
  3. MySite host web application with Host Header(http://mysite.company.com) on port 80.
  4. As you can see all the web applications are on port 80 but different application pools

  • Can any one see any problem with the above set up.
  • We are planning to make the sites external, do you think will i hit any problems with this set up.
  • how about app development for this set up.
  • Is there any problem having multiple and my site host web applications on port 80.
  • Any other issues which i can't see now.

Thanks, please help me with this confusion

Thanks very much

UPSS Sync Schedule

Having issues with UPSS failing after full farm backups and removing one of my attribute mappings..

Each day I have to restart UPSS and re-map the 'Name' property. I need to sync profiles at least every half hour to catch new users for an extranet portal. If I set incremental to once per day, the issue does not surface...what am I missing?

I set the UPSS to perform:

  • UPSS full sync - daily 1am
  • UPSS incremental sync - every 30 minutes
  • Audience sync every 15 minutes
  • User Profile to SharePoint Quick Synchronization = 5 minutes
  • Full farm backups 1am daily

When I try to get the SharePoint 2013 config. wizard to create a new CA Site, since the Database is missing from SQL Server ..

I'm right clicking and running it as the admin, verified that the accounts have SQL permissions.

the error message is:

Failed to register SharePoint services.

An exception of type System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException was thrown. Additional exception information:

Can not open database "SharePoint_AdminContent _GUID"  requested by the login. the login failed.

login failed for <user Account>

Looked at the provided link log file and there is not anything in it of use...

Looked in SQL there is no new Database.

What could be preventing the Config wizard from completing ?

Duplicate field in SharePoint 2013 causing issues when creating sites from Templates, and causing Newsfeed errors

$
0
0

We have a client using SharePoint 2013 On Premise. They have several site collections, Home, Projects, Teams, MySites, etc.

On the project site they created a site to be used as a template for other project sub sites. When they tried to use the template to create a site, it was throwing an error about the "HashTags" field (or "HashTags0" field) being duplicated.

On inspection, several columns named "HashTags" were listed in site columns. The duplicate column was removed from the site, and upon doing so, they all disappeared. Looking at the site with SharePoint Manager, the fields still existed, all with the same exact FieldID. This is a production site, so we were hesitant to try and delete these fields using SP Manager, without any understanding of why this was occurring in the first place. I have done some research and searches on the issue, and originally I was finding a mention of this, but it was in reference to Office365 SP, not On Premise. Now I am starting to see additional posts on the subject, and it seems like a known issue, but to my knowledge, Microsoft (outside of Office365 support) has not weighed in on the problem.

Now, in addition to the existing issue above, Last week the client expressed a desire to start using Newsfeeds outside of MySites. The Site Feed feature has been turned on at the root of the Site Collection for their Projects site, and also in a sub site for testing. When a conversation is input the following Error occurs

"We've hit a snag, Looks like the newsfeed was removed from the site, the site was deleted, or there's some temporary network problem. You can try again later or stop following the site from the sites page."

Viewing the ULS logs while trying to post to the newsfeed indicated an error with an invalid Field ID.  In researching the mentioned Field ID, sure enough, it is the HashTags field. The interesting thing is the newsfeed works fine on MySites, and within at least one other site collection in the farm.  Also notable, is that in the microfeed list where the newsfeed throws the error, the HashTags column is not present (or at least not from site settings as a site column), while it is displayed as a site column on the sites where the newsfeed is working.

Has anyone seen this issue, and been able to resolve, or at least determine why the field is getting duplicated to begin with?

Thank you,

Carl Frank

We are planning to upgrade SP 2010 environment to SP 2013 but the requirement is that the UI shouldn't change. What is the process of upgrading all the sites and custom solutions keeping the 2010 UI. In this case, does the custom solutions remain in 14hive or can they be upgraded to 15hive/2013.

Thanks in advance.

SharePoint WebApplication publishing with NLB and 2 VIP's

Hi,

we have 2 APP servers and 2 WFE servers and 1 Cluster DB server.

in WFE1 and WFE2 I have installed the NLB and created the cluster with IP (10.0.2.1)

in the above cluster I have created two VIP's

VIP1:10.0.2.2--WFE1

vip2: 10.0.2.3---WFE

I have configured the 2 VIPS in 2WFE 's IIS bindings and configured the NLB and VIPS in AAM.

when I am trying to open the site in browser it is throwing " Sorry Something Went Wrong" File Not Found

I have created the Host Name under run->drivers->etc->Hosts

" 10.0.2.1   sp.com"

changed the iis bindings as ip:10.0.2.1 and given the host name sp.com in wfe's servers and in AAM:http://sp.com

the site is opening in internet and intranet in servers only but not in users desk.

how do I publish a sharepoint web application using NLB IP and 2 VIP's and it should be load balanced?

Please suggest.

Thanks And Regards

Request management service issue with SSL Sites

Hi guys,

I've configured up the request management service, but after start the service on our wfe servers (even before to configure specific web applications),  our ssl sites begin to fail and the event viewer start to alert several errors, by the other hand, sites over 80 port with no SSL works as expected.

I've aleready 'googled' it and I found some similiar scenarios without a happy ending. Below you can find some of the main errors in event viewer and ULS Logs. In this post  solved a very similar issue using ssl host headers with a unique ip but are using fqdn certificates so it is not an option for us.

I've already checked the good posts from Spencer Harbar and He says that is good idea to use host named site collection, but this is not an option for me becouse we need to use Self Service Creation and mixed authetnication, besides, None of the Technet literature that i've reviewed says nothing about don't support path based site collection.dfdsf

So far, the only way to avoid this errors is not using the service(discouraging finding), These are some errors we got on Event viewer and logs:

Machine 'MACHINENAME (AppPool(_LM_W3SVC_515444293_ROOT))' failed ping validation and has been unavailable since '3/28/2014 3:55:48 PM'.  (Just starting the service Event viewer begis to have a bunch of this errors)

Seems like it tries to find a site with the name of the machine name, not the host name registered (in the Alter access mappings (like portal.acme.com) .

I would appreciate some feedback about this. Another posts with similar issues:

Profile Property Dropped After Stopping/Starting UPSS

$

I have an AD attribute call 'profilealias' (as well as 14 more) mapped to a SharePoint profile property 'Name'.

ANYTIME the UPSS is stopped  and restarted, the SharePoint property 'Name' drops the mapping to 'profilealias' AD attribute (whether stopping/starting manually or after a full-farm backup... (which occurs nightly)).

However, NONE of my other custom or oob properties get dropped....

Process to reproduce:

  1. Add the mapping 'profilealias' > 'Name'
  2. Run a full sync
  3. Stop UPSS
  4. Start UPSS
  5. 'Name' Property no longer mapped to 'profilealias'

Any Ideas?
