Access is denied Common Credentials Sharepoint 2013 Online

Hello All,

We are planning to migrate to SP 2013.

We have purchased a limited version of the Microsoft Office 365 Online Preview.

The user profiles are not connected to the Active Directory, so then I created 2 normal users

I went to the Search -> Manage Result Sources -> New Result Source and filled the below fields

General information

Name: TestResultSource

Description: <null>

Protocol

Local SharePoint (Selected)

Type

SharePoint Search Results (Selected)

Query Transform

{searchTerms} (Default)

Credentials Information

Default Authentication

Common: Basic Authentication - Specify a user name and password

Here when I select Basic Authentication and input the username and password created for a normal user and click OK, I get an Access Denied Warning at the start of the page. But when the Default Authentication is selected, its works fine.

Can you please let me know the difference between Default and Basic Authentication and the uses of each?

We use SharePoint 2007 and plan to migrate to SP 2013.

Also, is it possible in SP 2013 for the user to only view the blocked document in the search results but cannot click on it without the necessary of coding

Thanks

Leroy M
