Distributed Cache is broken after domain/forest move

$

Hello everyone,

I have a couple of Single-Server-Deployment-Sharepoint-Farms that were moved from domain X to domain Y. The move itself was successful and for a while all seemed good.

We recently found out, that the Distributed Cache is broken. When you query the cache in the management console with Get-CacheHost, the status is "UNKNOWN". Unregistering this old "unknown" host does not work. Exporting and importing the configuration does not work, as I usually get a "object reference not set to an instance of an object"-error message. The App Fabric-service stops after a few seconds and remains stopped.

What I need is a way to keep the farm intact (= production systems) and "simply" (yeah, I know, nothing is simple) reset the distribution cache to "zero" so I can rebuilt it from scratch. Is there any way to do this?

Thanks & Regards,

Aaron

PS: As a wish to the Sharepoint development team - please add GUI-controls to this component. It is absolutely painful to do this in the powershell and just get "object reference not set to an instance of an object"-errors. This is too much a reminder of the bad old days before proper GUI's.

Having trouble getting distrubted cache working

A few days ago I had a user that was having trouble using Office Online Server to modify documents.  It was only this user that was having the issue.  I started digging and realized that the user profile syncronization wasn't running.  Through some error I found in either the event log or the ULS logs that seemed to point as distributed cache being the issue.  I'm not sure if this is the solution to the user profile service not running or not but there does appear to be something wrong with the distrubted cache

At this point I have ran so many powershell commands that I couldn't tell you what all I did.  Here are the results of my service queries.  Can anyone tell me next steps in diagnosing this?

Sp2019 custom search

I have created a site collection with publishing feature turned on (http://mySiteColl) on SharePoint 2019 on-premise. i have anonymous turned-on. All sites underneath inherit that.

Under that site collection I have site (http://mySiteColl/my_site)

I need to have custom search on that site that will search ONLY that site (my_site). Actually, I want for the results to be from my 3 custom lists on that site (List1, List2, list3).

I've created new page and added "Search Results Web part" on it.

On the site settings, I've created new search Source called "test1".

But, I do not get results that I want.

For example, i tried to write query in source "{?{searchTerms} Path:http://mySiteColl/my_site/Lists/List1}"

I get no results.

If I write following query: "{?{searchTerms} Path:http://mySiteColl/my_site"}"

I get only results from library "Publishing Images".

What do I need to do on "List1" so I can get the result from that list in my search??

I executed full crawl many times, this is not the problem...

SharePoint 2013 farm servers showing different .NET version

$

We have 5 servers in SP farm. CA server is showing .NET version as 4.6.1 whereas all other servers showing 4.5.1. We received a security threat as " .NET Framework 4, 4.5 and 4.5.1 without any service packs were detected on the target host. Microsoft ended support for .NET Framework 4, 4.5 and 4.5.1 on January 12, 2016 and provides no further support for this specific version"

My question is, can we update the .NET version of other servers to 4.6.1 without affecting the SP sites and applications? If yes, how to do this?

2013 Cumulative Updates, do them all or just the latest one? Workflow/AppFabric/Project Server updates?

$

I'm now working in a company where they haven't done any CU's on their SharePoint farm (which is primarily a Project Server farm) in over two years.  My assumption is that CU's contain all the updates from previous CU's.

Before I move forward with that assumption, because I'm still not able to find any definitive statement (other than the implied name) that a cumulative update contains all previous updates.  Are you able to simply install the latest CU after you have applied the last service pack?  Does this apply equally to all the different products (Project Server, Workflow, AppFabric, SharePoint)?

Lastly, has anyone encountered or seen issues updating the AppFabric or Workflow processes ahead of a similarly timed SharePoint/Project server?

Thanks in advance!

Do we need to have Microsoft Office installed on SPS 2013 WFE servers? or on any server of the Farm?

Been asked if  we need to have Microsoft Office installed on SPS 2013 WFE servers? or on any server of the Farm?

I do not seem to recall if we need to have them installed on Production servers?

What about development servers?

I am loading a new SharePoint 2013 server in an attempt to fix decommision our current sharepoint box that is screwed up.  I set up SharePoint then went and updated to SP2.  Now i'm getting an error that the Database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended.  I tried a few options I found online but they arn't working as expected.  I can't imagine this is a big deal since Sharepoint should be upgraded regularly.  What am I missing?  Here is the command I have tried and the resulting error.  Can someone tell me how to update these 4 DBs.

The best method to copy content on to a new server in a new farm?

$

I currently have a SharePoint 2013 box that has some issues.  Mainly the distributed cache service, indexing, and a few other things that appear to be specific to the box.  I have loaded a brand new SharePoint 2013 box and patched it to the same version as the original.  The new one has all the services working with a new site.  Nothing else has been done to the new box past getting it working with a team site running.

