Hello Everyone

I have default sharepoint 2013 on sharepoint server. Now i want to create one more public url which anyone can access from outside who have access to the sharepoint site.

Do i just need to map it using alternate access mapping? Or do i need to extend web application and create site and then map it?

Please advice

Thanks

SharePoint 2013 RSS Feed on Site Home Page Issue

$

I have a SharePoint 2013 installation that is a tenant collection only (no outward facing parts or external access) set up for publishing.  There are approximately 5 sites within the site collection, each of which has a few web parts (libraries, lists, folders, etc.) The social networking features are turned off.

RSS is enabled for the collection.  However, if the RSS is enabled for a site's home page, the RSS feed points at the "Site Pages" page, and not the site's home page.  Changes to the newsfeed on the site's home page, for example, do not show up in the RSS feed because it is pointed at the "Site Pages" page.  RSS feeds enabled for individual libraies, lists and calendars work as expected.

I suspect this is a configuration issue, although I thought it was working previously.  This is a fairly new deployment, so there hasn't been a lot of use yet.

Any ideas or suggestions as to where I might look?  I have been through every possible part of the site administration and site collection settings without success.

Script error on page load causes navigation to not load (sposuitenav.js)

We are rolling out SharePoint 2013 online (cloud). Unfortunately, we have users who are getting an error when ever they go to a sharepoint page in IE (version 8 is our current standard version).  I'm going to try and give as much info as possible, but here is the short description first:

Short description: Some users (both on XP and Win 7) with IE 8 (8.0.6001 on xp and 8.0.7601 on Win7) get an error that causes the suite navigation (Navigation elements like SkyDrive and Sites in the blue bar at the top) to not load.

Details:

Error (this one from an xp machine, but its similar on win7)

User Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 5.1; Trident/4.0; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.4506.2152; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E)
Timestamp: Wed, 5 Jun 2013 19:06:47 UTC

Developer tools debugging error:

Highlighted: b.ontimeout=g

Error: Object doesn't support this property or method sposuitenav.js?rev=9NrN%2FQjr08jHbbFVnfXv6A%3D%3D, line 1 character 1143

Work around:

For some reason, if you run the debugger, and then "Continue" after the error, the navigation will load fine with no errors on the page. It will continue to work fine until the user clears their cookies manually.

Most of our users do NOT get this error, but we only have a small pilot group so far and this is a show stopper since we need to roll out to 5000 users eventually.

Note: The following sites are in the trusted site zone for all users, those who are experiencing this and those who are not:
*.microsoftonline.com

*.sharepoint.com

*.sharepointonline.com

Migration to 2013 from 2010 mysite feed shows HTML

We are testing the upgrade to 2013 from 2010 and have completed the database upgrades in the new farm.  Everything works, however when you click on someone elses mysite the activity for that person displays as HTML.  i.e.

<a href=http://mysite.company.com:80/person.aspx?accountname=DOMAIN%5CUSERNAME title="JOHN DOE">John Doe</a> added 4 new colleagues.<br/><a href='http://mysite.company.com:80/Person.aspx?accountname=DOMAIN%5CJane Doe'>Jane Doe</a>, etc.

Anyone know how to fix this?

We are testing 2013 migration from 2010.  The profile photos are now larger in 2013 when you visit someones mysite.  The profile pictures are now blurry.  We import from AD and the size in AD is 96x96 (use code two AD to import)  How should we be loading the images so they are clean?  Especially if they are coming from the 2010 environment.

2013 Web part alignment issues after upgrade

After migrating from 2010 to 2013 a lot of our webparts are aligning justified bottom.  They look something like this.

Webpart

data             Webpart

data              data             Webpart

data              data             data

We are using a blank webpart page and they are all aligned top in 2010.  Ideas?

2013 Webpart Borders touching

upgrading from 2010 to 2013 and now the webparts on all pages touch each other.  We have the Title and Border set to show on our webparts to create a blocked look of a newspaper in 2010.  In 2013 the borders all touch with no spacing.  When you go into edit mode they show the borders, but once published they borders have a zero pixel separation.  is this a bug?

User policy "account operates as system" with claims based authentication

$

We converted our authtication to claims based in 2010 so that we could easily upgrade to 2013.  We have 4 admin accounts in each web application user policy that were setup as "Account Operates as System" so that when our admins made changes it showed up as a change by system account and not the admin account.  Now that we switched to claims authentication we cannot set this attribute.  ticking the box results in "something went wrong" in 2013 and in 2010 the orginal farm the admins could not admin anything until we removed this check box.  Is this by design with claims based authentication?  We really need this feature.  Thanks

Publish User Profile Service application btw Sharepoint 2013 and Sharepoint 2010 on different farms and domain

Hi,

There is a two ways domain trust and I want users to be able to query info. from both domain.

Users in both domains need to see at least info like, skills, e-mail, phone number and feeds.

Number of staff is 600 Sharepoint 2013 and 300 Sharepoint 2010.

Can I do this  if I publish my profile Service Applications  btw domain and Configure server-to-server authentication between publishing and consuming farms?

Should I be looking at importing profiles or even  consider  Active Directory Federation Services.

thanks

Using AD Security Groups

Hi

We've noticed an issue when using AD security groups to secure specific Sharepoint sites. Our problem arose when we created two AD security groups, say, SG-Main and SG-Sub with SG-Sub a Member of SG-Main. We then put a user account, eg Test1, into SG-Sub and secured a Sharepoint site to allow access to SG-Main. Test1 could then access the site - fine.

However when we then removed Test1 from SG-Sub we noticed that Test1's access persisted for the rest of the day. It was only when we tried again the following morning that finally Test1 was given an Access Denied message. Does anyone know what underpins this? Is there a way to force Sharepoint to refresh its 'knowledge' of the security group?

Thanks

How external users can access the SharePoint application in case the SharePoint is connected to our company active directory.

I have created a Publishing Web application and I have specified that SharePoint is connected to our company Active Directory. Now all our employees are able to login to the SharePoint publishing site within our intranet without any problems.
But two additional questions just rose in my mind which I cannot figure out:-

1. Let say an employee login to the SharePoint website from him home using his PC ? Will he be able and how he will be able to login to the SharePoint web application?
2. Regarding external customers. I was thinking that we can create new active directory account for each external customer. But this was refused by our system administrator.
So since the SharePoint is connected to AD, so how I can allow external customer (who are not inside our active directory) to login to our SharePoint Publishing site and see cerain pages inside it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Best Regards

I created a new mysite and can access Newsfeed and Sites but not SkyDrive. It is routing to the old URL. If I put the new url in for SkyDrive then it takes me there without any problems. I can't find anywhere in SharePoint that still has the name. I have looked everywhere, is there a certain area I'm missing to change the URL to what I want it?

Confusion of SharePoint 2013 Apps

$

Hi everyone,

I've spent much time reading many articles about the new SharePoint 2013 Apps model and know fundamentally the following options:

  • Provider-hosted
  • Auto-hosted
  • SharePoint-hosted

Using the provider-hosted option, my app is hosted on a separate server in my company or in a server hosted in somewhere. Using the auto-hosted option, app is hosted in the cloud and Windows Azure and SQL Server Azure components are provisioned automatically when an app is installed. In my case, I'm a bit confused and have two questions:

  1. I want to develop a SharePoint 2013 app but also need to utilize Azure service (e.g Azure Media service) so I'm wondering which of the above options I have to use.
  2. If a user installs my app to his company, does that require his SharePoint server always connect to the Internet to interact with Azure Media service, for example?

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Regards,
-T.s
