Warm up SharePoint Web Application

$

Hello,

I was looking to see if there is anyway to warm up an Extended SharePoint Web Application (SAML Authentication - ADFS Integrated). I found many scripts on the web but all of them were using Windows Credentials.

Below are the details:

Actual Web Application - NTLM

Extended Web Application - SAML based ADFS Integrated

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks, SV

How to filter a choise/lookup field with multiple selections

$

Hello,

I would like to filter a lookup field but with multiple selections. For example, I want to show the categories "foreign sales" or "domestic sales". The ideal would be web parts above, and the list below. The user makes the selections and the list shows the filtered items.

I don't need cascading dropdown menus.

Is this possible and how?

I wonder if this can be done with url parameters.

Exception with regards to SharePoint Workflow Services

Hi there,

Since today we suddenly get the following exception on our development farm:

Method 'get_IsClientValid' in type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.WorkflowServiceApplicationProxy' from assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices, Version=15.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' does not have an implementation.

We get this exception when we:

- Open up a site

- Open up Manage Service Applications from Central Administration

We don't get the exception when I open up the starting page of Central Administration.

Unfortunately we don't know what we have done that has resulted into this exception.

What is the root cause and is this easy to fix?

Upgrade sharepoint for TFS 2012

$

Hello,

Our team is using Team foundation server 2012 with Sharepoint 2010 (that sharepoint version is installed together with tfs by default), TFS and Sharepoint are on one server, SQL server is separate. I would like to upgrade sharepoint from 2010 to 2013. I am not sharepoint expert and don't know how to proceed with the setup that we have. I have to keep current server setup and cannot create new servers.

Can anybody point me to the right direction and highlight steps that will accomplish this?

Thanks for help!

Upgrade and/or "migrate" SharePoint 2010 Standard to SharePoint 2013 Enterprise?

$

I have an existing SharePoint 2010 "Standard" install (in a production environment that works fine) that I'd like to migrate the content from to SharePoint 2013 "Enterprise".

Conceptually, I'm thinking I'll set up a brand new install of 2013 "Standard" and then (somehow?) be able to migrate all of my 2010 data, settings, etc. to 2013. Once I'm satisfied that it works correctly, I'll then upgrade the 2013 Standard to 2013 Enterprise.

Is this a viable plan? Does anyone know of any resources that might help with this conceptual upgrade path?

Comments? Suggestions?

Thank you,

Ed

Connection Issues with SharePoint And SQL

Hi,

I successfully installed and configured MS SQL 2012 for SharePoint Server 2013. I created a database using SQL Management Tools and added a login user SP_Admin with dbcreator, sysadmin and security admin rights. I logged in to the SharePoint Server to installed and configure SharePoint with the credentialSP_admin but when i run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard and it reaches the Specify Configuration Database Security Settings and after I enter the required info I keep getting the following error:

Cannot connect to database master at SQL server at sqlservername. The database might not exist, or the currentuser does not have permission to connect to it.

I tried deleting SP_admin from the SQL Login and added it back, retype the password in the service.msc for SQLSERVER and SQL SERVER AGENT, creaed an inbound rule for port 1433, I even restarted the SQL services but it's still giving me the above error.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Cannot found a way to update the OutboundCertificate (Thumbprint), Set-WFCertificate allows updating the SsslCertificate & EncryptionCertificate, not OutboundCertificate.

What to do?

401 after authentication

This appears to have been a problem in SharePoint 2010. Curious if it is possible to fix this issue .

Here is a fiddler trace prior to logging in.

Here is the fiddler trace after logging in.

Every subsequent page request called is throwing multiple 401s before the resource is successfully called. Is there a way to prevent this 401 behavior after a user has authenticated?

Sharepoint 2013 + ADFS

Hello all :)

My client currently has a SP2013 farm (3-tier) originally designed to authenticate clients via AD only. Everything is working in this respect, but they now wish to extend the user-base to allow clients to access the portal, teamsites and mysites from mobile devices. The main criteria they have is that clients shouldn't need to repeatedly log on, especially when browsing between web applications. Browser default settings must be used on mobile devices, so browsers like Safari are going to cause an issue here as the default settings don't retain cookies or credentials across sessions. Most clients will be using iPhones and iPads.

