Appstore SSL Configuration

We have an Extranet (https) and an Intranet (http) both of which are using the same App Store. 

Any advice as to whether we can use the same App Store or would we need one for each?

Does the AppStore have to be SSL?

We originally configured the AppStore to use HTTP but we are having cert mismatch issues either both SSL and HTTP.
