Error "An indexer is not assigned to the Shared Services Provider" when doing MOSS backup

Hi, can anyone please help...

 I was trying to do a backup IN MOSS 2007 an i got the error; An indexer is not assigned to the Shared Services Provider 'SharedServices1'. After reasearching this on the net i found out that i needed to edit my sharedservices in the CA in Central Administration > Application Management > Manage this Farm's Shared Services  but when i click edit on the default SharedServices it gives me another error; An unhandled exception occurred in the user interface. Exception Information: The site with the id 35d4993e-90ed-4d00-833c-747fde9065e4 could not be found.

 Any help would be much appreciated.
