Restore farm backup to test server without disturbing production.

I've set up my single-server farm (Server 2012, SP 2013, SQL 2012) to run nightly farm backups, then copy them to a remote location.  I'd like to set up a test environment using one of these backups on a different VM.   Since the machine name will be different (i.e., test-sp.domain.org vs. sp.domain.org), is there any concern that a farm restore would not work?  Also, since the backup may have references to the production environment (e.g., database server names), is there any concern that a restore to a test box could interfere with production?  Is there any way to avoid these pitfalls, if they exist?
