Porting subsites as part of site template

Hi,

I am trying to deploy a site which contains several sub sites to a production machine. I have tried creating the site as template and uploading that file, but this does not include the sub sites. Can someone tell me how I can have my sub sites and content included?

I am using sharepoint 2013. Please note that the site is being deployed to a server on a different domain.
