We would like to deploy SharePoint 2013 right away on Server 2008 R2 sp1 to a small 2 server farm. Existing SQL 2008 R2 Cluster will not be upgraded. We plan to upgrade SP servers to Server 2012 in a few months after virtualization updates that support Server 2012. Is option 1 recommended/supported? It will minimize downtown and re-work.
Option 1 - Install Server2012 and SharePoint 2013 and join server to the farm. Move services to Server 2012 servers. I understand that its recommended to only run individual services on one Server OS version.
Option 2 - Uninstall SP and reinstall it after the upgrade. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2818510
- Make sure that the intended operating system is supported by the version of SharePoint that you are running.
- Detach the content databases from the SharePoint server.
- Uninstall SharePoint through Control Panel.
- Upgrade the operating system.
- Reinstall SharePoint.
- Attach the content databases.
Option 3 - Build new Server 2012 VM's, Install and configure SP2013 and mount WSS_Content DB's.
Thank you!
Matt
