Programs and Features Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 Repair

Hi,

I have a customer who was experiencing a problem with search and had the following:

The Search service displays
Administrative status – Paused for: External Request
Crawler Background activity – Backup/Restore

The single content source displays:
Status – Paused by system

In an attempt to fix this, the customer opened Programs and Features, selected "Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013", clicked "Change", selected "Repair" and then OK (or next). Although it appears to have solved their problem ...

My questions are ... Is this a good thing to do?? What .exe would be run and what effect would it have.
