Why Sharing-Functionality in List Items seems to be completely useless

Hello everyone,

I've just found the new feature for sharing files with others. In SP15 you can click on a list item and share it with others by clicking the Ellipsis and then on Share. The new dialog shows two options for permissions (can read and can write). However, this is useless. Reason: I think the idea was it to make this stuff more simple for most users. Before SP15 I implemented such feature myself. I used a column for this. Then I added an Event Receiver that handles everything when an Item has been added. The new feature in SP15 is missing this Event Receiver. The Event Receiver was there to break the role inheritance, remove all permissions and then add the permissions as I wished. This new feature only removes the role inheritance after the first time I use it. Before that point the item gets its permissions from the list via inheritance. So let get the following fact which hasn't changed in this new version of SharePoint: Any new item (uploaded or created) will inherit its permission from the list. This way already anyone who can access the list can also open and change the file. So what is the new share dialog for when already everyone on this list can see it? Adding additional users is completely senseless as they can't acces the list to open that item. Removing permissions is not even possible in this dialog. I really don't get this...

Thanks!!
Regards
Christian
