Search Service upgrade: could I potentially lose all my content?

In the TechNet library entryCopy databases to the new farm for upgrade to SharePoint 2013,” (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839720(v=office.15).aspx) in regards to the upgrading of search service applications from SharePoint 2010 to 2013, it states:

“Before you can back up the Search service application Administration database, you must stop the Search service on your SharePoint Server 2010 farm. To stop the Search service, on the original farm, on the Start menu, click Administrative Tools, and then click Services. Right-click SharePoint Server Search 14, and then click Stop. Be sure to start the service again after you back up the database.”

Now as far asSharePoint Server Search under Manage Services on Serverin CA, I know that turning off the SharePoint Server Search service would update the configuration database, while removing all entries related to that search server. All relevant search content, such as the index, would be deleted, and the associated Windows Server service (under Administrative Tools, and then Services) would be stopped.

So here’s my question: I want to get a copy of my production Search service application Administration database (on SharePoint 2010) backed up, to upgrade to my development instance of SharePoint 2013. By following the step from the ““Copy databases to the new farm…” article, couldn’t I potentially lose all my search content in the same fashion as if I turned off the SharePoint Server Search under Manage Serviceson Server in Central Admin? Any help or explanation in this manner would be greatly appreciated—thanks in advance, to one and all who may reply to this.
