Visio Services and Access to Site Databases

I set up Visio Services on SharePoint 2013 and at first I noted that the service didn't work. In looking around at forums I have seen two sets of guidance regarding granting Visio Services access to content within the SharePoint environment:

  1. The most common suggestion I have seen is to add the Visio account to the permissions for the databases Visio services is going to need to service. When I did this the Visio services started working and we are running this way now.
  2. Secure Store Authentication appears to be a new service that allows additional credentials to be granted access to the databases.

Is granting the Visio services managed account access to the content databases an acceptable solution, or is it really worth the extra effort to set up the Secure Store Authentication service?
