Host named site collection issue?

Hi All,

Following all the steps in TechNet article Host-named site collection architecture and deployment (SharePoint 2013), I created a host named site collection. But the site is not accessible using the host header (http://portal.contoso.com). It gives the page can not be displayed error.

After creating the DNS entry, the site asks for credentials again and again but does not open the site.

Please guide me on this issue.
