"the supplied credential is invalid" error when creation Active Directory Import synchronization connection

Hello,

We're trying to setup an Active Directory Import connection on a new SharePoint Server 2013 (standard edition) farm. AD DS is running on the standard port 389 and we're able to use the people picker etc.

We supply a FQDN, like contoso.com and the account name (with a netbios prefix), like cts\sp_usersync. Type = Active Directory Import, Authentication Provider Type = Windows Authentication.

The user has replication directory changes on the domain and on CN=configuration.

When we try to populate the containers (to select the OUs containing the user accounts to import), we get the following error message:

"The Supplied Credential is Invalid".

We're sure that the credentials are valid; when we use a wrong password, it locks the account after the fifth try. When we use the correct password, it keeps giving us the same error message, but it doesn't lock the account.

When we check the "Use SSL-secured connection", it says "The LDAP Server is unavailable". When we change the port to 636, it gives us the "The Supplied Credential is Invalid" error message again.

Does anyone know a solution?