Question is, what is the best method for me to get the site content from the old one to the new one.  I would imagine that security and everything that the site depends on to work needs to be copied over too.  I have tried restoring the content database via SQL and Central admin and neither worked as expected.  Does anyone have a sure fire method for reproducing a SharePoint site on a new server farm so that it looks and works identically as the original.

What about adding this new one to the existing farm then removing the server with all the issues, leaving just the new server in the farm?  Is this a better way to go then trying to restore the content?

Sharepoint 2013 filling hard drive

$

Greetings,

I inherited a Sharepoint 2013 server couple of years ago.  Lately it has started losing its index and on occasion hard drive has filled up.  Most of the time I've been able to beat it into submission and gotten it to work again.

Today though, I can not for the life of me get it to do a crawl w.out filling hard drive.   Server has about 11gb free which is not a lot but has been enough (working on migrating to sharepoint.com).   Anyway, if start a crawl the server eats the space up in few minutes.   If I restart the SharePoint Server Search 15 service it frees up the space it's eating up but the crawl stops working.  I did a test and I temporarily freed up 35gb of space and it still ate all of that up while crawling (took about 10 min to eat that up).

Any thoughts on how I might be able to gain control over the server again?

Thanks,

Jakob Ragnarsson

Error 403 when accessing workflow manager page after install

Hey,

I'm in the process of setting up a new workflow manager farm for my SP2013 environment.

At the moment I'm setting up the stage WFM farm which consists of only one dedicated server (meaning not running on a SP server). My live WFM farm will be made of 3 servers.

I've followed Harbar's guide located here: http://www.harbar.net/articles/wfm2.aspx, and all was successfull until I tried to access the workflow page onhttps://myserver.domain.com:12290 and got a 403.

I've checked that the Workflow Manager Backend, Windows Fabric Host Service, Service Bus Gateway and Service Bus Broker services are running.

Get-WFFarmStatus is also showing me everything running. In IIS, app pool and site are started.

I've tried ti access https://myserver.domain.com:12290 from the WFM machine, from a SP server and from my own laptop, same issue, I always get a 403.

Would you know how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day

How to clear SharePoint IE Cache

Hey SharePoint Fam,

I made a script change to a SharePoint list friday morning (3 days ago) but I am noticing the change has still not been updated on user machines.  Is there anything I can do from the web server or database server, I thought maybe bouncing those servers would refresh everything or just waiting 2-3 days.  Is this out of my hands where I need to work with network team to push a gpo somehow to refresh user IE settings/cache?  We have over 7k machines on the network.  I refreshed my local machine IE history/cache and the new script started working correctly right after deleting history.

Thanks N Advance for any help

OOS documents don't work on a new farm after mounting a content database from a different farm

$

Our original Sharepoint server had some machine specific problems but worked for the most part.  The user profile service was broken and it was causing issues for certain users when using office online server docs.  My solution was to create a new server, in a new farm, get everything working there then restore and mount the original content database.

Mounting the new DB worked like a champ.  All my sites and pages where there and everything seemed to work.  When I tried to open an Word or Excel file via OOS I got errors.  Word and Excel both threw errors but they were different errors.

Word: Sorry there was a problem we can't open this document. if this happens again, try opening the document in Microsoft word

Excel: We couldn't find the file you wanted.  Its possible the file was renamed, moved or deleted.

The issue is with the sharepoint server, not with teh OOS server becasue the old sharepoint server loads documents fine using the same OOS server.  I checked the ULS logs and found that a WOPI reference that had the URL of the old sharepoint server.

Is there something WOPI related that could come across with a content database?  I don't know how this new server would have any idea who the old server is since its a new farm.

SQL Server Reporting Services Service how to move to another server on the same farm

Hello all,

environment :

SharePoint 2013 sp1 farm with a WFE server and a different APP server based on 2008r2 OS. Let's call those servers WFE1 and APP1

I added two extra servers to the farm based on 2012r2 without issues. Let's call those APP2 and WFE2.

I want to get rid of APP1 and keep only APP2.

The problem is that in the list of "services on server" of APP2, I do not see the following service :

SQL Server Reporting Services Service

I need to migrate this service, but the only document I found was :

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/reporting-services/tools/sample-reporting-services-rs-exe-script-to-copy-content-between-report-servers?view=sql-server-2016

But it does not help.

Any idea ?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi,

I have a platform that receives some XMLs from Biztalk, most of them are received without problems but some we get this error:

[System.Net.WebException] The remote name could not be resolved: 'XXXXXXXXX.com'

This error was triggered by the Windows SharePoint Services receive location or send port with URI wsss://XXXXXXX.com:443/Lists/OppReceiver.

Windows SharePoint Services adapter event ID: 12310

We had this issue one but was for all the files sent and it was resolved, now it happens only some times and so far i was not able to find any solution, does anyone have any idea?

Best regards.
