SharePoint 2013 Folder modified date does not change

We have our SharePoint server set up as a Document Library and in a folder hierarchy setup, when some one modifies/adds a document underneath the parent folder the modified date of the parent folder does not change.  

Is there a way to make the parent folder's modified date change when anything below that folder is updated?
