We're considering restructuring our web application to have a single site collection but are concerned about size. In the technet artcile on "Software boundaries and limits for SharePoint 2013" MS suggests "refactoring" for scaling out across multiple content databases. What exactly is meant by "refactoring"? Does this simply mean moving sites from content database A to content database B? Or does this refer to a new capability to span a single site collection across multiple databases?
From the technet article:
"Refactoring of site collections allows for scale out of a SharePoint Server 2013 implementation across multiple content databases. This permits SharePoint Server 2013 implementations to scale indefinitely"