To that end, I'm considering offering them an ADFS 2.0 infrastructure to perform claims based authentication vs. AD - a pretty standard ADFS scenario. My question is not so much a how-to, more of an is-this-feasible, although a rough how-to outline would be appreciated -

- Three web applications (portal, teamsites, mysites) all already have external URLs and are accessible internally and externally on the same URL.

- The client wants to retain the same URLs for both internal and external clients, domain-joined and non domain-joined devices. HTTPS is already configured.

- Domain joined clients should still authenticate via AD (using default NTLM currently). Client devices in the Intranet Zone already have seamless logon, this should not change.

- External/non domain joined clients should be redirected to a logon page. One logon should grant them access to all three web applications seamlessly (single sign-on is the primary goal)

I would like to present such a solution to my client, however this isn't something I've ever set up. That said, I understand the concepts, but would like to be sure all of the above is possible before saying it is :)

Any help with this is appreciated :)

What is the best approach to follow to be able to deploy my (Team site & my Community site) site collections , from my development machine to my UAT environment.

I have SharePoint 2013 server + sql server 2008 r2 inside my development and UAT environments. Currently inside my development environment I did the following main tasks:-
  1. I have created a new sharePoint Application that sues NTL authentication, and which does not allow anonymous login (no login page).
  2. I have created a new Team site collection named “Intranet” under the default managed path for the new SP application. http://sharepointdev/sites/Intranet/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/
  3. I have created a new managed path named “discussionforum”.
  4. I have created a new Community site collection under the new managed path:- http://sharepointdev/discussionforum/GeneralDiscussion/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/
  1. Next step is that I added the following App parts to my team site home page:-
    1. Document library.
    2. Announcements.
    3. Prompted links.
    4. Content editor web part.
    5. 4 calendars that are overlayed.

I have finished my development, and now I need to transfer all my above work from my development machine to my UAT machine? So how I can do this?

2) Backup-SPSite and Restore-SPSite

3) Move-SPSite

4)Copy-SPSite

5) SPSite Import and Export

we have sharepoint 2013 and the workflows are working fine. then suddenly the worklow doesnt start,  We found out that the Wss_log datase occupied all of the 300GB disk allocated. We fix the issue by shrinking the database now its 20 GB the size, but still the workflow is not working its saying "Error occured"  when running the workflow. is this a cause of the wss_log or maybe another issue?

SQL 2012 PowerPivot Database Instance Missing

$

After installing PowerPivot on SQL Server 2012 SP1 I cannot find my instance of POWERPIVOT in SQL Mgmt. Studio.

Here is my situation described in steps:

  1. Installed SQL 2012 RTM (I didn't realize I needed the new service pack 1 for PowerPivot)
  2. Installed and configured SharePoint 2013
  3. Tried to install PowerPivot and failed
  4. Installed SQL 2012 SP1
  5. Installed PowerPivot for SQL 2012 SP1
  6. Installed SSRS for SQL 2012 SP1
  7. Re-ran the install for SQL 2012 to create new database instance for PowerPivot
  8. Un-checked the checkbox for creating a new SQL Database Engine (since I already had a db engine for SharePoint installed)
  9. Named my new instance "POWERPIVOT"
  10. Ran the PowerPivot Configuration Tool. Completed successfully.
  11. Turned on SQL Server PowerPivot Services, but I did not see a service named SQL Server Analysis Services
  12. Looked in the Farm Solutions Gallery to make sure the .wsp files were there. They were there.
  13. Opened SQL Mgmt. Studio and found that there was no PowerPivot database instance.
  14. I made a new connection to Analysis Services and although it connected and opened, there were no databases

What did I do wrong? How can I fix this? How do I get a named instance for PowerPivot in SQL Server 2012?

Thanks,

Alex
