I'm attempting to install SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a Windows 2012 server. SQL back end is on a separate server running SQL 2012 Enterprise w/ SP1. I downloaded the SPF2013 installer EXE about 3 days ago from the MS site.
My setup user is a domain account that is local admin on the SharePoint server and has SysAdmin in the SQL server instance.
I get the prerequisites installed, install the binaries and then start the configuration wizard (psconfigui.exe), provide all input and then start the configuration. The configuration gets to Step 3 and spends some time there, then fails with the following:
Failed to create the configuration database.
An exception of type System.data.SqlClient.SqlException was thrown. Additional exception information:
Sting or binary data would be truncated.
The statement has been terminated.
The PSCDiagnostics log file linked on the wizard results screen contains:

Examination of the databases following the error shows that the farm CONFIG database has been created and contains all tables. The ADMIN CONTENT database also exists, but contains no tables.
We tried running a SQL Trace but did not catch any obvious errors.
I've gotten the same results on two different servers, and two different database instances.
Does anyone have any ideas on what's going on here and what I need to do to correct it?
