SharePoint 2010 to 2013

Hi,

this is my first post here. I'm planning the upgrade of Sharepoint 2010 to 2013. I know I will use the database-attach method. In my scenario, we also have to change the whole security, design and clean up unused sites. The clean up process will takes weeks (maybe months) so I have to do a granular upgrade. We have 70 sites.

At the end, the new farm will have the same URL. I wondering if I should do a copy of production farm, do the clean up site by site and copy the database to the new farm 2013. If I do that I know I will have to redirect the site done to the new farm URL. The DNS host entry can only have one IP so I have to configure an alternate access mapping. I have issue now to load site collection with alternate access mapping. I mean it works for the top site page but not for other site collection.

I didn't find information about people doing the same. Is it a nice plan? Any suggestion or better plan?
