I was handed over the reigns of SharePoint Administration at my workplace recently so I am very new and have lots to learn. We only have one SharePoint 2010 Enterprise environment up and it is a production so unfortunately if and when I want to test something out, I am very reluctant to do so in the event the changes causes unforeseen issues.
One of the things I noticed is not working and has never worked is the Search function that I believe is OOTB that should allow a user to search libraries, lists, etc. When the user types a word(s) in the search, there are never any results. I have tried this with a Site Collection Admin account and a test account with no results.
After some research, I checked to see if there was any kind of Crawl being run on the server and there hasnt ever been. Here is where having a test environment might come in handy because I am not sure if I should run a crawl because 1) I do not know if this would solve the problem and 2) I do not how resource intensive it would be
Can you please provide some assistance?
