I'm building a 2013 environment that has several servers, 2WFE's, 2 APP Servers, 4 Search Servers and a couple Office Web App servers.
My only upgrade experience for a CU or Service Pack in SharePoint has been on a single box 2010 farm, in which i simply applied the patch, worked out any issues with features and then ran a "psconfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force" in place of running the configuration GUI after the patch was applied.
SO with the new farm having so many more servers i'm concerned that the process needs to be executed a specific way, I found an article that goes through the steps and for the most part i can make sense of what needs to be done and why...

One of the main questions i had was should i run the configuration GUI as they state i should in the guide above or can i continue to run the psconfig, i know that the two are essentially the same and have heard that if it can be avoided don't use the GUI configuration wizard. Any thoughts?
Also i've been looking for some resources out there are are along the same lines as the guide above but written by people in the field in a blog of sorts...any good resources out there on proper patching for a farm size like i am building?
